German choc cake in Oakland/Berkeley?

I was deep into exploring this restaurant when I remembered that the "German" refers to a person's last name, not the country. However, the restaurant is something I would really like to try, so thanks for the heads-up.

German choc cake in Oakland/Berkeley?

i am eating the Whole Foods version right now. It is really a devil's food cake with the pecan coconut caramel filling. It is 't hitting the spot which is why I checked this thread. I like the old time type with the lighter cake. I will try the Toot Sweets version.

Can a Le Creuset 3.5 qt brasier be used as a gratin pan?

Thanks everyone!

Well, here is more info which I should have out in the original post. I also have 2 round FO (2 & 5.5 qt) and a 6.75 oval. 2 weeks ago, I bought a 1 qt gratin which I almost returned. Yesterday, I
made a gratin intending tonuse the larger and realized that 1 qt will probably meet my needs most of the time. I live alone, so even for fish, between the 1 qt gratin and the 3.5 qt buffet, I am probably fine w/o the larger gratin pan.

I got over excited when I was able to get both for $230, but that is still alot of money.

Blondelle, I am an avid follower of your Le Creuset posts, and like you, I am a color junkie. The gratin pan is deadly Dune, but I decided it wasn't such a bad color for a gratin pan, and one of the LC outlet people pointed out that Dune does a really good job of showing off the colors of the food. I have filled up the area where my LC can be displayed anyway, so I figured, why not.

Can a Le Creuset 3.5 qt brasier be used as a gratin pan?

I just bought a risootto pan in red, 40% off from the LC outlet in Vacaville. That is the pan I went to the outlet for, but while I was there, I got a #36 cast iron au gratin pan, also 40% off. I already own a 3.5 qt braisier. Will the bottom of that pan work equally well for gratins? Should I return the gratin pan?

Help me identify this Le Creuset oven please!

I just bought one of these at the outlet for 40% off! I travelled for an hour just to get it. i decided on this over the larger buffet pan. I used my 40% off coupon and it was still $138, so you probably got a great deal. I think it will be really good for cut up chicken, braised short ribs, etc. It has a large surface area and enough depth for braising, and its lighter than the 5.5 qt buffet. IThis is my fifth le creuset pot. For a whole braised chicken, I usually use the 6.75 oval roaster.

Three foods I miss in NY

Just reaized how old this thread was. The donut shop was Colonial Donuts. I used to go there at 2am for hot fresh chocolate old fashioned donuts. There is still a Colonial on Lakeshore, but they are no longer open 24 hrs.

HB, I confess that probably don't really need the oval, but I bought it to cook whole chickens and short ribs. Its good for longer pieces. The idea with these overs (as I understand) is to get as snug a fit as possible without crowding. You also can use parchment to get this affect, at least by height. I learned that after I got "All About Braising". I kind of got out of control after I bought my first piece because after years of being a sub-par cook, my food tasted really good.

Your favorite Le Creuset color

Right after I wrote my last post, I went to the Le Creuset outlet in Vacaville, CA. I couldn't believe the prices. I ended up getting a 3.5 buffet casserole/brasier in Flame and a 6.75 oval in Indigo (35% off because it was a retired Williams Sonoma) for about $250 after the discount. I'm thinking of changing the indigo for the carribean one.

I was really impressed with their service. They were friendly and made sure that I was getting good pieces.

I agree with what you said about the kiwi. When I looked online, the color was beautiful. But in the outlet, it seemed kind of drab.

I just got my first LC dutch oven (5.5 qt) in Cassis. I love it, but now, I want something in Flame. The addiction has just begun!
