Passover recipes
For those of us who do not keep kosher, but do our own version of kosher for Passover, we can cook in advance and freeze. The fact that my mother had 30 people or so, changed dishes for Passover, cooked and baked everything on her own including home made gefilte fish, makes me even more in awe of her.
I freeze brisket, and kugels.
For brisket, I cook it, then let it cool completely in the refrigerator over night, and slice it before freezing it.
For kugels, this year I am making spinach/noodle, sweet farfel, and vegetable (which will be a mixture of grated carrots, zucchini, and whatever else I decide to throw in). I may make and freeze a mushroom and onion farfel stuffing.
I try to vary my chicken dish, and sometimes freeze that as well. This year I am going to make a version of Chicken Scapariello.
Favorite Long Island Restaurants
Yes, but the service at MP Taverna is horrible. I found it bad when we went to dinner there with 4 people. Last week I was there for a "ladies night out" function. If they do that kind of thing, and the service is horrible, it is a reflection on the restaurant. The service was a joke. the 2 appetizer choices were a soup, and a salad. They served 3 of us the soup. 15 minutes later they brought the other person the salad? You have to think twice about the kitchen's ability to get food out if this happens. Dinner entrees were served in a similar manner.
RUB BBQ East Meadow No longer
I think you have to read the article again, and maybe change your title. It is not saying that RUB is no more, it is saying that it has split from the original owner, and the pitmasters are the same.
Garden City
NCC is off Stewart Ave., right off the Meadowbrook, so there are a lot of closer restaurants than going over to Franklin Ave. As far as reasonable though, that depends on what you are expecting, but here are a few:

www.cafebacirestaurant.com
I don't have a link to Akbar, but if you google it, you will find it.
There are also all sorts of chain places within a 1 mile radius or less - Applebee's, Chili's, Houston's, Grand Luxe Cafe, Bertucci's, Friday's, Legal Seafood. I hate to really recommend all of these, but sometimes that is what you might be looking for.
LL Dent is on the other side of Roosevelt Field Mall, so also a good choice. There are loads of restaurants on Franklin. Waterzooi has great mussels, but is extremely noisy. Grimaldi's has great pizza, but there is another place that I thought was particularly good that is a little closer - Anthony's Coal-fired Pizza. It's on Old Country Road and listed as Carle Place.
I also like Trodos for mediteranean food, which is also close by:

and what about Roslyn Harbor?
Diane's is probably the only idea, but if you are looking for brunch, Thyme is Roslyn also serves brunch. Limani which is on Northern Blvd has a great brunch, although pricey. Not sure how far you are willing to go, but there are also a few bagel places that are not far. Another thought is to check with the Roslyn Claremont hotel. I can't find anything on their website, but they might know where to direct you, and may even serve breakfast in the hotel.
Stratton, VT
Thanks, this sounds good. Enough of an assortment for the 4 days we will be there.
PrimeBurger in Albertson
I am torn between letting people know about this place, and keeping it a secret so when I want to go again I won't have to wait.
PrimeBurger opened recently where Deli-on-Rye (previously Daphil) was in the Waldbaum's shopping center on Willis Avenue in Albertson. Always in search of a great burger, we had to try it. The burger was great. We spoke to the chef, who told us about the mix of meat they use to get the great quality burger they make. Not sure where the buns are from, but they are very similar to the ones made at the bakery in North Shore Farms on Jericho Tpke.
The onion rings are great as well, although I would say that the fries were not great, but a small price to pay for such a great burger. Also, their fountain soda is refillable, and they have a great variety.
No reservations, so you may have to be prepared to wait.
PREMIUM SMOKED SABLE PLATE IN NASSAU COUNTY,NY
Andels has great fish, although it is quite expensive. However, the Bagel Boss on Willis Avenue has great sable. I am not a sable fan, but was in there one day and bought 1/4 lb for my husband, who loves it. I have to say, their sable could make me a sable fan.
Levittown Area devoid of any decent dining options.
Levittown was always a blue collar town, built after World War 2 when the soldiers were coming home and looking for inexpensive housing options. Some things haven't changed, and you are not going to find what you are looking for in Levittown because the location or chef would need word of mouth to get people there, and would most likely only come on a Saturday night, which is not enough to keep an upscale restaurant in business.
However, one place you may want to look into is Fortune Wheel for dim sum on the weekends. Great assortment, and no need to go to Flushing or NYC.
Stratton, VT
This year we are planning to go to Stratton in a few weeks. We are used to Killington, where there are plenty of restaurants along the access road. I know they are certainly not fine dining, but for this type of vacation, with my 2 sons in their 20's, its fine. It seems that Stratton has a limited number of restaurants in the village, and I can't find anything about restaurants on the access road. Are there any? Are there ones you would recommend?
Chicago deep-dish pizza
Yes, I know that I can just search for old posts, but some of these posts date as far back as 1999, so I would like to have a new take on this. A group of 9 of us are getting together in Chicago this week. 4 of us are from NY, so I am not sure that you can really get better than some of our pizza, although we don't do deep dish the way they do in Chicago.
We will be staying pretty close to Uno and Due, so would like to know if the restaurants themselves are really as bad as some of the reviews sound, and the wait as long, or should we go for it because these are your originals? Any suggestions as far as their specialty pizzas if we don't want just the traditional ones?
Murray Hill Restaurant Suggestions - GOOD ONES
We've also had some enjoyable meals at Coppola's, and Third Ave. and 27th. Relatively reasonable for NY, nice looking restaurant, and if you happen to be going to a show at Baruch College theater, it's very convenient. That was how we originally discovered it, although my son lives right there.

romantic restaurant recs near Second City
We have booked the Second City Dinner/Theater package because of the preferred seating for a group of 9 because the premium seats were not available. At this point we have chosen Bistro Margot for our dinner. They have a deal for $40 that is served family style, and we can choose 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 3 entrees, and are given dessert. Was that a wise choice? We will be in from various locations for 3 nights, and there are various offerings of other types of food closer to our hotel, such as Italian, so we thought this might be a good one, but would appreciate comments from locals.
Moderately priced Italian for 8-9 people
I know everyone says moderate is a broad range, so should say probably the $40-$50 range or so with tax and tip would be great. We are meeting cousins for dinner - 6 adults, 2 or 3 twenty-somethings. I figure Italian will suit everyone, but where? Best choice location-wise would probably be east side from Murray Hill to upper east.
Cuban Sandwich on Long Island??
Thanks for reminding me. I saw it on the menu at Cedar Creek in Glen Cove. My husband loves cuban sandwiches, but he wasn't there with us that nite. Have to go back.
HELP! Where can I buy Medjool Dates in Chicago?
They have them at Costco's in NY, so maybe they have them in the Chicago one's also.
3 day trip to Chicago - 10 friends
We are mostly women, planning a trip to Chicago in early November. We are staying just off Michigan Ave, on Eat Ontario. We are looking for some places that might be in walking distance, reasonably priced, for both lunch and dinner. Possibly brunch on Sunday. Any ideas?
Where is the center of the NYC food universe?
Do you have an unlimited budget for rent?
The great thing about the city is that there are great restaurants everywhere, especially when you compare them to places outside NYC. As far as supermarkets go, you might want to be on the upper west side somewhere near Fairway. Some might like to be near Trader Joe's, so it's more what your preference is.
Sunday Brunch near Grand Central
Artisinal is one of my favorites, but we decided on Cibo. I just wasn't sure whether the others would be as happy with the choices at Artisinal, but it works very well for us for family get togethers because if any of the kids (not really kids, but 20 somethings) want a steak or a burger, they can have it, and there are other options, plus we usually get a plate of cheese too.

Sunday Brunch near Grand Central
It's hard to weed out this location from the brunch posts, so I thought someone could help me out. We are looking for someplace to meet this Sunday for a brunch/lunch not far from Grand Central. Any ideas would be helpful, not rediculously expensive is the only requirement, but not a cheap dive either.
Best Fried chicken on Long Island
Thanks all. I will have to remember Spiceys, but will have to finally go to check out LL Dents, that's more in my area. I should have specified Nassau. I was looking for something to have special to celebrate my birthday, and seeing as I am on a long term weight loss journey, can't have fried chicken when it is not a real celebration.
Best Fried chicken on Long Island
No fast food or take-out, but would like anyone's opinion of the best.
Cafe Sport (Portuguese in Williston Park, Long Island)
We have been going there off and on for many years. We went fairly recently, and it was better than it had been in a while. We usually have the grilled chorizo and a shrimp or clam appetizer. I hace the seafood in green sauce, which was very good. Also, by the way, if you love their broa, which is the bread they serve, you can buy it at Bakers of all Nations, but be prepared to use your electric knife to cut it.
Looking for Seafood Between New Haven and Rhode Island!
We started going there about 30 years ago, and go back every once in a while when we are travelling through the area. It is our 'destination' restaurant on certain trips, like this coming Friday night. Hope it is a good as we remember.
Falafel - Long Island
Hummus World in Roslyn. It's on Warner Ave near the high school. They also have great schwarma, and something called a schwalaffel, which is a sandwich with schwarma and fellafel. One thing to watch for though, they are glatt kosher, so I am sure they are closed on Friday nights and Saturdays. Over the summer, if they open on Saturday nights, it will be very late.

JULIO AND CESARE IN WESTBURY, LONG ISLAND
This is one of those places I just don't get. It has been around for years, and certainly has it's devoted regulars, but there are so many better Italian restaurants in the area, I have no idea why anyone would think it was that great.
Favorite Long Island Restaurants
Mill River Inn closed a year ago or more. I am surprised that the best you can come up with are Riverbay and la parma.
Fork and Vine, which was formerly On 3, in Glen Head, is excellent. There is a new place where Camille's was in Carle Place, and the menu looks similar to Fork and Vine and West End Cafe, so am anxious to hear if anyone has tried it.

Long Island suggestions in/near Melville, NY
Four is one of my favorites, but wouldn't consider it pub-like in the least. Also, Blackstone is north of the LIE, not south. As far as pub-like places, we used to go to a place called Rosewoods when I worked in an office near there, just north of the LIE. However, you will get much better food if you venture up into Huntington Village, lots of great places. Also, not far off Route 110 on Jericho Tpke is Piccolo Bussola, and family style Italian place that would be good for 4 people. There's a Matteo's there too, but I like Piccolo Bussola better.
Now, if they are not foodie types, there is also Dave & Buster's if you are with a group of guys that just wanted relax and go a little crazy.

Having breakfast on Long Island
I went with 2 friends to a place that I never would have thought would have a great brunch experience, but we did, Jonathan's in Garden City. They have a very nice Sunday brunch menu. Not overly expensive, and a pleasant experience. Service was excellent, and we were there for a long time chatting. We even gave a very large tip because we felt we took up the table for so long.
REstaurant Depot?
If you are a certified bar-b-que judge and are a member of the Kansas City Bar-b-que society, you can get a card. My husband loves it, but truthfully I feel it is just as good to buy smaller portions in other places. We did buy a fantastic bone in loin of veal that we cut into chops, and a prime boneless rib. it depends on what you compare it to as far as price goes. We got 15 large steaks out of the rib, but it was about $180 for it. If you go to a butcher to buy prime meat, you will pay a lot more for prime. If you find prime at Costco, it is about the same. A vacuum sealer, however, is a must. I seal and date everything before it goes in the freezer. We also bought a prime filet mignon that we will cut into a few steaks and a roast or chateaubriand. I think we have enough meat for a year now, seeing as we don't eat it that often.
As far as some other things they have, they have balsamic glaze in a small jar with narrow tip if you want to try to decorate your plate like a restaurant. Also, their frying pans are fantastic.
