Modest-Good Indian Options in London Well, we're meeting at the Tooting Bec tube stop, so at least we're in the right area. Recommendations anyone? |

Modest-Good Indian Options in London Guess there's a difference of opinion here....You're right, Howler, Tayyab does have excellent kebabs, but I don't think the rest of the items on the menu are standouts, and certainly not worth lining up for. I've eaten at Dehi Grill 4 times in the last six weeks, and have tasted pretty much the entire menu - though the specials do change from week to week, and I've surely missed something. It is consistently good, though I can't say I've been blown away by anything, and the kebabs were, frankly, not to my liking - but maybe this is because I'm used to charcoal. Needo's dried beef appears often in my dreams, but I have found their grills to be inconsistent, though it is my go to place because I'm in E. London, and I've never had a real miss there. I haven't been back to Raavi Kebab - not a tourist place AT ALL - for over a year, and I've only had 3 meals there - all without the least regret. Though I've not sampled the entire menu, everything we ate was top notch and perfectly spiced and, it's close to Paddington, which is where domenexx is staying....Maybe you should re-visit or, perhaps, maybe I should. On another note, some friends have asked us to join them for S. Indian in Wandsworth. Anyone eaten there? It's quite a trek. |

Tayyabs, Needoo Grill or Lahore Kebab House ?? [London] Try the neglected - on this board, at least - Raavi Kebab on Drummond St. near Euston Station. It's far better than Tayyabs, at least as good as Needoo, and more authentic than both. |

Modest-Good Indian Options in London Often neglected in these posts is the wonderful - truly wonderful - Raavi Kebab, which is near Euston Station, so not too far from where you're staying. It's certainly the equal to the better known Needo Grill and infinitely nicer than Tayyab, which is way over pumped. Dehli Grill is fine, but this is the real thing. Sticking to religious tradition, no alcohol. Try the Beef Nehari for a kick. Everything, even the common 'butter chicken' type dishes are insanely good. |

Excellent steak tartare @ The Bountiful Cow, Holborn, London Agreed. I had a steak tartare there about 1 year ago, having started out with a few pints at their sister pub - the Seven Stars - and it was truly the best I've had in London and on a par with the best in Paris. Thanks for bringing it back to life in my memory which is not what it used to be. BTW, try the herring at Seven Stars....you will be mightily surprised. |

Yet another Thattukada update [London] Just a slight correction, Justin. Thattukada is not moving, they're opening another restaurant down the street, which will cater to families - whose business they haven't been getting in the original place - and it will be alcohol free, but the same menu. So, different atmosphere/same food. As to the beef curry, I ordered it tonight on your recommendation. This is my eighth time there and it never occurred to me to try the beef curry. You're right. Sensational. A half-portion of the 65 fish, beef curry with chapatti, and a large Kingfisher set me back 14 quid. How much better can it get. |

Nuts, Seeds, Spices, Grains, Dried Fruit Does anyone know where I can find these items in bulk - I don't mean the packaged variety, I mean in large bins or containers with scoops. The reference for me is Kakulas Brothers in Perth, Australia, but even ordinary NYC health food stores have this option. London???? |
