Casual lunch to impress...but not overpriced.
I just recently went for lunch at A Table, a newish restaurant by the owner of Madre and Raza. It's located on Fleury street, near St-Urbain. I had a most memorable lunch of Brocoli soup (so amazing!) and chorizo risotto that was excellent for a mere 15$ plus tax. Other options that day were duck breast and salmon and all 3 were delicious according to my fellow "lunchers" There are also no stairs and parking on the street is quite easy at lunch time.
Pig Roasting Service- Montreal- West Island
I have never done business with this guy, but maybe you could contact him http://www.vanillatwist.com/ He offers BBQ services and such.
Ideas for group of 6-8 for a round or square table
Bitoque does have a round table - you should ask for it when making a reservation.
Best place to catch the game tomorrow? Good crowd, good food, decent prices!
I was at Lobbybar last week and the ambiance is great. But make sure you get a reservation because the place was packed. The food they serve is ok - they have pizzas and wings and a few other things. This place is on Papineau corner Mont-Royal.
Happening Gourmand 2010
Went to Mechant Boeuf last Saturday with some friends. Apart from the freaky-deaky DJ holding up signs for all to see (with saying such as Darth Vader orders our take-out from the Death Star), we had a good evening. We were there for the 9:30 seating. I had goat cheese and beets with a side salad or arugula, the steak d'onglet cooked to my liking that came with fries AND vegetables that weren't overcooked and the chocolate mousse dessert. Coffee was vile though. I would say for 22$ it was a good deal and with wine we ended up paying less than 70$ for 2 ppl (we shared a bottle with the other couple).
The crowd is 25-35 and it is very loud in there, but that was expected. Overall I would recommend it at that price!
ISO: Bakeries that deliver cakes in Mtl.
You can have only one cake delivered from Delices de Dawn - we get one at the office every once in a while. However, I think they arrive frozen, so you can't dig in right away!
Old Montreal Restaurant-recommendations? Near Centaur Theatre
How about the Pointe-a-Callieres restaurant? It is not big, so you should make a reservation, but the last time I was there food and service were very good.
Devilishly Delicious Desserts?
I've had dinner at la Cantine on Mont-Royal street a couple of weeks ago and their dessert menu was very interesting. I had the poudding chomeur with fleur de sel caramel and it was to die for. Another menu option was the homemade whippet. I don't remember the other choices, but I am sure you could go there just for dessert and a coffee (although word of warning - their breakfast coffee is amazing but their night coffee was just so-so!)
Looking for Twists on Traditional Quebecois Dishes
I LOVED their poudding chomeur. It was almost floating in that delicious, sweet, heavy-ish cream... Their mac&cheese (more american than Quebecois really) was quite tasty and the appetizer portion was very filling. The added bacon really gace it a great taste.
Looking for Twists on Traditional Quebecois Dishes
You are right it is a thinner, sweeter sauce but I actually thought it was very tasty, but not traditional. Also, it does make the fries soggier thank usual.
Looking for Twists on Traditional Quebecois Dishes
L'Atelier on St-Laurent had a twist on poutine (with shredded rabbit meat and ile aux grues cheddar cheese) and a twist on pate chinois with game meat.
Brunch at L'Arrivage - Pointe-a-Callieres
Last Saturday my friend and I had brunch at the restaurant of Musee Pointe-a-Callieres in Old Montreal. It is more of a lunch place, but they do offer 3 breakfast options in their table d’hôte and a few a la carte options, like French toast and croissants. We showed up at the opening (11:30 AM) and were seated inside. After insisting it was warm enough outside, we were able to be seated outside (tables for 2 only) On to the food…
I had the omelet with portobello mushrooms, spinach and sir laurier cheese. It came with a side of mashed potatoes and a puree of (I think) lentils and eggplant. It was very tasty, cooked perfectly and seasoned well.
My friend had the quiche with saucisson and leeks with a side of a very tasty salad. The appetizer was a salad (double salad for him) or a soup but it was clam-based and not to my taste. Dessert was a plate of 3 mini desserts – coconut and banana sorbet, pannacotta with pear syrup and almond cake. Delicious coffee was also included. Both our table d’hôte were $13.50 so I think it is a great value.
We were not rushed out and our waiter, though cold at first, was very pleasant. I noticed on the menu their full breakfast plate with poached eggs, bacon, toast, etc. but haven’t tried it.
I would go back for sure, the place is nice, the food is good and the price is fair.
looking for a resto in the old port...bday dinner
For your price range in Old Montreal, there isn't much. I like steak frites st-paul, mostly because it is BYOW so that cuts down the cost by a lot.
Resto/bar/lounge for 30 professional students?
Yes last time I was there they had a group of about 25 and there was still room for the other patrons.
Resto/bar/lounge for 30 professional students?
You could head to Bond for food AND drinks. It's on Fairmount, west of St-Laurent. The place is nice and the food is good. You can either share tapas style or have a complete meal.
Send me to a modest, low-key Italian restaurant
I do second Il Trullo. The ambiance is "meh" but the food is good and tastes homemade.
Restaurant Openings - 2009
Peeked inside a tiny place on Notre-Dame Street in St-Henri. (1 street east of George-Etienne Cartier park) Menus on the table were written LeBoucanier on them so I am thinking it's going to be creole food? Looks very close to opening, all tables were set, and seats were cute logs.
West Island Best Kept Secrets
I second Dolce Vita for ice cream. Bad surroundings (mall parking!) but great flavours!
Santos? L'Original?
Bond on Fairmount for a nice decor and tasty drinks. I haven't eaten there (only dessert) but I have heard good things. It's a plus if they are showing Casino Royale that night - Daniel Craig in a bathing suit makes all meals appetizing!
L'Atelier on St-Laurent for tasty "terroir" food and big plus, it's BYO. Loud atmosphere, lots of small groups.
Nuevo for tapas on Mont-Royal street. I've had girls' night there and they serve good tapas style food and good cocktail. You can stay longer and have drinks after or walk around Mont-Royal st.
West Island Farmer's Market
Maybe a bit too West of what you're looking for, but I was just reading about the Rigaud's farmer market held in the village every Friday night from 4:00PM to 9:00PM. IIRC, the products sold all come from producers in the area.
Which is the best CSA?
I like this idea. I actually came here this afternoon to know what other ppl got in their basket this week, and maybe help identify some of the veggies I got (my boyfriend picked it up and did not ask for info) and uses for them. Maybe we could start a thread about it, since it is quite local?
The Friday Night Dinner Group went for Tapas
Wow your review sounds delicious! Is that the place right next door to Tribe Hyperclub? I always thought that place was for the club-goers?
What's New and Good in BYOW places?
I was at l'Atelier this past Friday and the prices on the menu did not include tip and taxes?! It really is BYOW though, and I really enjoyed my meal.
Any BYOB Restaurant in Old Mtl or near Crescent St.?
L'Academie on Crescent fits the bill - I haven't been to that specific location. L'Academie gets a lot of hate on this board though, but I have taken out-of-towners non-foodie there and they liked it. (price is ok, and BYO!)
You could also hit Steak Frites St-Paul in Old Mtl, also BYOB. It's about $20 for a salad, steak and fries. They have other choices too (salmon for sure).
Dinner after Cirque - somewhat reasonable?
I have enjoyed dinner at Steak Frites St-Paul (on St-Paul street), but you need reservations. It is quite popular, and BYOW. Also not as pricey as L'Epicier or Graziella.
Visit to Atwater Market
I like to spend some time at Fromagerie du Marche - I've always had knowledgeable staff recommend very good cheese and charcuterie.
Also, you shouldn't miss the Warshaw store across the street for all you kitchen utensils and more needs. I love to browse in that store, and sometimes find very unusual but useful things.
casual engagement party?
There is a new place corner Fairmount one street west of St-Laurent called Bond. I have been once and it's very nice. Can't vouch for the food, as we only had a chocolate mousse dessert, but my drink was very good. The theme of the place is James Bond, but it is not in a tacky sort of way. They play the movies without sound and the cocktails are all named after Bond characters. The decor is very nice, sort of retro with a modern touch.
Only downside is you can't order alcohol without food...
After dinner drinks on a Sunday near Au Pied de Cochon?
I second Lab for drinks - I have been 3 times now and can say that my drinks were consistently good. The service is great, make sure you sit at the bar and challenge Sam, the barman to a game of Jenga!
takeout (salad?) on sunday - plateau to train station
Was there last Sunday and nothing except Tim Hortons seemed to be open.
