Izakaya help

That is weird. Usually i get pretty decent service at Guu. I would suggest that you could always try a different guu.
Guu Aberdeen is probably more comfortable seating if your parents are a bit older. Parking is easy as it is part of the mall.
Guu Garden.. i haven't gone but heard their patio is quite nice
Guu Gastown. Its upstairs, larger than guu garlic and i think overall nicer
Guu thurlow... its small and cramp but i like this one the best.... LOL.. strange..
Guu Robson.. you can always try again.

Other great restaurants for your fam to try out.
Hapa Kitts
Hapa Robson
Gyoza King (this is my default place...)
Zakkusi is more of a robata restaurant but still pretty good.

GOOOOOOOOOOD LUCK :D
I personall think your fam would enjoy Hapa.. its a bit more upscale and great for hosting dinners.

looking for just one; it has to be "the one"

i also say blue water or Coast.

If you had a few more meals... i would definately say bridges for drinks on the patio.

Early morning arrival (and Japadog question!)

I don't think japadog will be opened that early. Is your hotel downtown? For breakfast..i would say cafe medina would be a great start to your vacay in vancouver. :)

dinner recommendations for vancouver for 30 yo lone traveler?

Any of the izakaya restaurants would be great.. you can dine right at the bar... Guu, Kingyo, Happa, Ebisu (Robson), etc...

Santouka Ramen is a personal favourite spot for ramen. I rarely eat alone but would definitely eat ramen alone.

Does anyone know if Sung Tung Kee Hot Pot Restaurant is still open?

From what i remember, it has recently closed down (i think maybe within the last 6 months). A good alternative would be Cattle Hot Pot just 2 plazas away.

My favorite hotpot restaurant these days is a Fat Cow Hot Pot (i think that is the name)... it's located on Victoria and 25th avenue or something? Sorry if i am not much help.

Baked Tapioca Pudding

Anyone have a recipe for baked tapioca pudding? I am talking about the asian style where there is red bean paste in the middle. I've googled everywhere and lots of recipes do not work.

Thanks in Advance.. :)

Best Burger in Vancouver - what's your vote?

I've recently had a burger from five guys and thought it was a great burger. Simple, moist, and well seasoned.

Another great choice would be the guiness burger at three lions.

Make Dec 25th to 31st a culinary success!

Ramen Santouka like what others said... but if it was closed.. i would have to say Kintaro would be the next best thing..

Yoshoku-ya (a few steps away from Kintaro) is also a nice change. Real Japanese Comfort Food.

You can't say you've been to Vancouver without trying one of our izakaya joints. I suggest Gyoza King, Guu on Robson or Garlic, and perhaps Ebisu ???

The Place Restaurant serves up really affordable and delicious Shanghai Food.

Phnom Penh will also please all. Or hit up Bao Chao for the bestest spring rolls !!

Good flat-bottomed wok ?

I've found some pretty cheap flat bottom woks at homeware (Fraser St. and 45th Ave). They are always on sale so you can check their website.
