Soul food restaurant in Passaic County?

Yeah, that Soul Roll looks really like really authentic soul food.

Restaurants you love that are rarely mentioned on Chowhound

I guess we just read different threads...being a Murray Hill resident and therefore reading related threads, its seems like this board is inundated with people touting Lamazou...

Shenanigans? That restaurant with all the goofy stuff on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?

Beef on Weck in Manhattan?

Truthfully, I'm not an aficionado and I haven't been to McFaddens this season, but I thought the one at McFaddens was a pretty good version. I've certainly had better at some of the places in western NY (especially the weck), but have also had worse versions in our gray city to the north.

Its good, but I'd be interested if there are other places in the city that serve it. The crowds on game day can be pretty bad, so it would make stopping by just for a sandwich annoying. Then again, the Bills will likely be out of playoff contention in a week or so and maybe the crowds will thin out.

Beef on Weck in Manhattan?

On Sundays during football season, McFaddens does beef on weck (charlie the butcher actually came to one of the games there), anchor bar wings, and labatt drink specials. It gets somewhat crowded for bills games, as you would imagine.

Is BBQ in NYC hopeless? How is BLUE SMOKE?

Rents are a problem, but I think the mystique surrounding bbq is just as big a problem. If a place like RUB was located in a shack or in the back of some dive pool hall out of town, I think people would be more into it. I lived in TN for many years, and the above average places in those parts are on par or worse than the better places here (the truly great places down south, are, well, truly great and better than we have here). I know I would rather eat a cue sandwich in a screened in porch with a cold beer on a sunny, hot day than hop a subway and go into a place gussied up to look like a joint.

seeking: Freshest, firmest, highest quality oysters

Same here - I'll be by there this weekend, I'll see if they have them, ask if they are a regular item nowadays, etc....

A bunch of markets have some great Belons...any interest in those?

Bachelor Party Restaurant Recos?

Take two. Churrascaria could be a great idea, but after over eating (which tends to happen at such establishments), your party might come to screeching halt because of food comas....

Foodie Food + Watch Baseball?

Very good call on RUB...I've caught a few whole games there with an early inning feeding and late inning one as well. Not sure if its "foodie food," but a few of the top burger places will have a game on, such as Melon's and Molly's (the latter of which has a great burger but also very good pub food). One thing to note with all of the above though is that they will have the game on but likely will not have the sound on (especially for non-playoff type games...for those, the sound might be on). Not as big a deal for baseball as other sports, but somthing to consider. Can't think of a great place with the sound on and excellent food.

Need new Murray Hill/Kips Bay takeout recs

Lemongrass is brutal. There is a dearth of good thai in Manhattan...actually shockingly so. In the 'hood, I think Joey's is better thai...definitely deliver, but they take their time usually...

Your Fresh Direct picks?

The fruits I've ordered from there seem like they have participated in a fight club before getting to my door.

I do enjoy the thin crust pizzas and not having to carry beer from the market...

Pizza Delivery on the UWS

True, so its pretty useless except for weekends...I believe they deliver until 5 pm, so it works for a pizza fix during football...

Vodka gimlet sounds good...thanks for the heads up. I'll be there this weekend and that would likely be one of my first drinks.

Must haves at Tao?

Must have reservations somewhere else. It is similar to Buddakan - which is why I think an intimate dinner for two is not a good idea. Those places are better for groups.

murray hill greenmarket

It is on 2nd and 33rd. Not too much going on there frankly. The fruits and veggies looked okay, nothing great (I didn't buy anything). Two weekends ago they had a bakery and their muffins were pretty good...didn't see them this weekend. There was a dairy there this weekend...nothing looked better than you can get in the 'hood though.
