Fresh seafood/shrimp trucks Oahu
We will be in Honolulu next month with a rental car. I wrote on my itinerary when we visit the North Shore to try local seafood Are there any Chowhound recs where we should get great local seafood when we're out that way?
Also, online I've come across shrimp trucks. Are these out the North Shore way too? Or do I have to follow them on twitter to see where they're at? What are the popular trucks' names?
Thanks!

How busy does American Fish get? So all the food on the second link is $5? Thanks :)
Luau: Honolulu or Maui?
Oh too bad :( We are in Maui on the 11th and coming to Honolulu on the 12th. Thanks thought :)
Mama's Fish House and Rd. to Hana
We will be visiting and staying in Lahaina and plan to do the drive to Hana. My friend told me about Mama's Fish House and how it's on the way to the Rd. to Hana but I'm slightly confused looking at the map when I googled mapped Mama's it looks like it's on the top part of the island and Hana is on the far right of the island and Lahaina is on the left - so i feel like it would be a big triangle. I'm trying to organize our itinerary and slot in dining with activities in the same general vicinity for the days we will be in those areas.
Other areas we plan to visit are Makena Beach, Wailea and Kaanapli.
Thanks :)
Best Fish and Chips - Mississauga
Thankfully we don't live nearby or we'd eat this way more than we should lol. It's a great place and a great treat when we're out that way. The fish is always very light, and good portions like you said and service. The homestyle lemonade is nice too.

Two unexpected, amazingly delicious dishes from Bayview Court Chinese Restaurant
We went here last night. Food is still great but tried to ask for the special chicken and I'm not sure if the waiter misunder stood or if he's right telling us they don't make this great chicken anymore?! Has anyone had it lately?
Luau: Honolulu or Maui?
We will be visiting from Toronto in June and spending time in Honolulu and Maui. I have read here good things about Feast at Lele and Old Lahaina Luau in Maui. When I was a kid, back in the mid 90s we went to Germaine's Luau out of Honolulu. When I was a kid it was entertaining. I am now coming back to Hawaii with my fiance for his first Hawaii trip and would like to take him to the best luau experience. Wondering if the better ones are in Maui or Honolulu and if there are any others I should look in to.
Thanks :)
best wedding cakes in toronto
Hmm I was going to reply directly to the Dessert Trends rec below but it won't work on my iPad. Anyways we have chosen Chef Don and Dessert Trends for our wedding cake for later this summer. We are serving it as our dessert and wanted it to be a good cake and not just something pretty. Chef Don's cake was very moist and light and not too sweet. We also liked that his is the only one the offered real fresh fruit in the middle of the layers. We sampled Just Temptations from the bridal show and at their shop but found it to be dry and not as refreshing as DT. We also sampled Flour Studio which is mostly cupcakes but again didn't wow us and were a little on the sweet side for us. Lastly we looked at I Do Wedding Cakes. We enjoyed the sample at the bridal show but at the shop didn't love it as much.
We got a DT cake for a family birthday after ordering our wedding cake and we were so happy to have chosen DT to do the wedding cake because the freshness, moistness, flavour and appearance reaffirmed our choice of a great bakery.
Has anyone tried "Bombay Hut" on Avenue Road?
I haven't tried it and was wondering about comparisons. We enjoy Copper Chimmney.
Redwood City and surrounds
Thank you for recommending Donato! We were staying in Redwood a few days ago and tried it since I read your recommendation here. I tried the Bigoli pasta and it was amazing! Very nice ambiance and service.
Fun, lively, trendy and tasty near Union Sq?
Looking for dinner recommendations for late 20 something Toronto Chowhounds visiting this Wednesday over the New Year's long weekend. We would like to walk to dinner around our hotel in the Union Sq area or a short can ride at best. Variety of cuisines, nothing specific though we tend to get a lot of Asian cuisines here so probably wouldn't go for it since we want to try new things. $15-30 entree range. Just don't want to end up at touristy places like the Cheesecake Factory! Thanks!
NYE dinner and drinks?
Incanto is available but at 6... Looks quite popular and reviews are good but is there a lot of obscure meats ie tuna heart or are there regular dishes too? Looks like the menu changes up? Thanks!
Butter Avenue
Friends of mine got me a delicious 6 pack of the raspberry macarons for my birthday back in March and I gobbled them up. They were so light and not too sweet! Loved them! Glad they're opening near home!
NYE dinner and drinks?
Hi there SF Chowhounds!
I am a Toronto Chowhound coming down somewhat last minute over NYE and was looking to get some suggestions for a nice place for dinner and drinks that may still have reservations. We are a couple in our late 20s, no specific cuisine required, no more than $100pp with dinner and drinks and somewhat lively.
Thanks!

What are the price points like? How is it in comparison to Copper Chimney? We really like CC
What to order at Buddah's Vegetarian (666 Dundas)?
My friend brought me here for the first time and it was very delicious! Felt like my grandma's kitchen when we were dining there. We had the hot and sour soup, medium (which allowed us to each have 2 portions), spring rolls (very crispy and nicely packed with veggies), mock duck and the vermicelli. Great place and reminds me of the vegetarian meal we eat at the temple in Lantau Island in HK when we travel :)
Torontonians in Chicago for 3 nights
Thank you Nsxtasy! You are a very helpful member of the Chow community!
We had a fabulous time in Chicago! First thing we did was stroll around Michigan Ave and we smelled something fabulous to find the Garrett's! We thought cheese and caramel would be weird but it was delicious!
Our first meal was at Joe's Stone Crab and we had the prix fixe lunch. The prix fixe came with a crab bisque (soo tasty!) and some of us had the filet mignon and some had the 6 stone crabs. Meal ended with key lime pie and banana cream pie.
Later after an afternoon of shopping and a boat cruise (beautiful city!) we put our name down for a table at Uno. We loved the pizza and loved that it wasn't too salty or greasy. We tried the spinocolli (very good!) and the traditional Uno. We were pleasantly surprised with this since we generally don't eat pizza for dinner
Ack battery dying. Will write about N9NE later!
Torontonians in Chicago for 3 nights
Thank you nsxtasy for your detailed advice! I'm not sure where my mom found N9NE but we'll give it a whirl. I wanted to try Joe's Stone Crab in Miami but it wasn't in season when we were there. I went on their site and saw their great prix fixe lunches so we booked that for Thursday lunch. Thank you again :)

Torontonians in Chicago for 3 nights
Hi there Chicago Chowhounders,
We'll be down in Chicago for the first time next Thursday to Sunday. I've been doing some research on restaurants so that we don't end up at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. We already have 1 reservation at N9NE Steakhouse that my mom researched and found out she wanted to try.
We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency on East Wacker. I have read a lot about Rick Bayless' restaurants. They sound great but my parents aren't Mexican fans. I am interested to try the original Pizzeria Uno. but other than that I'm slightly slumped on other places to go that are somewhat nearby or easy to get to by transit. We generally like all cuisines (except the fussy non Mexican eaters in our party). Generally hoping to spend max $20-$30/pp for entree. We get a lot of Asian cuisine in Toronto so we can probably skip on that.
Looking forward to reading your suggestions

Shiso Tree Cafe - An interesting 'Pasta' find inside J-Town!
Tried this tonight and had a very great meal and experience! I didn't know this type of Japanese food existed! We tried the special, Hokkaido scallops in a creamy rose sauce with clams - very tasty. We tried a wafu which was white wine sauce and clams. Will definitely go back to try more!
