Scribbler's Profile

What do you believe is the best butter you can get

when I am in Sarasota FL visiting my mother, we go to the Amish farmer's market and get the butter that they make there. I'm not much of a baker, so when I have some "special" butter, I use it on bread or toast. In NY I use Kerrygold.

M. Wells

Did they reopen yet? Anyone know where the new location is going to be??

K Cups?

OK, I don't want to start a coffee war, but I just bought a Keurig coffee maker (being delivered today from Amazon) and I was wondering if there were local places to by the k-cups, rather than purchasing on-line.

Best Thai in Sarasota?

Thanks! I'll keep it in mind for the next trip.......

Best Thai in Sarasota?

Looking for Thai food for tonight - what's the best place around?? TIA - S.

Malverne Theatre - any lunch ideas?

Meeting a friend for a movie in Malverne and we want to have lunch beforehand. I am absolutely clueless about nearby places for lunch. Wouldn't rule out a short drive somewhere, but like to stay as local as possible. Any ideas???

Stuffed Peppers in Brooklyn

My daughter came out to visit from Bushwick and bought the stuffed peppers she loves from a local store - then left them at my house! Does anyone know where she can buy those stuffed cherry peppers either in Bushwick or in the Atlantic Terminal area? She likes the ones stuffed with bread crumbs, not the cheese/prosciutto ones.
Of course, she might just have to come out and visit Mom again.........;)

First visit to Sarasota and Tampa

I go to Sarasota at least once a year to visit my mom and it's a great city. Patrick's on Main St is the best burger in town. Michael's on East is nice if you want a special-occasion place. There are a few Amish places with plain and hearty food; Heritage is one of them and they have a great bakeshop attached to it. Lots of people love Carabba's for Italian; Bonefish Grill is very popular also. There is so much there - your only problem will be choosing a place to go.

St. John's Cemetery in Queens

Need suggestions for post-burial lunch for family. Small group, "plain" fare or Italian (no Asian), price no issue. Thanks.

Coffee with cream...taste better when the cream goes in first!

I always put in the cream and sugar first, not only because you don't have to stir it, but because my Grandmother always said if you put it in last you will "cross your love". Not that I believe in old wives' tales, but who wants to take a chance?

Park Slope Birthday Lunch

She'll be 29 on Sunday. Also, Williamsburg might be a better location than Park Slope, as my other daughter is unable to join us. TX.

Park Slope Birthday Lunch

Looking for a special place for a birthday lunch for my daughter on Sunday. Park Slope or close by would be the best location. Doesn't have to be a fancy place, just not too low-rent. Food must be wonderful. All suggestions welcome.
TIA

Brooklyn Public Library vicinity

We are attending the Read In at the main branch of BPL on Sunday afternoon. Would like to find some place for an early dinner that would accomodate three generations; an eighty-something who is allergic to preservatives in food; two young adults who are style/fitness fanatics and won't eat anything that isn't healthy/lowfat/lowcarb (and one doesn't eat fish); and the parents in the middle who just want to have a good meal and not break the bank. Have been browsing around the boards and just can't find something that seems right. Any ideas??
TIA.

Pio Pio Green Sauce

How does freezing affect the taste? Does it get hotter or milder?

Pio Pio Green Sauce

How long does the green sauce they give you as take-out last? We got a $5 container about three weeks ago. It was half-gone and I threw it out. My husband had a fit, saying it was still good. Was it? I'd rather have him mad than dead from food poisoning, but I don't want to deprive him, either.
I'm thinking it's good for a week, at best, but would like to hear from others. What about freezing it? As much as he loves it, the container lasts a long time because we eat out a lot.

Zero Otto Nove - Arthur Ave.

One of my favorite places and my favorite on Arthur Avenue. We love the the salernitano appetizer platter. Never a disapointment at this place!

Best Greek Restaurant in Queens

Two nominations from Far East Queens: Mythos, on Northern just before Francis Lewis, and Nikita's in Whitestone.

Cupcakes in the Village?

Thanks to all who responded to my previous post about a German restaurant for my daughter's birthday. I've looked into all the recommendations and decided Lederhosen fits our needs the best. The birthday girls wants cupcakes for dessert - is there any great cupcake place in the area where we could go for dessert??

German Food in Manhattan?

Looking for a place for a family birthday celebration - the birthday girl loves German food. Is there anything in Manhattan? Zum Stammtisch in Queens is geographically difficult for some of us. Schnitzel Haus in Brooklyn does not have many good reviews. Looking for any suggestions; Manhattan not necessary, Brooklyn is okay, Queens if near subway transportation. TIA.

Brooklyn Heights: 2 Days, 10 Women

Sounds like fun! Morton's, downstairs from the hotel, has a lovely $25 lunch. It might be an easy way to get the day started..............

Great Portugese in Jamaica

Last Saturday we went to:

O Lavrador
(718) 526-1526 - 138-40 101st Ave, Queens, NY 11435

This little gem is on 101st just before the Van Wyck. Cozy spot; I had the best fried calamari of my life and the sauce that came with it was a tangy tomato/onion, not like the sweet glop you sometimes get on the side. Had a special of brown rice and duck with their own homemade sausage. My friend had the octopus appetizer and the seafood linguine. We shared homemade chocolate cake as dessert (wow!). There is valet parking right next to the place, so there is no excuse for you not to go out to this hidden gem. REALLY good!

(Urgent!) BK - Takeout lunches around Borough Hall

Court Order, on Court near Joralemon, or the soup-salad-sandwich place on the corner of Remsen and Court.

Sripraphai Expands!

Yes, sorry for posting this on the wrong board; I read the map wrong!

Sripraphai Expands!

It appears that there is a new branch of Sri - address is 280 Hillside Avenue in N. New Hyde Park, which I THINK is still Queens, but right around the border line. Anyone been? I am very excited - have plans to lunch there with a friend on Saturday!

Grass Fed Beef?

This is what I managed for my weekend barbeque: hotdogs from Trader Joe's w/o nitrates/nitrites and bison burgers from my local supermarket - the label said no hormones or antibiotics, but I don't know what the beef was fed. there must be more ways to eat healthy around here..........

Grass Fed Beef?

I don't know if this is exactly a "craving", but recently I have both read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and seen "Food, Inc". I really want to avoid meat from the factory-type operations shown in the movie, but I am not a vegetarian, so I need to get some meat! I did buy beef that was "grass and grain" fed in my supermarket, but I don't know how much better that was. Since I live in the 'burbs, I don't have easy access to farmer's markets that feature meat products. My on-line search shows that I can order from out-of-state farms, but I would much prefer something more local that does not involve freezing the food and transporting it great distances. Does anyone have any ideas? I work in downtown Bklyn, but our market is also only veggies/bread/flowers.
TIA

Wafa?

Thanks to all for the help. We were there yesterday and just loved it. I bought myself a little spinach roll for my lunch today and was happy all over again!! A great place.

Wafa?

I already did, and it is not.

Wafa?

I want to try this place out on Sunday. Does anyone know if it is open on Sunday? I'm assuming no reservations, cash only, right??

Le Relais de Venise

The NY Times reports today that this Paris restaurant now has a branch in NYC. A simple menu of steak frites and salad made for a very memorable meal on our Paris honeymoon. Would love to go back and re-live the moment. Anyone been to the NYC yet??
