Monday night in Santa Barbara

Update: Toma was great. Sat at the bar and had several appetizers - the artichokes, tuna cones and bone marrow. Bartender told me the roasted bone marrow is more unusual here (it's very common in meaty Toronto, where I'm from) and was really well prepared. I'd definitely say it's worth checking out.

So, I'd say avoid Bacara. The mussels were off. As for more K-town, good time and good food at Toe Bang (also, the name!). Zion market in City Center was great (and lots of sampling if you go on the weekend), iota coffee (which has all kinds of food - bulgogi pizza!), and Park's. Cocktails at Lock and Key were good too.

Toma is open and the menu looks right up my alley!

I'm mid-dinner at Bacara right now - had the burrata with onion jam for appetizer (fine. The onion jam was overly balsamicky and there was a bit too much of it, so it overpowered the cheese, which was also too cold for burrata) and waiting on mussels.

For Koreatown - I was on a late-night focused story so didn't hit up all the barbecue I'd have liked to. Pot was terrific - try the chicken wings, which are new on the menu (our waiter said we had the first order) - my friend said she liked them as much as Pok Pok in Portland. My food just came so will update more later.

Julienne was also on my list, also closed. Boo and hiss. Sama Sama is open but I'm coming off a few days of nonstop Korean in LA Koreatown and am ready for a complete change in geography. I'm going to look up your others. Staying at Bacara, so a bit out of town. If there's nothing noteworthy open tomorrow and dinner tonight goes well I might just come back here and relax.

Will be in town tomorrow night - and looks like the places on my list (Scarlett Begonia, the Lark, Wine Cask) are closed. Any thoughts on Finch and Fork? Anywhere else with a similar concept (local ingredients, eclectic/gastropub) chowhounds would recommend that IS open? Thanks!

Village Whiskey or Rouge burger?

We went early (had to leave for the airport at 6) so we walked right in. Are you talking about the price of the Whiskey King or Village burger? I did the latter, based on other posts on chow, plus cheddar and caramelized onions - given the size and flavor, I didn't mind the price at all. I will definitely try Good Dog next time I come to Philly though.

Village Whiskey or Rouge burger?

I'd have to agree with you DirtyJerzey. We ended up going back for round 2 - I was worried the burger wouldn't be as good the second time in so few days but it was indeed magic. Again. Might be tied for my fave burger of all time (#1 is at Comme Ca in LA).

Also, this time we ordered the fries well done (I didn't love them the first time but hard to get a burger with no fries) and they were much tastier.

cwdonald, I've eaten at Shake Shack (in NY) - I thought it was great for a fast food-style burger but wouldn't put it in the same food category as the VW burger.

Village Whiskey or Rouge burger?

Visiting Philly for a few days from Toronto. Had dinner at Village Whiskey last night - it was one of my all-time favourite burger and I'm wondering if I can go home without eating it again. We were previously considering the Rouge burger before our early evening flight Saturday. How does it stack up? Should we just go back to Village Whiskey? Thanks!

Driving from Viareggio to Rome - where to stop for lunch

Didn't do a great job planning ahead on this but we're driving from Viareggio to Rome tomorrow, and would like to stop along the way. Thinking of Pienza or Montepulciano (but open to other suggestions - we'll have several hours). Any recommendations for where to eat? Saw another thread on La Grotta that sounded nice. Thanks!

Wynwood kitchen & bar

Anyone been? Saw not great review (pre Art Basel) but menu looks good so wondering if they've improved. Thanks!

L'Artusi, Maialino or Locanda Verde?

Well, Maialino sounds like a clear winner. Thanks all!

L'Artusi, Maialino or Locanda Verde?

I'm visiting NYC for two nights, have reservations at all three but want to do one Italian. Which should we eat at?
