Mexican/Mayan in brattleboro
I had a wonderfull simple meal there, it is definitely regional mexican, not chips salsa and sour cream. The owner/hostess, and her mother/chef were both super nice.
Sakura Northampton
I have a weakness for Chinese buffets, and I have been to some REALLY bad ones, Brattleboro Vt, and Greenfield Ma come to mind. Sakura is above average for a buffet, but not in the same league as a the good chinese restaurants in the area such as Ahmerst Chinese, Butterfly, or Great Wall. They charge around $10 weekdays, I don't know what it costs weeknights.

Someone bumped me from the NE page. There is a grerat old diner just across the border from the Berkshires in Steventown NY (I might have been bumped because I said Spencertown which is not a border town). Dan's Diner in Windsor is also awesome. They are closing for the winter, but check them out in the spring.
Dan's Diner Stephentown
I am asking for trouble here, I have been scolded in the past for recommending diners based on architecture rather than food, and the diner I am recomending is not physically in New England, but here goes. Dans diner in Stephentown is one of the most beautifull diners in existance. It is not a fifties stainless steel diner, it was built in the twenties and the interior is oak , marble and tile. It is in Stephentown NY,but I am posting on the New England board because I think that there are more chow hounds nearby to Dan's on the Ma side of the border. That being said the food is pretty darn good, but be advised they are shutting down for the winter. I will do another post with their web link.
Quick Berkshires Trip
Egads, not another discussion of what's authentic! The general concensus on Xicotencatl is that it seems to be overpriced and inconsistant. That doesn't mean that it isn't one of the better restaurants in the Berkshires though.
vegetarian ethnic
My lady friend and I are making our annual trip to Boston and I am looking for some good vegetarian ethnic food. We love TAMARIND BAY, and TANJORE, and BUDDA'S DELIGHT and the Ethiopian place on Mass Ave Cambridge. We haven't found great mexican or Italian yet.
ALSO Is there a GREAT Indian market anywhere in the metro area?
Diners in Vermont/New Hampshire
The best diner for food along your route is the Blue Benn in Bennington hands down. The Chelsea Royal is not bad, the Windsor (Vt) diner is not bad (and is a beutiful '40s Worcester). The Miss Bellows Falls, the Four Aces in Lebanon NH, Daddypops Tumble Inn , the Farmers Diner in Queechee are all architecturally significant diners, but the food isn't allways to great. The country girl in Chester, the diner in downtown keene, the diner in Springfield would be lower priorities for me.
Pleasant pizza surprise in Pittsfield
I don't see how any pizza in Pittsfield could be better than the East Side Cafe,but I guess I better give it a try.

My elderly parents are going on a elderhostel tour of Philadelphia museums. Can anyone recommend some easily accesible (public transportation), not too noisy seafood restaurants for their one meal without the rest of the group?
THE EAST Great Barrington Ma
I would like to recommend the East in Great Barrington Ma., it is in my opinion the best Chinese restaurant in Berkshire Co., and one of the better casual dining spots in the county too.
where can I buy fresh naan in Manchester, NH?
I have been seeing pre made naan around, even at super stop and shop in Pittsfield Ma, but I would recommend making your own, it's no harder than making pizza. I just bake it in the oven and then finish it on a gas burner on the stove and it comes out fine.

I would go to little Armenia in Watertown. I don't know the addresses but there are a bunch of shops just west of the Deluxe Town Diner on Mnt Auburn, even one high end nuts only store.
La Fogata in Pittsfield--any recent visits
Don't miss the tostones!, The first time I had the corn cakes they were fantastic, but I haven't had good ones since. The entrees are all variations on meat, beans, rice, and sometimes fried eggs. Nothing is very highly seasoned, but I have allways found everything to be fresh and tasty.

Any suggestions for Orleans and vacinity for one omnivore and one vegetarian? We don't need fancy architecture or snooty servers, we prefer ethnic or comfort food. Also where can we find great tide pools?
Addis Red Sea in Cambridge
I went to the Addis Red Sea in Cambridge a few weeks ago and it was excellent, but the food was not in the least spicy (as in chili pepper hot). I heard a member of the wait staff say "never ask an Ethiopian for hot food (or you won't be able to eat it)", so someone is going to have to figure out the key to getting spicy not painfully hot food there I guess.

best bets for vegetarian omnivore couple
What do people recommend for a vegetarian and an omnivore vacationing in Boston? We like especially like Chinese, Ethipoian, Indian, Italian, French; mostly casual/inexpensive, but we also like to splurge once a trip. Transportation wise we try not to drive once we reach Boston, but we are willing to walk long distances.
Lee Vietnamese, Pittsfield Indian
I just made a quickie trip to the Berkshires and I stopped at the new Vietnamese restaurant in Lee. It was good, not as good as the Golden Dragon in Pittsfield used to be, but a nice friendly place with fresh, hot food. Their rice pudding has black eyed peas in it(!?).
I also stoped at the Indian restaurant in Pittsfield for the buffet, and that was pretty good too. They have remodeled, which is nice because it was a little grim, and they are offereing more dishes, two chicken and three vegetarian when I was there. And they still have the best rice pudding in the berkshires.
Romantic Berkshires spot with veggie options?
You might try an all appetizers meal at the Agean Breeze in Great Barrington. Don't miss the custard stuffed phillo dessert.

Next time you are in Pittsfield try the East Side Cafe for pizza in a dark neighborhood bar atmosphere, and La Fogatta for Columbian diner food, oh those tostones!!!
