Moving to Stamford CT. Where to eat?

Mexican: Casa Villa or Bar Taco (more hip/cool) or El Charrito (taco truck)
Tapas: Barcelona
Asian: Little Buddha (they have gone a little downhill, but still pretty good)
Indian: Coromandel is good, but I also like Tawa
Pizza: Colony (people are also raving about Riko's)
Burgers: Five Guys (I don't care, it's convenient and I like it!)

There are a lot of great places in Fairfield county (and even the towns in NY that border us), many within a 20 minute drive, so don't limit yourself to Stamford. I particularly love Port Chester for all kinds of Spanish food deliciousness.

Cool place for biz dinner

Thank you everyone!

Already have Gjelina reserved for one day. Have heard good things about it. Any must-haves on the menu?

Cool place for biz dinner

I'm going to be in LA in a couple of weeks from NYC and am looking for a cool/nice place to take a client for dinner. Bazaar was suggested and Laurel Hardware as well, but not sure if either spot is worthwhile? I'm more into farm to table and new American style food. Any suggestions?

Sugar & Olives, Norwalk, CT. Anyone?

I had brunch there and I was disappointed. Nothing to write home about at all. Definitely overpriced for what it is. That said, it is a cool space. Better for a liquid brunch than actual eating.

Wheat Free, Gluten Free, Celiac Safe Restaurants or Cafe's in Chicago

I wanted to revive this thread to see if there's any new gluten-free spots or places with gluten-free options that have opened recently? Or any of the places above that are a must try? I'm visiting in a couple of weeks and looking for great places to try.

Any yummy spots for pizza, or are the places above still open?

Thank you both for the suggestions! We're staying at the Affinia, but we're getting a car, so we're ok with a little traveling too. :)

3 Days in Chicago - Would love some recos!

I'm going to be in Chicago in the next couple of weeks traveling with my toddler and husband. We're very into food, but since we have the tot in tow, can't do the super upscale places like Alinea (I'm sure we couldn't get a res at this point even if we could anyway).

I've been once before and ate at some fabulous places, but want to know where two people who love good food (New American/Farm to Table our favorites) can take a well behaved toddler to eat, and still be able to get her something that doesn't have truffle butter on it. :)

Breakfast and lunch options would be great too. I'm gluten-free and have found a few places so far that I'm thinking about like Tweet (for breakfast), did Girl & The Goat before and on the fence if I should go again.

So many amazing places to eat, I just need some help whittling it down and finding places that would be ok for us to bring the little one.

Happy to look at previous threads too if anyone has suggestions of good ones for me to check out.

Thank you!!

Asian Grocery Store

Thanks all! I'm looking for Thai Basil. Would Eataly have it? It's the closest to where I work.

Asian Grocery Store

Are there any Asian grocery stores that sell produce in or near midtown? If not, what would be the best option to find Thai produce in Chinatown?

Thank you!

Pho in Amsterdam?

I went to Xinh last night for dinner and can vouch for its authenticity. I am a pho lover and constantly on the hunt for the perfect broth, (since I've never been to Vietnam and can't vouch for the amazingness of their pho) which I have only had twice - once being in Paris (Le Bambou) and the other made by the mother of my Vietnamese best friend.

That being said, Xinh's broth was excellent. Full of anise/cinnamon flavor and rich. All of the herbs (thai basil, cilantro, etc) and flavorings (hoisin/sriracha) were there as well. At 15 euro a bowl it's the most expensive pho I've ever had, but definitely in my top 3 now.

Thanks for this thread, without it I wouldn't have been able to satisfy this craving I've had during my vacation. :)

Now back to New York and the lackluster pho there. :(

Visiting BCN for the first time - what are the must-try restaurants?

Thank you! We walked down paella row and we were spying on everyone's dish, I could not see any soccarradito on any pan whatsoever and this was what I thought was the holy grail of paella. =\

I'd like to get out of town so I may head over to Levante in Benisano tonight. We'll see. :)

Can you recommend any other restaurants in VLC? Am heading to Casa Montana for lunch today, but I'm open.

Visiting BCN for the first time - what are the must-try restaurants?

Thanks for the recos. I had some really good meals while in BCN . Great tapas at Tapac 24 (the omelet with potatoes & chorizo is incredible). An amazing meal at Tickets (will post about later, including how Albert Adria spilled water all over me and then later on in the evening we had an awkward hug - good times) and drinks at 41 Degrees. A good meal, but really not floored at Alkimia. And some miscellaneous stops that were more about being hungry and wanting something immediately than for another reason, ie. Taller de Tapas.

Overall really lovely and enjoyed my time.

Currently in Valencia though and am struggling on where to go. Only here for one more night, but cannot seem to find THE place to have paella despite crawling these boards and the net. Seems like no one can agree on any one place. Thoughts?

I ate at restaurante Neptune tonight, was so hungry and didn't want to travel far. It was ok, but certainly not the best.

Visiting BCN for the first time - what are the must-try restaurants?

Thank you! El Cellar de Can Roca looks fantastic, do they only do tasting menus? Also, random question, are a lot of places closed on Mondays? I arrive Monday AM and want to be prepared in case I need to hit up a market. :)

Any thoughts on lunch?

Visiting BCN for the first time - what are the must-try restaurants?

I'm visiting Barcelona for the first time next month and have been doing some perusing of the boards to find restaurants to add to my list for my stay.

I'm gluten-free, but I don't want to let that completely dictate where I go - although restaurants sympathetic to GF diets would be great. :)

I have a reservations at 41 Degrees for drinks and am hoping to get a walk-in spot at Tickets that same night (a girl can hope!), but other than that I don't have anything planned.

Pretty open to trying anything, but have a particular fondness for pork and wine. Not really into tasting menus, unless they are all about swine. I really would like to have some great seafood, tapas and wine while I'm there and I don't want to visit the touristy spots if it can be helped.

Any recommendations? I'll have a car so I'm not limited by location in any way.

Thanks in advance!

Fairway - Stamford

Haven't read all of the replies yet, but I checked Fairway out the weekend it opened and it was a mob scene of course.

I was really impressed with the selection, but they are woefully lacking in some things you'd expect them to have, like rice noodles in the asian section or hominy in the mexican section. really?

i also think the staff, especially the baggers and check out people, are inept. They will literally give you a bag for every item you purchase. Talk about excess and waste!

That said, this is now my go to store. The prices are just ok.

According to their Twitter, they are going to be featured on a TLC show called Best Food ever end of next month/early July. AND they are looking for new recipes in Mexico. Hope they bring back tasty ideas.

North Conway Recs

I'm visiting family in NH in a few weeks and will be in the North Conway area. Any recommendations for places to eat? I'm gluten free, but I'd do a steakhouse too, if there is a good one in the area.

Would love recs for any bars or restaurant bars to grab drinks at too!

I have been craving camarones al ajillo for days and I have no idea where I can get it in the Fairfield County area. I'm up to a short jaunt out to Westchester county as well if nothing in CT.

Saturday Brunch in Fairfield Cty

You've got a good memory louuuuu! I've been to City Limits a couple of times and I tried the Corn Beef Hash one time and the Huevos Rancheros the other time. It was good, but I was a little underwhelmed.

I've been spoiled by Corn Beef Hash w/Poached Egg at Bouchon in Vegas and Kate's in SF, and I can't seem to find the equivalent around here or even in the city.

I feel like someone could make a killing in the Fairfield County area opening a weekend spot that only served brunch!

Thanks for the recos guys! :)

Saturday Brunch in Fairfield Cty

Does it exist? I'd love recos for some good places to get brunch, especially on Saturday's. Really like 1020 Post, but they only do Sunday. Can't really seem to find other options that aren't diners.

Kid friendly places are a plus! :)

Corn Beef Hash - FFD County

Anyone know where to get a hearty and good corn beef hash - preferably with poached eggs? I've had it at Blind Charlie's, but it wasn't that great. I had some pretty outstanding corn beef hash and eggs at Kate's Kitchen in California and also at Bouchon in Vegas - if anyone can point me in the direction of something similar I'd be really grateful!

Little Budda in Stamford??

I love Little Buddha! I order from there a couple of times a month and I'm never disappointed. Their beef rendang and nonya chicken curry are both awesome.
The chiang mei noodle soup is also another winner - far, far better than their tom kha. Chicken larb is also very good.

Definitely agree with the others here, the food is spicy and I don't mean wimpy spice either. I love spicy food so it doesn't put me off at all, but if you're into milder flavors you might want to ask them to tone it down a bit.

Definitely think this place is way, way better than Kit's and a bit more refined too flavor wise.

Craving Pasteles

It's similar, but made with plantains instead of corn (Puerto Rican style). I may have to just suck it up and make them from scratch at home if I can't find a place around here.

Craving Pasteles

Is there any place in Fairfield County or Port Chester where I can get them?
