Lobster Roll at Spikes - disappointing!

Don't get the lobster bisque at Spike's either, I always stop there for a quart of takeout clam chowder on the way home and it's wonderful but this time I ordered the Lobster bisque and it wasn't great. From what I saw, the food they were serving looked awesome, very large portions and the diners looked happy, but I didn't appreciate the waitress that yelled at me to "watch out" as she came up behind me - "excuse me" usually works just as well! What a crankpot. I was a waitress many summers myself and I would have been fired for yelling at customers! Also the prices were a little outrageous for picnic table dining and no view.

Anyone try Porky's BBQ in morrisville PA yet?

I tried Porky's, the ribs are good, nice smoky flavor, and the owner and staff are nice people. I did not like the sauce however, much too sweet, and the sides were just OK, bordering on NOT OK. Also I prefer ribs that fall off the bone, but that's just me! I will definitely try Porky's again when I need a BBQ fix, also heard Winckler's is closed in the summer because he does a lot of catering then. Also heard a rumor about a new place opening up somewhere in Hamilton?

Winckler's Ribs - Great barbecue joint in Morrisville PA, Trenton NJ area

Oh, I'm sorry, they did taste smoked to me but I'm no expert! I guess maybe the char broil made me think they were smoked. They are great though, I am going to pick up an order tommorrow night and try some other sides - if he can do a great cole slaw I'll be a loyal customer forever! Also would like to try the catfish, I used to live in Dallas and it's an art form there...

Real Barbecue in Central Jersey

Please try Winckler's Ribs in Morrisville PA, if you're located anywhere near the Delaware River. It's at 46 Washington Street, best ribs I ever had and DEFINITELY slow smoked!

Winckler's Ribs - Great barbecue joint in Morrisville PA, Trenton NJ area

I've been looking for great barbecue in the Trenton area for a while now and didn't realize it was right across the river all along! I went to Winckler's Ribs on Washington St. in Morrisville today, it's no frills takeout only - the ribs there blew me away. I got the rib sandwich which was actually four large pork ribs with two slices white bread added as an afterthought. It came with a side of potato salad and some decent corn bread, but the ribs are the thing - just smoky enough, very tender but with a little bite to them and some fabulous vinegar based sauce. It was $ 7.75 which is a bargain, I couldn't even eat all four ribs. They also have a half rack for $11.50, or a whole for $22.75.

Some other things I can't wait to try on the menu are the Tennesee style dry rub Bar-B-Q chicken, comes with potato salad and cornbread for $5.90. Also on the menu are red beans and rice, Andouille sausage sandwich with carmelized onions and cheese, deep fried catfish, fried oysters, jumbo crab cakes, and crispy sour cream and chives potato wedges served with malt vinegar, Jambalaya, fried oysters, I can't list it all.... I think I need to try the chopped pork sandwich next, which he does North Carolina style on a kaiser.

The owner is a great guy who is a classically trained chef and has worked in the area for years. I only wish he hadn't run out of mac and cheese, my 5 year old lives on it, but we will be back to try it next time. Also didn't see brisket on the menu but I don't care, I will be back for more ribs, they are probably the best I've ever had! The other place I have gone for barbecue was the Grub Hut in Manville, NJ which was very good and had great atmosphere, but a little bit of a hike for me. They had great sides and brisket but Winckler's beats them hands down for ribs. You gotta try it!

HELP! Where is good barbecue near Princeton/Trenton?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will try the Grub Hut, Manville is close enough! Off topic, there used to be a country dance place called the Yellow Rose out there, I'm sure it's closed down now like the rest of the "roadhouses" hereabouts! Thanks also for the H I Ribs suggestion, they are OK but overpriced for what you get, don't think they have brisket. I told my husband we should open a place and he said there probably aren't many places with pit barbecue because there's not much space left in Jersey to build a place with a smoker that the neighbors wouldn't complain about! The Front Street Smokehouse sounds interesting too!

Lancaster Jakey's Amish Barbecue

Who knew the Amish made fabulous pit barbecue! Anybody taking the kids to Dutch Wonderland should check this place out, if you want to get away from the fast food and Smorgasbordland that is Route 30. We took my daughter last week and this was the best and most reasonable meal we had! Great brisket and pork, and the barbecue sauce is vinegar based and fabulous. It backs up to a farm, which is picturesque. When you walk in you can go right to the windows and order takeout or get seated in their indoor dining room, or eat outside. Reminded me of the burger and ice cream joints we went to when I was a kid. And they are open Sundays which is not the case for all restaurants in Lancaster. Sandwiches were 7.99 - $8.99. I didn't try the ribs but LOVED the brisket. And there is a kids menu. EVERYTHING is made from scratch there, we loved the potato salad and cole slaw. Wish we had a place like that here in Jersey! It's on Route 30 East on the left hand side, behind the Dutch Haven (it's a big windmill, you can't miss it) about a mile or two past the intersection of 30 and 896. I think they close Labor Day.

Asian grocery near Lambertville/New Hope?

There is a great one on Route 27 in Kendall Park. I live in West Trenton but I make a trip every couple months to load up! It is very large and has fabulous meat and seafood at reasonable prices, and a huge selection. Includes lots of East Indian specialties too. It is very large.

Looking for great bread!

Sorry, on my original post I hit enter by mistake before I could get the post written! I am looking for info on what bakeries supply the restaurants in my area, which is Princeton/Trenton. Someone replied to my second posting to try Italian People's in Trenton, which I will do! Thanks!

Looking for restaurant quality bread near Trenton/Ewing!

Thanks, I do buy kaiser rolls at their location at the Trenton Farmer's Market, but haven't tried the baguette, I definitely will! I also want to try the sourdough rye at the Polish stand at the Farmer's market, I read in these boards that it is great!

Looking for restaurant quality bread near Trenton/Ewing!

Oops, sorry for previous post, I hit enter by mistake before I typed my question! I was at Faherty's on the Delaware a few months back and had the best bread, we couldn't stop eating it! The waiter wouldn't tell me where they get it, but he said they buy it raw or half baked from a local bakery and bake it before service. Is this a common practice? If so, where can I get the same quality bread, in the Trenton area, and will it be just as good in a home oven? Thanks for your input! By the way, we had an amazing dinner there, it is quite a great restaurant! Very casual and comfortable with friendly service and amazing food!
