dining options for a group on Fremont Street

The steak house in El Cortez (as opposed to the other restaurant in the facility) is very good. My husband and I ate there last December. The room quite large and can get noisy as the evening goes on. They have a piano player. I think prices are slightly higher than the $20, but the steaks we had were cooked to perfection. We're going back to Vegas next week and plan to eat there again. Reservations will be a must for a group as large as yours.

Jackson Hole

We just got back from Jackson, Wy yesterday. We had a wonderful meal at a fairly new place called Local. It's right on Jackson Square on the northwest side. Owned by the same people who own Trio, it is distinguished by the black river rock on the outside. It was very casual but you may not think so looking at it. It's not the rustic-looking facade one expects in Jackson. My husband and I were dressed in shorts and collared shirts. They have an inviting bar area as well. Nice looking crowd.

All their beef is sourced locally, within a few miles of Jackson; just over the Idaho border or in southern Montana. I had the filet mignon (wonderful outside char/perfect med. rare center), sauteed heirloom tomatoes with roasted garlic, creamed spinach and shared scalloped potatoes with cheddar. All excellent. I accompanied this with a glass of luscious (and relatively new) Jackson Hole Winery Rendezvous Red (grapes from CA). The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. All together we spent $121 and it was worth every penny IMO. It was the best meal I had in two weeks in Wyoming.

Gnarly Head

Gnarley Head Old Vine Zin is an excellent wine for the $. An excellent everyday wine and then some. Right now in Ohio I've found it at $8.99 a bottle. Bargain.

Best Italian Sausage

WOW - I did a google search on Fiaccos only to find them on Bleeker Street! Perfect. That works for me. Not only that but have you seen the photo? A masterpiece. I hope it tastes as good as it looks. The ratings are pretty awesome also so it's definitely worth a shot.

As for Whole Food, I wonder if now that they've acquired Wild Oats (in our area) if the sausage will be the same - probably not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Don't stop the suggestions, though, I appreciate the input. Thanks.

Best Italian Sausage

I will be in Manhattan in a few weeks. I am in search of really, really good Italian sausage to take home to Cincinnati (a place where great Italian is nonexistent). Hot, sweet, other flavors. Any recommendations? Have transportation if I absolutely must leave the island to find. Thanks.

Cincinnati area - good Italian sausage?

Any recommendations on where I can find some really good Italian sausage? I've tried Jungle Jim's and a few places at Findlay Market, but so far none can compare to the sausage I get when I visit back home in New York.

Food and Wine Festivals

If you could go to one food and wine festival in the USA, which one would it be and why. Aspen, South Beach, New Orleans? Any others worth the expense?
