grass fed beef sources other than Whole Foods?

We've ordered from here twice:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Stevens...

I know the owner from my ski club. Meat comes shipped to your, frozen in a cooler on dry ice. Wish I had a bigger freezer, I would get more! His prices are cheap enough to offset shipping.

Cheers.

Bauer's Mission Chinese Rave????

I am so glad this was not just me! Lol... we ordered a huge, expensive meal from here and most of it went in the garbage can. Yuck, did not like at all...

Food similar to the Halal Guys on 53rd and 6th in Manhattan.

Tropisueno--Happy Hour and Fish Tacos

Thanks for the write ups, we're going to try this place Saturday night! I've been on a hunt for the best fish tacos in SF.

Will let you know what we think.
Cheers

So do they just not have good buffalo mozz and super sharp cheddar in SF? :(

Hello hounds,

Recently moved to Cole Valley from NYC and am missing my ambles around the neighborhood to pick up these two dietary staples. Both cheese shops in my neighborhood do NOT CARRY buffalo mozz, which makes me extremely crestfallen.

Perhaps being in NY, we had better access to Vermont & upstate sharp cheddars.

Can anyone please recommend somewhere to get super fresh buffalo mozz and excellent cheddars? I will be greatly indebted.

Kind Regards,
corgi lover

Throwing a "Best of New York" themed party- what to serve?

Not much of a cook myself, but a pretty good "gatherer" and appreciator :)

So, if you were going to throw a party and serve all food from the category "Best of New York" what would you put on the menu?

I'm thinking:

-gus' pickles
- burgers/meats from Ottamaneli Brothers
- Ess a bagels
- zabars spreads
- amy's breads
- murray's cheeses
- cupcakes from Sugar Sweet sunshine
- il labratorio del gelato
- brooklyn brewing company brews

Any other ideas? This is for a BBQ party, but I don't mind the food being zany :)

Thank you!

Food Pairing: What goes with building robots? (UWS)

Heehee :) So I am taking my n3rdl0ve to a geekery date to build robots on the upper west side.

I need some help with creative ideas about what kind of food would go with this activity?

Something... futuristic perhaps? fusion? high tech gatronomy?

any ideas?

The robot village is on W81st at broadway, although obviously willing to travel to stay in "theme" :) And yes I know Mars 2112 would go with the theme, although .... shudder... just soooo touristy and BLEGH that involves stepping foot in times square, screw that!

thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Late night in Ludlow... pub food?

All great options... thank you everyone! :) Very excited for the trip!

Late night in Ludlow... pub food?

NYC hound here, heading up to Ludlow for a fall weekend of mountain biking and sacrificing to Ullr, God of Snow (burning skis and cooking lots of bacon over a fire).

Will be staying in Ludlow and arriving late Friday evening.

Any good pubs you can recommend that are cute, maybe have a fire, where we can share a pint and throw back some burgers or something along those lines?

A search yielded a recommendation DJ's on the board but wanted to see if there were any other suggestions.

We are staying at Governor's Inn, fyi.

Many thanks, :)
Corgi

Distinctly New York eateries?

Marie, would you say Joe Allen is like McHales? Sounds like the same atmosphere, kinda... How does the burger compare? I miss McHales sooo much!

For your "last" night in NYC: Where would you go to get all decked out? (Black Tie)

Perfect perfect suggestions everyone, thank you so much! Bemelman's sounds great... now just debating about dinner.

For your "last" night in NYC: Where would you go to get all decked out? (Black Tie)

Hmm... I'd say any part of town, and open to any cuisine, we are both very adventurous eaters.

And to be honest, it might not even have to be a crazy dinner, I'm not looking to go a zillion dollars into the hole here (haha barely have recovered from the dress!). So even just somewhere for cocktails would be fun.

So more just somewhere fun for drinks and possibly dancing... anywhere else besides the Rainbow room that you can think of?

What's your top 3 upper east side restaurants with moderate prices?

1. Ottomanelli (love the chicken parm)
2. Pio Pio peruvian chicken
3. Either Beyoglu or Beanochinos (not so much dinner, more a cafe but)

Where to celebrate b-day w/ wine & dessert downtown?

If you're willing to venture into the LES, there's a chocolate and wine bar on Clinton St and Stanton that I have been to that may be suited for your needs.

For your "last" night in NYC: Where would you go to get all decked out? (Black Tie)

Hi Hounds,

It's looking like I might spend two-three months in the Philippines for work, and sort of would like to plan one of those *perfect* NYC nights on the town where my sweetie and I can get all decked out and have a night on the town to remember.

Normally I love the $5 Hallal cart and sitting on a stoop, eating gelato from Il Lab, but I do have a lovely vintage Dior ball gown that I practically leveraged my tutition to afford three years ago when I was broke, and would love to bust that out for a wonderful upscale evening.

So here's my request:
- pre-dinner drinks
-dinner somewhere great that you could wear such an outfit (sweetie will be in suit I guess)
- perhaps dancing?

This isn't really my scene so I am entirely not sure of where would be appropriate, although some thoughts are perhaps: The Rainbow Room (does that even exist?), drinks at the Pierre, perhaps somewhere in the Time Warner Center?

Also, think more "old new york" and less "touristy trendy" ie, please nowhere like Buddakan or Pastis/mpd standbys.

Thank you very much!

Pre-Ironman, Post Da Andrea (W Village), nearby for wine?

MacnCheesy, Thanks! That sounds perfect :)

I am going to need all the luck I can get for the race... looking to come in around 16 hours! :)

Pre-Ironman, Post Da Andrea (W Village), nearby for wine?

Hi Hounds :)

Scenario: Leaving for my Ironman race the following Thursday, doing an intimate "carbo loading" dinner at Da Andrea (personal fav in NYC), and wanted to meet some other friends for a glass or two of wine somewhere close by...

Requirements: Low key, good for a small group, not too scenester-y, good wine, walking distance from Da Andrea

So think a group of maybe 8 people that is near Da Andrea (Hudson St | Btwn Perry St & 11th St), low key, and nice for a few glasses of wine.

Mucho besos,
C

Visiting NYC- suggestions on my itinerary

I'd say New Green Bo for soup dumplings over Joes, Joes is kind of "touristy" now. (also prefer NGB anyways).

Good list, Andrew, I was impressed... and you did your research!

Ottomanelli Mystery - Franchise or Different Buisnesses?

Funny. I was just out in Queens and walked by an Ottomanelli's in Woodside as well. Live near the York Ave meat market and cafe at 85th. The cafe has GREAT, cheap pastas. Reminiscent of Ralphs on 56th.9th Ave.

DB Bistro Moderne

Was just there a few weeks ago for a business lunch. If you can swing it, get the $32 burger, I would say it's in the "not miss" category.
