Have to say my sentiments are similar. I'm sorry he's being forced to move, but yay Woburn! That's much more convenient for me.

Falafel in Reading/Wakefield area

On main street Wakefield there is a pizza shop called "My Brother's Place." In addition to pizza they have falafel (and a few other things like grape leaves and kebab wraps). No frills, but in the area, and that's where I go if I have a craving for falafel.

Teresa's Prime in North Reading?

The Teresa's Prime has been open for a week or so now. Anyone been yet? The menu looks yummy, but I would rather get some intel before going.

Thanksgiving disaster!

Wow. Just, wow. My sympathies. I have a lot of experience with my own pushy MIL (including my own worst Thanksgiving ever but it's unrelated to food prep so I won't go into it here). If your account is accurate she either deliberately sabotaged your turkey or she had absolutely no faith in your abilities to do things. Neither reflects well on her. And she didn't "save the day." She was the one who messed up in the first place!

My advice? Next year, don't let her in the kitchen. Period. If she brings stuff that needs to "crisp" tell her to give you the instructions and you can do it yourself. Be insistent. If she offers to help let her know that you would rather not have a miscommunication like last year. If it were my own MIL I wouldn't be as polite.

Dairy-free snacks for my little Goldfish lover

I have not tried these, but I've been told that the "Original Tings" by Pirate brands taste like cheetos and are vegan. Not sure where to find them in the area but I know you can get them online.

Stir Fried Kimchi at HMart

I absolutely love trying out all the different types of kimchi at my local HMart. Question for all you experts out there. There is a napa cabbage kimchi labeled "Stir Fried Kimchi". Is that exactly what it sounds like or is that an English description for something different?

Fresh Made Juices

I'm pretty sure it's outside your 8 mile radius, but I like the fresh squeezed juice drinks at the Sol Bean Cafe in Middleton...it's very close to the Richardson's so you can have ice cream too

Davio's, Lynnfield

Wow. I suppose I should have been more careful using the "C" word...Davio's has locations in Atlanta and Philly...it's a chain. I will admit, though, as a chain it is smaller than Capitol or Ruth Chris. I don't think that it's a chain is a bad thing. The restaurant is worth visiting if one has the budget. The food I had was good. In terms of atmosphere I felt it was more like the Ruth Chris I've been in rather than Pellana, which is why I used that as an example. I will stand firm, though, that the steak I had was good, but my husband does better when he buys ribeyes from our local butcher and grills them on his green egg...which gets plenty hot to do a proper searing job.

Why No Men in TV Yogurt Commercials?

LOL. I had the exact same thought! Burn Notice is oftentimes one big advertisement on the virtues of yogurt.

Davio's, Lynnfield

I went opening weekend for dinner. I've never been to the one in Boston, so I cannot compare but my husband and I liked it. We really enjoyed the lobster risotto. The steak was well prepared, though not the most spectacular I've had... My husband and I are picky about steak though as he grills a really great one at home. We had a panna cotta for dessert which was heavenly. Service was very attentive.

In terms of pros and cons, it's a chain...a high end chain, but still a chain. That does not bug me as much as it bugs other people. However, I would put it in the same category as Capitol Grille and Ruth Chris.

Anything good to eat at Market St. Lynnfield?

To be fair, I don't put the chains in the Lynnfield Market St are of a different caliber than places at say, a typical mall. There's a Davios, which is a chain but a nice one. Besito will be open soon. Both get fairly good reviews on Yelp. There other chains which I haven't tried before. So, yes, if you are dead set against chains then Market St won't be for you but I'm glad to have the additional food options near me.

As of the moment, only Davio's, Starbucks, and Whole Foods (which has a food bar, fresh pizza/sandwiches/burritos made to order, etc) is open. I think the others are opening in the next months with the exception of Fugakyu which is next year.

September 2013 Openings and Closings

The new "Marketplace" open air shopping center in Lynnfield is finally open. Not everything is open yet (I would say maybe 40% of the stores are open) but the Whole Foods and Davio's definitely are. There's going to be at least half a dozen restaurants in the area when all is said and done...most of the stores that are not opening this weekend are opening in September.

Here's a link to the eateries that will be there: http://www.marketstreetlynnfield.com/...

Looking for a reuben north of Boston

I'm craving a Reuben but have no wish to travel into Boston. Are there any delis/restaurants that have them on the menu north of Boston? Somewhere in the vicinity of Wakefield/Reading/North Reading would be preferable...

This is a great list. I wholeheartedly recommend Habesha if you are in the area. Yum.

I find it interesting you recommend Ritu Ki Rasoi. I don't have much experience with the place, but have access to it on occasion. What do you like there?

ISO Ice cream stands where kiddie size does not mean a scoop the size of a baby's head

I had to laugh at this while I wholeheartedly agreed! My family was at Richardson's and split a single kiddie scoop between my husband, I, and our two kids...whenever I order one I always think,"Whose kids actually eat that much ice cream?"

Question, is this phenomenon common throughout the country or just the Boston area?

It's been a while since I've been to one, but I recall the ice cream scoops at Tosci's to be a reasonable size...and they have interesting flavors to boot.

Bottled Water. Yay/Nay ?

Another vote for no/not usually. Tap water in America is perfectly safe and fine for people to drink. I have a reusable Camelbak bottle for drinking on the go. Given the questions people have on plastic leaching into the water, I feel safer as well.

The only time I drink is if I'm past the checkpoint of an airport, or I run out of water and I'm not near a non-bathroom faucet.

Which Strawberry Festival to go to?

Hi folks -

My kids and I love to go strawberry picking and we are planning on hitting one of the many strawberry festivals happening this weekend on the North Shore. Connors Farm, Marini Farm, and Russell Orchards are all holding them this weekend. Last year my family went to the one in Connor's Farm and had a blast, though it was super packed (to be expected). Any opinions on which one I should attend?

Fred' Franks Wakefield

Nothing says spring like Fred's Franks! On nice spring days you can eat your dog on the lake and just enjoy the weather.

The dogs are cooked on a big green egg and I'm glad that Carl is keeping the quality up after buying the business from Fred.

Afterwards you can mosey on over to the Gingerbread Construction Company for a dessert muffin...

Anyone tried Prime Roast Beef and Brick Oven Pizza on 114 Danvers?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm not a super onion ring fan, so I nibble on them but don't pay attention really. There's a picture of them in the photo album of their Facebook page if that helps... ( uploaded so you don't have to hunt for it...)

Anyone tried Prime Roast Beef and Brick Oven Pizza on 114 Danvers?

I live not too far from here and get there on a regular basis. I'm not a connoisseur of sandwiches but I really enjoy theirs. A good amount of roast beef with lots of different toppingsto choose from. My only issue is that when I order it "three way" (cheese, BBQ, and mayo) they use too much mayo but they are happy to cut back if you ask. Their fries are always crispy and the baskets come with lots of fries and onion rings...enough that we generally just order one basket and split the fries amongst my husband and I.

I only had their pizzas once. I don't remember what i ordered, but remember it was good. Crispy crust and good toppings. They have a nice salad selection as well.

My kids generally have the chicken strips or the grilled cheese and they day both.

In summary, I think it's worth visiting. Afterwards you can go to the yogurt bar next door for dessert...

Phuket in Wakefield is now Open

I have to say, my first reaction to this restaurant when I first heard of it was, "What ANOTHER Thai restaurant in Wakefield?" However, my husband and I have had two lunches here so far and both have been spectacular.

Today we had the Phuket wings - very crispy and a sauce with the right balance of sweet, sour, and spice for me.

We both got lunch boxes which are a great lunch deal. We both like the soup that comes with it. Light broth and nicely seasoned. My husband got the pork chop and Ferrari328 got the description perfect. Tender, bone-in with just enough fat to be a little naughtly. My husband loved it. I got the BBQ chicken which was a chicken breast sliced and topped with peanut sauce. Also very enjoyable.

Service was very attentive without being overly so and our food was relatively quick - we were in and out in under an hour.

Oh, and outside seating was available today. Yay Spring!

Definitely on our regular list now!
