Did anyone go to the Burger Battle in Wilmington? Yes, they do create fantastic burgers. Wells is the name of the company in Philadelphia where they purchase their meats. And we have been going to their $5 Burgers on Monday Nights for almost two years now. The lucky lady just cannot let it go. And their $2 oz. Filet Mignon Sundays is great also. |

Desperate for fresh fish place in Wilmington, DE!!! Without a doubt, Dawsons is the freshest fish in the area. |

Univ of Delaware/Newark, DE-Wilmington, DE Just did Mother's Day there. FANTASTIC!!! $30/person brunch that was out of this world. The meal was as follows: 1.) Sweet pastries; The meal was wonderful and the service always fantastic. I miss the old place when Tony G. used to own it, but the new owners/staff have taken the Fair Hill Inn to another level. I have already inquired about Father's Day. |

Blue Parrot Bar & Grille in Wilmington So the manager did not show you where this FEE appears on the menu? He just stated that, "they underline it on the bill?" And this was for a party of three? Had I been in your position, I would have paid the bill less the 18% gratuity. I would then explain to the manager exactly why I was doing so. If the manager wants to come after me in Small Claims Court then let him. I am not a lawyer either, but I am fairly certain that you cannot charge me for something that 1.) I did not order and/or, 2.) I was not properly informed of. I have a feeling a judge would throw something like this out of small claims court! No need to visit this establishment. I would let the woman that blogs over at the News Journal of this situation. I think she might be interested in this story. I would certainly try and get the word out on this practice. |

Is there ANY restaurant at all worth going to in Wilmington, DE? A small correction: Union City Grille serves their half priced burgers in both the Bar and Main DIning Room. |

Review of Corky's BBQ, Tropicana & Bdwk, AC Thank you for the report. You had a horrific experience! I certainly would have written the corporate headquarters and inform them of your meal. Many years ago I ate at one of the Corky's located east of Memphis. The ribs were some of the best I have ever had. I prefer to have my ribs dry with the sauce on the side; I want to taste the meat and see if the ribs are truly delicious. The Memphis location did not disappoint. I had high hopes for good ribs in Atlantic City, but it looks like it is not to be. Again, thank you for the report and taking one for the team. |

Rehoboth Beach Long Weekend Suggestions? I will second Big Fish Grill for lunch/dinner. Great seafood and moderately priced. The place can get a bit loud due to the open layout of the restaurant, so lunch might be a better bet if you don't want to deal with the noise. Take a look at Nage in Rehoboth. Fantastic restaurant. |

I have been trying to get a group together for Talula's for sometime now. Under the Oak Cafe looks like a fun experience. I like the idea of being able to watch the chef's prepare the food. I have it bookmarked. |

Good food near West Chester University I tried this restaurant once several years ago and found it lacking. I now see where many posters, whose opinions I respect, have said that it serves good, consistent food. I also read where they have remodeled their bar area. Looks like I will need to give them another visit. |

Good food near West Chester University I have not been there either. Thank you for the info. I really need to go to West Chester on a Saturday morning, have breakfast and explore. Need to walk up and down the various streets and see what is there. A lot of these smaller places Eclat, Taste of Olive, et al. have flown under my radar for too long. I think what I will do (provided weather is favorable) is visit on Saturday when the West Chester Farmer's Market is open (1st & 3rd Sat of each month during the winter). Have breakfast, shop at the market and then explore the many side streets that I have seemed to overlook. Wonderful thread! Thank you all for the information and thanks to the O.P. |

Good food near West Chester University How I have missed Eclat I don't know. The S.O. will be thrilled to hear about this place! Thanks for the heads up Buckethead. I might need to venture over there for a little Valentine surprise package. |

Good food near West Chester University If you are in town during the warmer months, stop by D'Ascenzo's Gelato. (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/792968) |

Big Fish Grill (Glen Mills, PA) The food is the same at all three locations; excellent. The difference is that both the Rehoboth and Wilmington-Riverfront locations can be a bit noisy due to their vast, open dining areas. The Glen Mills location has the two smaller Dining Rooms (#1 & #2) that allows for a more serene dining experience. Other than that, there is really no discernible difference among the three locations. |

Big Fish Grill (Glen Mills, PA) In a word, FANTASTIC! I have been a fan ever since I discovered the first BFG in Rehoboth, DE. My only problem was I lived in the Wilmington area and driving to the beach was a bit much on a week night. (And yes, I have done that a few times.) Not any more. Now I have my very own BFG not more than 30 minutes from the house. I have been twice since the beginning of the year, a Tuesday and Wednesday. The place is in the former American Grill building for those familiar with the location. To say they did a bang up job on the decor/design would be an understatement! They have five individual seating areas. Two smaller, more intimate dining areas are on the left hand side of the building (Dining Room's #1 & #2), while there is a Private Dining Area that seats approximately 20 people in its own enclosed room, in the middle of the restaurant. On the right hand side of the building is the large open air Main Dining Room with hardwood floors, accompanying 15 seat Bar and separate Oyster Bar. The bar area has 9 large screen HD TV's. Both nights we were there, the TV's were muted, allowing those at the bar to talk and eat in peace. If you want to people watch or be seen, you want to be here in the Main DIning Room area. I prefer the quiet, serene atmosphere of DIning Room #1. Now on to the food... Their salads are a wonderful combination of fresh greens, vegetables, fruits, nuts and cheeses. And while they are not overly large, they are good enough for two people. Yes, two people. I had the Goat Cheese Salad with fresh greens, pecans, roasted red peppers and raspberry vinaigrette ($5.95) on both occasions. Very good. She has sampled the Spinach Salad with chopped eggs, bacon, gorgonzola and apple cider vinaigrette ($4.95) and their Chopped Salad with carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, shoe peg corn and buttermilk garlic ranch ($4.95). Again, both were very good and more than enough. Our first visit saw the GF stepping out of her comfort range and ordering the 1.5 lb Steamed Lobster with two sides ($21.95). It's been awhile since either of us have had lobster, but considering this is lobster season, it was on point and delicious. She had them break the crustacean down so that it was a little more manageable. The lobster meat was firm, yet tender and succulent. It came with the usual drawn butter and accompanying shoestring fries. The fries were excellent; just the right amount of salt and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her second side. I had the Pecan Dusted Alaskan Halibut over Mashers and Baby Carrots with Tropical Fruit Salsa ($22.95). Felt like I was outside at an ocean front restaurant, with the fresh smell of the salt air caressing my nose. The fish was fresh as can be and cooked/seasoned to perfection; hot and steamy, yet moist on the inside. The light pecan crust added a nice textural component to the dish, while the tropical fruit salsa provided a bit of brightness. The Mashers were rustic with bits of potatoes throughout and were also seasoned just right. On our second visit, she ordered the Parmesan Cheese encrusted Halibut with Shoestring Fries and Sauteed Spinach ($19.95). Once again, the fish was cooked/seasoned to perfection, but this time we both felt the parmesan cheese crust clashed with the fish. The cheese gave the fish a bit of an off taste. Not a good pairing in our book. Maybe it is our palates, but while edible, it would not be a dish we would order again or recommend. The Fries and Spinach were excellent sides. I ordered the Fish 'n Chips, Beer Battered Cod with Shoestring Fries and Coleslaw ($19.95). Mind you, I rarely order fried seafood as I find it too greasy and usually laden with a heavy batter. On this night, I was craving for Fish 'n Chips and I made the right choice! This was without a doubt the best F&C's I have had in my lifetime. No exaggeration! What made this F&C's so different was the way they prepared the cod. There was no heavy batter. They salt/pepper the cod and then dust it in their own seasoned flour. No egg wash (at least I didn't detect any). Because of this method, the cod was not encrusted in a greasy, heavy batter. This F&C's was light and airy. For a moment I thought they had used Panko crumbs, but upon further inspection I realized it was something else. I asked the waitress if she would inquire for me and she came back and told me about the seasoned flour. The portion was more than generous and was piping hot upon arrival. When I cut into the dish, the crust gently yielded revealing a hot, moist piece of cod. Both the fish and I were very happy. The shoestring fries were once again tasty. The coleslaw was well seasoned with very little mayonnaise, but just enough to combine the slaw. On both nights the wait staff was cheerful, courteous and attentive. If you are searching for a fish restaurant that serves consistent meals, is reasonably priced and offers a variety of dishes, look no further than this location in Glen Mills, PA. While their dress code is casual, you can certainly entertain business clients, or hold a special celebration in their Private Dining Room and feel right at home. If you are looking for a quiet meal, they can accompany you in Dining Room #1 or #2. If you want to hangout with your friends and people watch, their Main Dining Room is the place. Or, if all you want is a great meal while you watch the game, pony up to the bar and have fun. Regardless of your needs, Big Fish Grill can accommodate your wishes. While the GF had the misstep with one of her entrees, we would both highly recommend Big Fish Grill. For us, it serves that niche we have been looking to fill: a fantastic fish house that is relatively close by our Wilmington location. If you like fish give Big Fish Grill a try. Big Fish Grill |

Casual but delicious dinner in Wilmington, DE? I almost spit out my scotch when you referred to El Diablo as a "hole-in-the-wall." I get that the place is small and a bit cramped, but when I think of "h-i-t-w" El Diablo doesn't come to mind. That said, it is a fantastic small joint that might just be the ticket for our NYC guests. |

Casual but delicious dinner in Wilmington, DE? Sounds like you want something quick, good and in a decent setting. I don't know when you are traveling, but if you like a really good burger, may I suggest Union City Grille on Union Street in downtown Wilmington? Monday night is half priced burgers. $5.00 gets you a wonderful 8 oz. burger w/cheese and fries. Very nice decor and relaxed atmosphere. We are there most Monday's as the GF loves their burgers. Obviously, any other night and the burgers are $10.00. If you want a little more hip place, why not try Chelsea Tavern on Market Street, again in downtown Wilmington. Casual dining and good food. |

Where can I buy a whole duck in Chester County? Try Highland Orchards Farm Market (302) 478-4042 http://highlandorchardsfarmmarket.com... They sell fresh turkeys and ducks for Thanksgiving/Christmas. Ask for Ruth. |

Where to Find Baking Chocolate: Valrhona, Callebaut, Scharffen Berger (Wilmington, DE) @travelmad478: Online is certainly an option, its just there is something about being able to actually touch/feel the product. @Janssens: Paula, thanks for the quick response. I was in Janssens on Saturday and one of your managers pointed me in the right direction. Callebaut is under a new name and SB is in the large end case. He informed that the distributer for our area is no longer carrying Valrhona! What a shame. @CindyJ: I will be in the Glen Mills area this evening, so I will stop in and investigate. Never thought about the Country Butcher; next time I am there, I will check. Thanks for all the responses. |

Where to Find Baking Chocolate: Valrhona, Callebaut, Scharffen Berger (Wilmington, DE) Any ideas where I can find any of these baking chocolates (or something similar) in the Wilmington area? Already struck out at Janssen's. I'm willing to travel into PA, but would like to avoid Philadelphia if possible. Thank you for any suggestions. |

I'll need to get out there one year and check out the sale. Thanks for the info. |

Are there any gourmet cheese shops in Delaware? You need Edda to take care of you. She is the gray haired german woman with eyeglasses. She is fantastic. Never had a problem with bad cheese, but yes they are overpriced. |

Simba Tropical Grill? (Claymont DE) 1.) HATE the Tri-State Mall. 2.) LOVE the hours. 3.) Interesting menu, although limited. I have never had this cuisine, so I would definitely give it a try. I would be wary though, as it seems SImba turns into a Karaoke Bar/Disco on certain nights (Thu-Sun???). Also, wide screen televisions in the bar could make for a loud dining experience. Having never been, I would certainly pick a Tuesday/Wednesday evening to give Simba a try. I would also contact the restaurant and ask what events are planned for that night, just to be safe. East African comes to northern Delaware. Interesting. Food looks good and sounds interesting. Definitely worth a try. |

Are there any gourmet cheese shops in Delaware? They won't open until the 1st Quarter of 2012. Evidently Whole Foods has a policy of not opening during the 4th Quarter of any year. Whether that is true or not, I cannot verify, but that is what I was told by one of the vendors at Glen Eagle. |

I think for an event like this, it is imperative that you put things away on ice. Way too much chocolate to attempt to eat in any one day. Exactly how does it work though? You purchase tickets/wrist band in advance and this allows you to enter each building and sample their goodies? Sounds like a wonderful event for a chocolate fan. Glad you had fun and a wonderful day. Lititz is a neat little hamlet. It has a real americana feel to it. |

I can't give you any information on the walk, but I did take my father to the Wilbur Chocolate factory this past spring. It's a wonderful museum filed with a lot of history. There is a small section where you can watch the ladies make some of the chocolate confections. They offer free samples and all of their chocolate is for sale. Allow a good 30-45 minutes to enjoy the museum. I would certainly bring a cooler or two for your chocolate. I don't know how much chocolate you want to purchase, but a medium sized cooler should be more than enough. If you are going to use ice, bring along several plastic containers to store the chocolate. Considering that the weather isn't too hot, you might be able to get away without using any ice at all. Enjoy the walk. The Fabulous Bagel Boys located in Pike Creek Shopping Center (next to the KMart) used to have decent to good bagels. Not NYC bagels, but better than those found in the supermarket. They have changed ownership in the last year or so, so I am not sure if they are still as good as I remember. |

Sorry to say shelly, but this place is doomed! If the owner can't get there until one minute before they open, what does that tell you about the place. This guy should just get out of the restaurant biz. |

Food Challenge in Newark DE (University of Delaware) "Cluck-U" was the name of the restaurant. Thanks, CJ. Unfortunately, they are now closed, according to their website. |

Food Challenge in Newark DE (University of Delaware) I want to say the show was on the Travel Channel and it was about the Spicy Chicken WIng place on Main Street. I can't think of the name, but I believe the restaurant is located on the right hand side as you travel down Main Street. ----- |
