Bar Habour and Southwest Habour - creative and unpretentious dining

Hadn't heard of McKays before. We'll have to give it a try when we're up there this September. Thanks!

Tilted Kilt

HA! One opened up near us recently, and I had the same impression from the website...well Scotish Hooters. Boring ordinary menu, too, it appears. We won't be bothering...

I think Cafe This Way meets your requirements. We're enjoyed numerous meals there,

"No Sugar" Hellman's Mayo - ?

That olive oil Mayo lists sugar on the ingredient list, and tastes like miracle whip to me.

Help finding a ubiquitous cocktail for a booze hater

Campari and orange juice is my favorite not-too-alchoholic tasting drink, and it's a little more interesting than a screwdriver. I HATED the one negroni I've tried...tasted VERY alchoholic to me.

Yes, you can sear frozen scallops

Just saying...

Separating pasteurized eggs

I must have separated pasturized eggs, because I remember having a heck of a time whipping the whites, but don't remember great difficulty separating them.

Bag lunches for adults

+1 That's how I bring lunch to work. We have a fridge, but it's so nasty I refuse to put anything in it.

Looking for a wall pot rack

Thanks! We're really happy the grid thing fell through. This has so much more character.

Can you help me find...

An Everlasting Meal. Cooking with Economy and Grace. By Tamar Adler

Rye bread using yeast vs. a sourdough starter?

Depends on the type of rye bread you are making, but generally speaking, yes.

Chocolate mint cookies or bars needed? Something with crushed candy cane maybe...

I make these every year. Highly recommend.

non-yeasted pizza dough

How about keeping some "real" pizza dough in the freezer for emergencies?

For Apricot Lovers --

I love this Caramel Apricot Sauce:

and if you use 1 cup of water instead of 4, you have an awesome caramel apricot butter.

Anyone Ever "Brûlée" Panna Cotta?

I think panna cotta would be more susceptible to heat then custard...

Help! Why did my ganache turn out watery/oily?

All the recipes I've seen call for heating cream, then pouring it over chopped (not melted) chocolate. Recipes often say to set aside and not stir for 10 minutes. That procedure has always worked perfectly for me.

Thanksgiving Pie---When are you actually baking it?

I bake pumpkin and pecan pies Wednesday night, have for years. I put the dough I make and refrigerated Saturday in the pans last night and put them in the freezer.

Not something I want to worry about on Thursday, and the less then 24 hours between baking and eating works out fine. I store the baked pies in the garage if it's cold enough, fridge if not.

Pie Crust Help

I'd go so far as saying it improves pie dough to make it ahead and refrigerate.

Storing Homemade Scones?

Yes, freeze. We like to thaw them in the microwave, then put them in a 350 oven for 3-4 minutes. Almost as good as fresh-baked.

Mini lobster rolls

Buttered and toasted white-bread rounds.

Dining along driving route

We were just in Scotland (and ate at 3 Chimneys_AWESOME!) We used Google directions, too and found they didn't quite account for Scottish roads. Most drives took longer than expected. Hope you are spendind a few days on Skye!

Pumpkin lasagna recipe?

Sorry Bertheenia, I don't know what COMT stands for? The Squash and Hazelnut recipe I posted a link to is from 2001!

Pumpkin lasagna recipe?

I've made this version fron Epicurious, it's terrific! I'm sure you could use pumpkin, too, although I like butternut better in things like this.

1% instead of whole milk?

No problem at all. I wouldn't even bother changing the ratio.

squeeze bottle noodles

Don't know the recipe you're referring to, but I do spatzle kinda the same way, using a ziplock bag with a corner cut of. "Pipe" into boiling salted water, very fast and easy.

Pizza in Glasgow

Thanks! I appreciate your reply.!

Pizza in Glasgow

By the time we get to Glasgow, we'll have been in Scotland for 10 days, enjoying seafood and other local foods, and, knowing us, we'll be dying for pizza!

Where's a good place to go, evening meal?

Food in the vicinity of Nairn, Scotland

We'll be staying in Nairn for 2 nights in a few weeks, and I get the impression the area is kind of a wasteland food-wise. Hopefully somebody can disprove this theory!

Mostly looking for simple but tasty dinner spots. One day we'll be driving from the Dufftown area, if that helps.

King of Prussia-Malvern area Recommendations?

Thanks for reporting back! Glad you liked our recommendations.
