Aleta,

Thanks so much... AGAIN! How did you get a table at Taktika Berri? Everything I've read says you must reserve weeks in advance. Did you call ahead? I can't seem to find a website for them.

Lunch suggestion for Nice on a Monday

We are cruising and with a port of call in Monaco, plan to train over to Nice for at least part of the day. Since we don't have long, we don't want to spend hours eating, but I would like to lunch somewhere with great food and atmosphere that's unique to the area. Any ideas? Thanks! I LOVE this site!

Aleta,
Now that's what I call helpful! You just saved me hours of planning! One more question: did you try seafood and can you recommend good seafood restaurants in Barcelona? Not sure I want to try squid and octopus or eel. So maybe more mainstream seafood is what we would look for. We won't be having Tapas every meal and I would love to try Catalan dishes as well.

Dodiyo's Kabobs

Chicken kabobs have never been something I would say I just crave. But the juicy, tender kabobs at Dodiyos (in SOHO in Homewood where Tria Market once was located) have an incredible flavor and I would definitely put them on my list of go to places now. The dish comes with an equally tasty salad and a side. When you are first seated you are given soft bread and a feta cheese spread with olives that I also love. I had She-Crab soup as a starter and I'm not sure I would try that again... it was too thick and salty. I've tried several things there, from lamb to cabbage rolls but nothing has satisfied me like the kabobs. Owned by Connie Kanakis and George Sarris, two well known restauratuers in the Birmingham area, they have incorporated many of their signature dishes from former restaurants and family recipes. The atmosphere is charming and it's a great place to take a group as they have several private alcoves available to be closed off from the crowd. I would certainly recommend Dodiyo's to anyone looking for great Mediterranean/ Greek food.

Any good eats in Cullman, AL?

Have to agree with Kudzo on All Steak. But I would go there JUST for the orange rolls! And I enjoy their Sunday buffet, too. There is a wonderful little bakery in downtown, next to a German gift shop... can't remember the name, but they have the most incredible chocolate macaroons in the world!.. For catfish, we love to go to Bobby's which is out the way a bit in Eva, just down Eva Rd/hwy? I know I'm a little late on this reply, but you probably visit in laws often, right? Enjoy!

Good Lunch in Birmingham?

I have to disagree with Irondale cafe also. The food is just not that great IMO. But near the airport, directly behind it is VJs on the runway. They are a meat and three kind of place but they have a grill type menu as well. To get there from the airport, jut hop on I-59S toward BHM. Take the first exit and go right off ramp. Take first right on East Lake Blvd. It's about a mile up on the left, directly across from the airport's BIRMINGHAM sign and overlooking the runway.

Road Trip from Atlanta to Tuscaloosa along I-20: Looking for great BBQ

I agree with all of the above. One addition I would like to make is Dreamland. They are FAMOUS for ribs. Now I will say that the ribs are large and the meat doesn't fall off the bone as I would like. But the sauce is the best ever! They have a very limited menu... just ribs, now chopped pork, potato salad and YUMMY banana pudding! The original location is in the Tuscaloosa area, I'm not sure where. But ask anyone in Tuscaloosa and they'll know. The location I'm most familiar with is in the southside of Birmingham near UAB. Enjoy your trip!

Can anyone tell me if the culiinary tours such as the walking Tapas tours are worth it? Can you suggest a particular one? Headed to Barcelona at the end of Oct 2010.
