Ponos Burger SM

I really enjoyed their french fries. I'd go back for them. I had the portobello vegetarian burger, so I can't comment on the beef patties. The portobello was flavorful.

I met the owner. He was very gracious, helpful, and friendly.

For those who care, their fries are cooked in non-GMO rice bran oil and the beef is organic as is the ice cream. :)

Wildcraft Sourdough Pizza

I read on yelp that they have a strict no substitutions policy. I'd say that extending it to something as innocuous as dressing on the side is pretty extreme....

Coconut Cake - by the slice

I found the name. Bountiful Bakery. Here's the website. http://bountifulbakeryla.com The menu shows only full cakes, but they do sell by the slice at the farmer's market.

Coconut Cake - by the slice

Farmer's market on Sundays in the Pacific Palisades. I can't remember the name of the baker, but they only have a couple of bakeries so it shouldn't be hard to figure out. She has an amazing coconut cake and sells by the slice.

Two weeks in Santa Monica...what to eat, where to eat it!

Trying this again..... It posted in the wrong place. It's 5:00-6:00 pm that FIG does half off and they're only open for dinner Tues-Sat.

Recommendations for casual eating places that serve organic meat

They have an article on their blog that discusses the meat they source. It is not technically organic, but the cows are either grass fed or given non-GMO grains, as well as being free from hormones and antibiotics. http://www.tendergreensfood.com/blog/...

I asked at FIG in Santa Monica today and their meat/chicken is usually organic (although it doesn't mention this on the menu).

Hi Servorg. The following quote is directly off the Niman Ranch website. "Our cattle are provided with ample grazing room, where they are raised on pasture and then finished on grain." Here is the link. This quote is from the first sentence of the second paragraph. http://www.nimanranch.com/beef.aspx Unless grain is organic it most likely contains GMOs since most estimates place over 70% of all non-organic corn as genetically modified and over 90% of soy is genetically modified. Both of these are used in animal feed. So, statistically speaking, it is very likely that the grain being used is GMO.

There are studies regarding GMOs and the dangers, they are not reported as comprehensively because most of the current studies have ties to industry.

The link you provided for Niman Ranch talks about how their non-organic products compared with actual organic products. While I applaud them for not using hormones or antibiotics and treating their animals well, the reason why I chose only organic meats is that this is the only way to ensure that the animal is not fed any GMO-grain. Even the Niman grass fed beef is finished on grain which being non-organic could very well be GMO. I don't know whether GMO is a concern for the OP, but more and more evidence is coming out regarding it's dangers.

Ricotta Gnocchi

I ended up going to both Union Square Cafe and Esca for ricotta gnocchi. Both tasted good. However, the ones at Esca were denser. I preferred the lighter texture of the gnocchi at Union Square Cafe.

Raw Milk direct from the farmer?

That is one of the reasons that I prefer Claravale. It tastes much richer than OP. You can even tell by looking as there's a thick layer cream on the top which I don't see with OP. I've always assumed that it is because Claravale is 100% from Jersey cows whereas OP isn't.

Raw Milk direct from the farmer?

Read the Claravale website. It is their own choice that they don't have the certification, but they follow it. Here's from their website.

"Claravale Dairy is not certified organic by choice. We do not want to be certified organic because we do not agree completely with the organic regulations, both with their strictness in some areas and their laxness in others."

We feed our cows nothing but organic hay, organic dairy supplement, and organic pastures.
We do not use pesticides or antibiotics on the milking herd.
We do not use any GMO feeds or products.
We do not use bovine growth hormone or any other substances to increase milk production artificially.
We do not bottle milk from any dairy other than our own.

Raw Almond Milk - West LA?

The vendor from the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmer's market is Fat Uncle Farms. He sells fresh almond milk. They are at a few farmer's markets, but don't sell the almond milk at all of the markets they do. You might want to ask which ones. I know he does sell it at the SaMo market. Here's the contact info:

Here's a link to buy some of their products online, but they don't sell almond milk online.
