What favorite food is such a labor of love, time, technique or even money that rarely make it but when you do…

As OP I can say that I am not looking for shortcuts. I love my end results as do my friends and family. The "labor of love" is worth it anc probably what makes it so good is that special-ness.

I could buy fresh pasta, take short cuts with my beef Wellington or go out for Peking Duck. Sometimes I do but it's just not the same.

You swoon as do those who you deign to share it. The don't to be classical french or fussy or involve things like sous vide but meals that you that you love making but don't often get the time and attention to make.

The top ones that come to mind are my homemade, hand rolled meat or cheese stuffed tortellini.

Lasagne Bolognese

What's for Dinner #218: National Salad Month

I ended up nuking a big old russet potato and then sticking into a 500 degree oven for 10 minutes to crisp up the skin. Slathered it with butter and sriracha. It was just what I needed.
The guys scrounged for leftovers and gave me a wide birth, LOL. now I am off to bed.

Thanks everyone!

Head on shrimp?

The dish I look forward to the most when heading to chinatown is salt and pepper shrimp. Crispy fried, head and shells on and very hot and spicy. I eat the whole thing, heads and all.

What's for Dinner #218: National Salad Month

Lousy day at the office and then come home to find out I must dreamed I took the tri-tip out of the freezer. <head slap>

So WFD?? I have no idea. The meat was vacu-sealed so I have it sitting in cold weather bath with the hopes it will defrost before I resort to having an omelet. I can always throw together some pasta or a kitchen sick frittata but my get up and go got up and went. I am cranky and uninspired.

RIP Dixie. So sorry Rox. Hope you are holding up.

The Ten Most Annoying Habits of Fellow Diners.

I get it if you don't eat meat but the OP said they liked seafood, ordered a steak and then didn't eat it.

What would YOU do?

Yuck!

The worst is when you could still smoke! In a flight from JFK to Rome the male stews smoke liked chimneys and wore mass amounts of cologne. Nasty!

Enough with the 'green juice'!!!

I used red and orange beets, no beet greens. I tried them raw as well as steam roasted.(wrapped in tin foil, 375 oven)

Fresh ginger

I truly don't understand this. Are you saying that a person who *likes* seafood orders steak for what? Spite? Martyrdom? A then doesn't eat it, basically throwing away good money and going hungry?

Can you give another example of a variation on this theme?

Color me confused.

What would YOU do?

So why is any food ok on a plane if so many people are sensitive to smells in confined spaces? To me nothing is nastier than the smell of those flavored tortilla chips they hand out or the sun chips. And the hot meals they serve on international flights are pretty nasty smelling too. Heck on those flights some of the people smell worse than the food!

<<Please bring something else. And yes, you can definitely smell it in the refrigerator.>>

Too late- I can't go back and change time, lol

exactly! I made the mistake of dining at Panera lately and ordered their asian chicken salad. The amount of dressing was disgusting, there was a pool of it in the bottom that was at least a 1/4 cups worth. Thankfully they took it back and replaced it with an undressed one but they gave me FOUR containers of dressing "on the side". Four?? yuck. I barely used half of one.

It does exist and you right to continue dreaming of the one in the movie, LOL. Not horrible but nothing great either. And you are surrounded by multiple screens playing the movie in a giant loop. There are some things you don't want your 6 year old to hear and see.

Not sure where you are but if you have local asparagus you could make an asparagus and gruyere one. Yummy!

What would YOU do?

Absolutely they have a distinctive aroma! But stinky *to me* means very strong and unpleasant. I don't think of it as such when it’s in a sandwich form. It not something I associate with being bowled over by, even when someone I am dining with orders it. I have never heard anyone say “OMG who ordered corn beef, or Who put corn beef in the fridge” they way they do when someone micro’s curry or make tuna fish in our work pantry.

Frankenstein's Menu

They either want her business or they don't. She's a "regular" and this is her "regular" way of ordering. If the chef and staff don't like it they should have stopped it long ago.

At this point the owner(s) has to weigh if the risk of losing this one diner is worth it so that chef can stand on principle. In many places it is. If that's the case then lose the diner and institute a strict new policy. Otherwise grin and bare it.
