Love the pesto as well. I also like the Kirkland Olive Oil. |

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had? When my stepdaughter got married, for the bar we had an option of either paying by the hour ($9/first hour, $7 each additional hour) or by consumption. With 125 of OUR friends and family, by the hour was the only way to go. And it was premium beers, wine, bubbly, top shelf liquor, etc. |

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had? When my stepdaughter got married in 2010, the venue we used did a great job with the tasting. They hold tastings several times a year and have 100 people for it, so that a couple can see how the food is done for an event and at the appropriate quantity. The food at her wedding was very, very good. |

It's made to order because each burger is made as it is ordered with the toppings the customer requested. I have no issue with it being well done because it is a thin, fast food burger. |

It's just you. |

My husband has lunch there on occasion...he likes the Sloppy Joe. |

I charge my coffee at the coffee shop and rarely have cash, so I try to throw a $20 in the jar about once a month. And leave one at the holidays as well. |

I start at 20% on the total bill. In some cases, I will hit 30-40% or even 100% depending on the place and service (see: inexpensive lunch). I round up accordingly. We have a few places where we are comped often (and for significant items) and tip on the value plus an additional amount as a thank you or will leave the value of the comped item itself. I have good friends who are not good tippers & are insulted when tip is added for our group. I understand the policy of tipping for groups and do not penalize the staff for that policy. |

What do Chowhounds do for a Living? (Part 2) I live near you :-) I'm in Powhatan. |

You can take it with you: bringing your own food instead of getting to go or eating out. Nope. |

How much do you spend on groceries each month? How is buying what I want, when I want it, trying to impress? I think the only person trying to impress on this thread is you. |

How much do you spend on groceries each month? I always wondered what happened to my my former MIL and now I know. After 5 years married to Mr. Frugal, I said never again. I am happy it works for you and makes your world a better place, but no thank you. |

GUESTS: your job is to SHOW. UP. ON. TIME. Is that really so hard? One of my best friends is always late. We learned years ago to assign her dessert, not an appetizer. |

Nice BBQ or ethnic in or near Glen Allen, Va. The Short Pump area has three VERY good Indian places: Lehja (at Short Pump Mall next to Dick's Sporting Goods), Anoaka (across the street from the mall in a shopping center) and Malabar, just down the road (off Lauderdale) in another strip shopping center. |

How many times are you willing to try a restaurant? (before forsaking it) I went the first time right after they opened. BBQ was very dry and their sauces aren't very good....bland and sweet and very ketchupy. The slaw was very good as were the black beans I had for a side. Tried it again a couple of weeks ago. Had the stuffed baked potato with chili, sour cream, bacon and cheddar. And a glass of water. The inside of the potato had been scooped out and all that was left was the skin and there was about 2 T of chili and very little of any other toppings. It was dry and flavorless and I left hungry. When I got back to my office and looked at the menu, I realized I was charged for the combo (w/drink and cornbread) rather than just the potato. |

How many times are you willing to try a restaurant? (before forsaking it) The Flyin Pig in Midlothian. |

How many times are you willing to try a restaurant? (before forsaking it) If there is no hope, one and done. If there are glimmers of hope, they get a second change and then no more. A new BBQ place opened up near my office recently and I had high hopes that were shattered after two trips. |

Richmond restaurant for birthday It's early and I'm drawing a blank...perhaps others will have better ideas. The closest I am coming up with is Heritage for dinner (Main & Vine) and then head across the street to Hometeam Grill. |

Boiled or deviled eggs. I am constantly amazed not only do people eat them but they really like them. Cottage cheese, those curd things are gross. |

Showing up empty-handed to dinner Since this thread has been revived, I want to share the most fabulous gift we got last week. A large, monogrammed canvas tote bag with monogrammed wine glasses, a lovely entertaining cookbook, a wine opener and hand towel. I told our friends it was like Christmas morning in a bag. It was prepared beautifully with tissue and ribbons and made me day. |

Costco Food Finds- 1st quarter 2013 I love stuffed cabbage and my husband does not, so I don't make it. This would be perfect. |

Exactly. It seems Carson from Downton Abbey has been posting on this thread. |

He doesn't have to....he can be the Dad who is a control freak. Comes down to "Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?" |

Shopping lists: Running lists? Paper & ink? Laminated? I'm so low brow, I just use the notepad on my iphone. I'll have to check out these apps. |
