I have to disagree STRONGLY with that. The Royal Mail is better than any other restaurant in Australia in my humble opinion. Loam is very good but definitely not as creative. And what did you drink at Loam? A nice Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir? I'd rather spend a bit more and enjoy the Royal Mail's list...

Melbourne Recommendations

In Melbs I would do:
- Attica everything but Tuesday night
- Flower Drum
- Cumulus Inc (breakfast and/or lunch)
- Huxtable
- Embrasse
- Cutler & Co.
- Anada or Movida (the original)

+ Don't miss Der Raum for a drink

Also rent a car and go to Loam and, most importantly, THE ROYAL MAIL!!

Enjoy

le chateaubriand - do they ever actually answer the phone?

It's too early to book for April anyway, you need to call 2 weeks ahead

Ms.G's [Sydney]

Thanks Phil!

Oh how I would have loved a Neil Perry / Kylie Kwong team :)
I did not know it was that at all, should have been awesome!
I really love Ms G's, I'm actually going back (again) tonight.
Dan and Jow both have a lot of talent that's for sure!
But they're both very young, so lots of time to see them shine even more.
Take care, JAA

Ms.G's [Sydney]

Hey,

Well my post was deleted because I put a link to my tumblr with all the pics.
I am a bit new to that, so did not know.
When were you there?
I think you're thinking about this place the wrong way.
It's not meant to be fine dining, even though Dan definitely has the talent to do so, in a cool atmosphere.
It's supposed to be a super cool and trendy restaurant packed every night where you can actually enjoy the food. Remember it's Merivale after all, they're not only here for the sake of great food, but also to make money out of it. And they know how to!

3 days, 3 nights in Paris - help me choose?

I am French, so no problem for me, but just experience looking at people asking for the "vin carte" or this kind of stuff when every Waiter knows what a wine list is...
Especially when you call to book, don't try and pretend you speak French if you don't, usually people who pick up the phone speak english...

Yeah 33 01 is wrong
And 8.30 is a bad time, call at 6.
Try and never call during service,, they usually never pick up ( this works at every restaurant in Paris basically

Corton, wd-50 or Lincoln Ristorante?

Thanks to all for your help.
I ended up booking WD and Lincoln.
Will keep Corton as a backup - and I'm now also tempted by Degustation!
So new question, Corton or Degustation :)
Merci

The "vin carte" ? That's exactly what i'm talking about above... Drop that and you'll be the laughingstock of the whole resto ;) Say wine list please.

Tokyo - Sushi Kanesaka or Sushiko Honten?

Hey guys,

Any advice in order to decide between these two?
It's for a Sunday night, and I narrowed it to these two.
I heard they have a great atmosphere, less formal than the other michelin starred sushi places in town...
Thanks in advance for your help!

Guys I'm French, my fiancee is Australian, I can tell you that in restaurants they don't like people why try to speak French when they obviously are not fluent.
Most of them would rather speak to you in English, they usually like tourists, that means they're popular out of France.
But then maybe you know better...

La Petite Maison NYC

Hello all,

Any idea on the opening date or something?

It was supposed to open in September I think, but can't seem to see anything coming...

Thanks in advance!

The French hate English speaking people who try to speak French but if you stick to English - and don't even drop a "bonjour" - you'll be fine ;)
I have Aussie friends who don't speak a word of French and had a great time at l'ami Jean this summer, they said the staff was great.

Thanks a lot for your replies. Yeah I'm not sure about Lincoln either... Might be a bit early.
Anyway I might have trouble getting a booking in one of the three, that might make the decision easier :)

Hibiscus or The Ledbury?

I am staying in Covent Garden, but location doesn't really matter to tell you the truth.
I was gonna go for dinner anyway. I like that Claude Bosi used to work at L'Arpege, which might be my favorite restaurant in the world :)
But then it would be cool to try the Aussie chef's food at The Ledbury, as I live in Sydney...
Thanks for your answer ;)

You should try and get into Le Baratin, L'Ami Jean, Le Bistrot Paul Bert, Le Verre Vole, La Regalade... They are some of the best bistrots in town, and really quintessentially Paris!!

The service is a bit casual I agree, but Dan's food is really amazing, and many places don't have great service and still have a hat...

Hibiscus or The Ledbury?

Hey Guys!

I will be in London for a couple days in November, and would like to go to one of these 2.
Which one would you go to?
Also, is the wine list very expensive at Hibiscus or not? I like the look of the wine list of The Ledbury...
I haven't been to any of them, so I have a true open mind.
Thanks in advance!

Corton, wd-50 or Lincoln Ristorante?

Dear all,

I am spending a bit more than a week in NYC in November, and I have chosen almost all the restaurants I wanna go to. However, I have only 2 nights to go to these 3, so which one would you leave behind?
I haven't been to any of them...
Thanks in advance for your help!

Jonathan

P.S. My other dinners will be Beef 7 ways at Ma Peche, Bo ssam at Ssam Bar, Per Se, Babbo, Roberta's, Torrisi and hopefully Momofuku Ko if I can get a booking :)

The real failure is to forget Lotus, which deserves one hat for sure! You should check out their new menu, it's off the hook... And that burger, wow.
