Kosher in Columbus, Ohio

My wife and I are considering a move to the capital of Ohio. What is the range of kosher restaurants and stores that are available to the community?

Chulent Recipe/Ingredients (moved from Kosher board)

Ok fellow Chowhounders the time has come for me to get married. By this time next week I will be at my 3rd Sheva Brachos. By July, my Kallah and I will be preparing our first Shabbos by ourselves for the first time. Neither of us have any experience in making some good old Chulent.

This is where you guys come in. I need recipes, just not ordinary recipes. I know how to put barley, potatoes and meat in a crock pot. Although, I do not know how to make flavorful, thick and liquidy Chulent. Is Kishka mandatory? Can tomatoes be put in? What's a better base, barley or beans? HELP!

I am also looking for random ingrediants that have worked well for you in your Chulent. I've heard of beer, chicken wings, ketchup, honey, scotch, tobasco sauce, various kugels, paprika, even pineapple being put into Chulent.

Also, when is the best time to turn on the crock pot? Thursday night, friday morning or friday before sunset? And how much is enough for 2 people?

Thanks for all the help and input.

Kosher Restaurants in/near Edison, NJ

Fellow Foodies,

I am looking for a restaurant in or near the Edison, NJ area. Since this is for my Sheva Brachos it should be a sit down/nice place. It could be meat or dairy. Any reviews for The Orchard in Highland Park, NJ?

Chag Sameach!

Best Glatt Kosher Deli in Brooklyn

Its Ave U and the E 20's. I will check the name tomorrow.

Best Glatt Kosher Deli in Brooklyn

The cold cuts at Caraville are just as good as the original essex on coney, if not better. I had a deli sandwhich there last week. The postions were great and the cold cuts were moist and flavorful. Two thumbs up on essex's reincarnation.

The same cannot be said about Palace Grill. I went there a few weeks ago and had a pastrami sandwhich. The meat was dry and scant. Plus, they didn't even have russian/thou island dressing!!! What's up with that? Two thumbs down on palace grill.

While we are on topic, has anyone tried the new glatt kosher deli on Ave U and East 30's? Be careful there is a treif deli that has been there for decades.

Norman's closed!

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miami area suggestions

Sara's is awesome! The prices are good and the food has a quality to it.

Most importantly, they have the greatest kosher nachos within the lower 48 states.

Have you used the Spice and Spirit cookbook?

It seems as if everyone swears by the kosher pallette, susie fishbein books. Every house I go to has these cookbooks.

Big Issue-Kosher Deli in Brooklyn

I was wondering when Caravelle would be packing up.

Seriously, where am I getting my brisket sandwhiches?

Kosher in New Orleans?

Go to kosher cajun and order a kosher shrimp po-boy!

delicious!

Big Issue-Kosher Deli in Brooklyn

Ok fellow chowhounders, this is an emergency issue. we need our collective mind to come together on this one:

I love cole slaw, i love deli hot dogs and I love stuffed deli sandwhiches. With the closing of Essex on Coney, kosher delis are becoming an ever increasingly endangered species.

Ave T deli is not up to kosher par with me. And I would like to stay within Southern Brooklyn.

Now what?!

Miami Asian Restaurants

Sam's Deli is good if you have no budget restrictions.

Miami Asian Restaurants

Sara's for pizza and nachos! The food quality at Sara's is great!

Awesome Nachos!

Places with a sukkah in NYC area?

So many restaurant will have a succah. You should figure out what kind of food u are craving.

easy fast!

Looking for tasty baked goods...

The penultimate answer to this question is The Meltaway Cake from Zomick's in Cederhurst, NY. Some will argue, but deep down inside everyone knows this is the greatest parve cake.

The glorious amount of chocolate takes care of the dryness issue.

Kosher food in Albany, NY?

Are there any kosher restaurants or take out stores in Albany, New York?

brooklyn family-style take-out recs?

I'm not sure if it's still there but "Deli on 52" (located at 13 av and 52 st) has the best chulent and hottest mishmar scene.

Anyone go there on a thursday night?

brooklyn family-style take-out recs?

The owner of Big Fleishigs has a great sense of humor. When they first opened they were called McFleishigs. They recieved a cease and desist order from McDonalds. So they changed their name and taped the order to the wall for everyone to see.

They also were one of the first brooklyn restaurants to actively advertise the curbside pick up.

Kosher Version of Nathan's Hot Dogs

zsero,

Don't worry, you are not missing much. The meat at subway is like rubber. I'm definately not impressed with the attempt at kosher Subway.

Kosher Version of Nathan's Hot Dogs

That place they called Nathan's was open for may be 2 months tops. The quality was extremely poor!

Estihana express was a better replacement. But, not by much.

Best steak ??? - Update on bored

I have run a personal taste test between a rib eye from prime grill and le mariais:

prime grill: thicker cut, cooks rare, better sauces for steak, fried onions!

le mariais: thinner steak, cooks well done, sauces are poor, no fried onions.

Winner is Prime Grill. (subjective)

Sunday Breakfast in Brooklyn (Time Sensitive)

I definately recommend Garden of Eat In, no where else can you find a kosher diner.

Except for Luckys on Kings H'Way.

Donuts in Brooklyn

KRISPY KREME!!!

Phenomenal Kosher Pizza? Does it Exist?

The best shwarma (any takers?), would be pita on the corner, on ave p and east 2 st. Anyone know a place where I can get strictly kosher lamb shwarma in Brooklyn? Pita Plus (Strickland Ave and Mill Ave) used to have it.

J-Town Steak House's Yeminite soup is much, much better than Olympic's!

brooklyn family-style take-out recs?

Mrmoose is right. miesners is very good. FYI order a fried chicken skin sandwhich with sauerkraut.

However, Tuv Tam at Ave M and Nostrand, takes the prize for fried broccoli and cauliflower.

Phenomenal Kosher Pizza? Does it Exist?

I'm going to second that statement. Pizza Time is awesome. Numerous peers who were raised on non-kosher pizza, say very positive things about Pizza Time.

The myth that kosher food must taste terrible, is an unfair generalization. Anyone ever go to Jerusalem Steak House, coincidentally also on Ave. J, the quality of the meal is amazing.

PS- It's a zoo, because of the cred. And I'm very excited to have found a forum on kosher food!
