Mexican restaurants that serve draft beer in cold glasses?

I know Maudie's does this. I know El Mercado has cold Pilsner glasses but no beer on draft. Any other places have this winning combination?

Dinner Sunday in Austin??

Vox Table is very nice with shared plates. Will give you all a chance to see the new, huge development on S. Lamar. Lonesome Dove is great for innovative Texas fare and you can explore 2nd Street District. Lunch at Freedmans BBQ which is right on campus would be nice.

Taking 2 college guys to dinner help me please

I ended up taking them to County Line. It was more than enough food and the visitor really liked the lake location and the atmosphere.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm saving this for the next time my son brings a friend home from school.

They eat any/everything. I say that but the friend from Witchita Falls asked me what kale was when I offered to make them kale smoothies for breakfast. Ha!

Re:post from r/austin subreddit Wheatsville employee open letter about wages, etc.

It's difficult for grocery stores to sell quality at affordable prices and provide living wages for employees. If you charge a premium, you're called Whole Paycheck, if you charge a bargain your product line likely cuts corners on standards and your format is limited by size, selection and staff (think TJ's). If your only concern is a buck then you likely throw many of these things out the door, sell whatever sells at the lowest price and call yourself Walmart.

I'll give it to the Wheatsville team members for putting together such a clear letter. I only hope the union doesn't try to step in and "help" them; although if they did I think the Wheatsville staff would likely see that path as being just as difficult.

I hope they figure out a good solution. Wheatsville has come a long way. Competition is good.

My son and his friend are in town and I want to take them to dinner at a good "Austin" place that has large portions (they eat like horses and like appetizers, entrees and desserts) but won't cost me a fortune. Threadgill's is an idea but I'd rather take them to something newer. Centrally located is a plus.

Another icon lost

It moved to Airport and I35 in the same strip center that Quality Seafood is in. It's supposed to be bigger/better.

Lee Ann's Fine Toffee

Hello, I used to buy Lee Ann's Fine Toffee at the Austin Christmas Affair a few years ago. They were based in Phoenix. Does anyone know about this company? I can't find a website so they may have gone out of business. Any information is appreciated. It was the best toffee I had ever tried.

GF wants Nachos with queso this weekend where to go?

We go to Cabo San Lucas every year and the nachos at Taco Flats (not Tortuga Flats) are on par with nachos we find in Cabo.

Queso...the Bob Armstrong dip at Matt's El Rancho is devine.

Mayweather vs. Pacquaio fight at bar/restaurant?

Does anyone know of a bar/restaurant (not gentlemen's club) showing the Mayweather vs. Pacquaio fight on Saturday night? Cover 3 isn't showing it. Time Warner charging $100 to watch it.

Recs for gf-friendly places near the convention center

When you are GF and you are starving and trying not to get sick from eating something iffy (kind of GF), it's comforting to know that you can skip the guessing and go to a chain that has a certified GF menu. While it's great to be hip and go to the latest and greatest spots, your choices narrow significantly when you're dealing with food issues that make you feel terrible.

What Austin-y gift would you send someone?

Friends from out of state are always in love with queso. there are plenty of brands of jarred/tub queso's although most of the good ones need to be kept cold (send with cold pack?). My son loves the TexaFrance brand the best.

Jaime's Spanish Village salsa is good too. You could send with some tortillas from El Milagro (located on E. 6th but sold everywhere).

There are amazing chocolate bars sold at Antonelli's that have toffee and candied fruits with nuts in them. I need to find out who makes those but I'm fairly certain they are local. Delicious and beautiful. Found it: http://www.chocolatemakersstudio.com/...

We took the Lammes Longhorns (may be what you're referring to) to a friend in San Francisco. He loved them.

Coming to Austin for the first time this weekend

By the way, Casino is "gentrified" food. Casino may have a Hispanic name but they are not a restaurant created in "old Austin" or of an ethnic Austin Family. My grandmother worked at Green & White grocery store for over 25 years standing right next to her sister while they made the famous tamales sold there. Just because Casino is run down and located on East 6th Street - WEST of I-35 doesn't mean it's grandfathered in as being "gentrified".

Coming to Austin for the first time this weekend

If you love sloppy, greasy burgers and seedy places, of course...go...squint your eyes and have a blast. You have your preferences and I have mine. I just thought I'd throw in my dos pesos so Weiszguy had a full picture of this place prior to going.

I've been in Austin for 47 years and my family has been here for 3 generations. Casino does not exemplify "Old Ausin" to me at all. Dirty Martin's, yes, Casino - absolutely not.

Coming to Austin for the first time this weekend

I agree with all suggestions except Casino. I simply do not understand the appeal of such a seedy place for a sloppy, greasy burger. Please don't waste your time on that mess.

Evening BBQ establishment?

We really enjoy Freedman's on campus. We sit at the bar and get the holy trinity; brisket, sausage and pork ribs. We've taken guests from San Diego, San Francisco and New York. Everyone had a great time and loved the BBQ.

Winery Recommendations Close to Austin

You must've been at Albert Hall. Coolest little dance hall. We fully intend to catch Aaron Watson, Cory Morrow or Kevin Fowler out there sometime. We stopped by there before we went to Garrison Brothers. Key is taking the back roads to get there. Such beautiful Texas Hill Country scenery.

Not wine but Bourbon. Garrison Brothers in Hye is a great time! Great product, fun tour, beautiful drive to Hye. Be sure to make your reservation online before hand. There were tons of people showing up to go on the tour without a reservation and they were turned away because it was sold out.

Best Risotto in Town?

I have always enjoyed Asti. Report back and let us know how it goes. I've always found them to be a consistent neighborhood restaurant with friendly owners. We also like sitting at the bar and watching the open kitchen. I hope it works out for you as well.

best bakery for a birthday cake?

It happens all the time. They "bake" the cakes. It's a way to save money/time. They still custom decorate and at times they enhance the mixes or the fillings.

best bakery for a birthday cake?

Russell's isn't a scratch bakery. They use box mixes. When it comes to great cakes, I want one made from scratch.
