Lola ducks: Anyone have any experience with one?

I know I can't seem to find it where I am located, north of Boston MA. I am intrigued by what I have read about it though and would like to try cooking one.

Favorite foods for your Bento Box

I just discovered the coolest supermarket I have been in for a long time in Burlington MA. It was mainly Korean but had lots of asian noodles, produce, meat cuts, sauces and condiments as well as frozen food items. I picked up a few items that can be prepared and taken to work in my bento box, like marinated pork butt (Gui, I think), thin sliced ribeye, korean melon, a Korean slaw, fresh veggies of all kinds for sticks. I was wondering if people could share their ideas or recipes of foods that travel nicely in a bento. I have been taking mine to work for a couple of months now and am a little stale on fresh ideas.

Greek Yogurt - are you sure?

I second this post. I found Sophia's about 3 months ago and have been hooked ever since. I have tried to eat store bought Fage since then and it it just not the same. I will keep making the pilgrimage. It is only about 14 miles from my home, so it's worth it.

Anything open in Andover on Sunday night?

There's a great new place on Sutton St North Andover called Buono Bistro. I have eaten there twice with my hubby and we think it is fabulous. It's mainly Italian, but they have a pretty decent menu. The desserts are great too, especially the Limoncello cake. I think they have Capucino also.

Newburyport lunch help

Ditto to The Grog for a decent pub lunch. I have been going there for years and have never had a bad meal there, and many many decent ones. Sometimes this place gets a bad rap for its drinking crowd, but the food is always good.

What do you do with a Balsamic Glaze

These all sound wonderful. Can't wait to try some of them.

What do you do with a Balsamic Glaze

About a month ago, I purchased a bottle of Balsamic Glaze of Modena, and have become addicted to the stuff. I have also learned that it is quite easy to make and I could have saved myself the money. Nonetheless, I have tried it on fresh strawberries, and made a killer pork tenderloin with mushrooms and dried cranberries. I'd like to hear more suggestions on using it. It seems to really bring out the flavor in foods.

Where to buy skate wing

Thanks for all of the great replies. I will try Lobster Tail first since they are the closest and post back.

Where to buy skate wing

I live in the Merrimack Valley but willing to travel into the Boston area or North Shore. I am looking for a fish market that sells skate wing on the bone. Have a recipe I would like to try.

Lawrence Chicken "Que" sandwich

Believe it or not, it is really easy to make at home. I use a crockpot, chicken broth and boneless chicken breast. Cook for about 6 hours, strain with a slotted spoon onto a bun and enjoy. It tastes just like the real thing. I used to get them as a child at Cantys Kitchen.

LuLu Restaurant Blood Orange Marmalade By Mail - Exquisite

That sounds absolutely delicious. I will visit the site today. Great idea with the yogurt.

$1 oysters at The Grog

Just read in a summer preview magazine for the Newburyport area that The Grog will have $1 oysters every day. We go there for their chowder, which is the best around IMHO, but this sounds like a great deal. Anyone had Grog's oysters yet? I am wondering if they have several varieties to offer.

Great chow in Lawrence

I'd like to add that Arthur's Corner Pizzeria at 1060 Osgod St in North Andover has great fried chicken. I usually go the the bodega, Jacqueline's, but have been going to Arthurs lately. Really tasty. I like their salads as well.

Route 2 Foliage trip

My Hubby and I will be taking a drive on route 2 from Concord to Shelburne Falls on Wednesday for a little fall foliage and hopefully some memorable side trips to fun places along the way. My interests are: a great cup of coffee, not flavored or fancy, just fresh brewed. On a side note, I have decided to start roasting my own coffee at home, so, if anyone knows where I can purchase green coffee beans along the way, that would be fantastic. Secondly, local cheesemakers and third, an interesting lunch stop: good burgers, home grown produce, interesting menu etc. Lastly, something to bring home - maybe a great bakery or some cider donuts at a local farm.
thanks,
Nancy

Not-to-be-missed Food Festivals?

Two in Massachusetts that have both food and lots of music and activities:
Lowell Folk Festival in Lowell MA - food from all over the world as well as stages set up for music, again from many different countries. Held in late July.
Yankee Homecoming Festival in Newburyport MA - one week packed with food, drink and lots of fun things to do. Great seafood also. All of the area restaurants come outside and serve their best fare. Held every year last week of July.

North End with patio dining?

Thanks for the suggestions. Fiore's menu looks nice, as does Mother Anna's. Forgot to mention we both love Mussels too. The prices all seem to be reasonable at the one's I have looked into so far.

North End with patio dining?

Hi. I feel a little bit stupid asking this since I have lived in MA my whole life. My sister is coming from North Carolina to visit in early October and we would both like a pleasurable, possibly outdoor North End dining experience that is not outrageously expensive. Neither of us is into red sauce and both love fish and seafood but don't need to be limited by it. My first thoughts were Taranta because it sounds interesting with the Peruvian influence, and Giacomo because we can get a choice of sauce with entrees. Not sure if either of these places has patio dining, but that would be lovely on a nice crisp October evening. May I get some feedback on these two places as well as any other suggestions that might fit what we are looking for?
thanks!

Skirt Steak north of Boston?

Anyone know of a Butcher Shop North of Boston where I can purchase Skirt Steak for the grill?

Ten Center Street Newburyport

My hubby and I went to Ten Center Street in Newburyport on Wednesday night. It was the first time I had been back to the restaurant since the early 80's, so there were a lot of changes and some nice surprises. We ate upstairs, which is nicely decorated in old exposed brick and beams with copper tables, which I thought was a nice touch. The room we were in was big and airy with the tables not too close together. A bit dark though. I had to break out a mini flashlight for Bill to read the menu! Our waitress was thorough and very attentive. For starters, they brought crusty bread with pumpkin spice butter and curried lobster bisque "shooters", which were nice and hot and yummy. I got spicy mussels for appetizer with cheesy toast points, I think parmesan, and I have to say that it was very nicely done. There were more than enough mussels for 2 people to share and the broth was delicious. Not too spicy, just enough. They were about $10 I think. Bill got a lobster bisque, no curry, which came in a big bowl, so the appetizers were plentiful. My meal was a piece of halibut (possibly cooked on a wood plank, because it tasted wood smoked). It sat on a bed of roasted corn, potatoes, peas and chili sauce which blended together nicely. Bill had a ribeye steak. Steak was delicious but overpriced in my opinion. It came with broccolini and smashed potatos. We were too full for dessert, but I had a nice liquor and coffee which was called the hammock - banana liquor, kahlua and something else. Their wines were reasonable, about $7-10 a glass. Didn't check the bottle prices because hubby doesn't drink. One more note: We went over to a cute little irish pub later about 2 blocks away called Rosie O'Sheas. They have a great beer selection and great prices, with a 20 oz draft costing only $4.75. Lots of irish beers on draft too. The place got a little roudy around 9:30 but was a lot of fun. Lots of irish stews and shepherd pie type food on the menu. We will have to try it for dinner soon. All in all, I would visit both of these places again soon.

Chicken Pesto Pizza??

I live north of Boston but am willing to go into the city for a huge craving of mine. Can anyone recommend a place that serves chicken pesto pizza? I have searched high and low in the Merrimack Valley area with no luck.
