Good Peach Brandy?

I'm looking for a recommendation on a good brand of peach brandy for some peach ice cream I'm making. I'm thinking that a German brand would be good, but I've no experience in this area, so I'm looking for any feedback.

Thanks,
Toni

Morro Bay area - New Year's Eve at Pub/Bar and Live Music

I'm looking for a local casual bar or pub with live music where a group of us can hang out on New Year's Eve. Ideally I'm looking for a local place where we can drink, eat and dance, casual, nothing fancy. If you have any suggestions for Morro Bay or there abouts I would appreciate hearing any suggestions. Thanks!

Morro Bay area: good restaurants and cafes

Thank you Bakersfield Hound and everyone else for your recommendations! I think I've got a lot to choose from when I get down there. In particular, I'm going to try and get to Jockos Steak House. I've heard both here and elsewhere it is a good restaurant. Thanks! Toni

Morro Bay area: good restaurants and cafes

A group of us are staying in Morro Bay over the new year holiday. I'm looking for recommendations on good restaurants (any type, variable price range) and recommendations for good cafes that might be on par with Intelligensia coffee. I like a good breakfast place too. Any suggestions would be appreciated for Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, San Luis O. area. We're just a group of adults, so special needs involving children are needed. Thanks!

Great Agri-Tourismo in Northern Italy

Just got back from Northern Italy visiting different Agri-Tourismos (farms that offer rooms and restaurants, often using their own farm raised produce and livestock). One of our favorites places was La Collina dell Mignole (www.lacollinadellemignole.it) located in the state of Friuli. The farm is run by a young couple, Paola and Allesandro, who are really passionate about good quality, local food. From offering their guests special ricotta from the local artisanal cheese maker, to making the best polenta from the best corn, on their wood fired oven, this couple is serious about offering their guests the best local food. What made the experience even nicer is being able to watch Paola making dinner in their open kitchen while sitting in the dinning room. While waiting for dinner you can browse their huge library of maps and tourist books for areas of interest and places to hike. Alessandro can answer any questions about the local area. Their English was not perfect, but my husband and I were definitely able to carry on good conversations with them. This is not a high-end, fancy place. There are no tv's or phones in the rooms, and no pool. There is however a great relaxing atmosphere. You can sit on their covered patio drink your coffee and look out over the Italian countryside, or if you need to, fire up your laptop in their living/ dining room. This was a great find, and so if you are in the northern Italy area, I would recommend this place.

Munich and Puglia, Italy suggestions?

Just got back from Munich, and my recommendation is the English Gardens at the Chinese Tower. If you are interested in local, Bavarian style food, in a relaxed, outdoor setting, then you can't beat it. When we were there an umpa band was playing music about 11:00 AM. There were people there, but it was not crowded, but it became crowded in the afternoon. It is self-service, but they are preparing everything there; the haxen, and roasted chicken, sausages, salads, bavarian radish, Kaiserschmarn (torn pancake with raisins), potato salad, cake, beer, etc. It's all really good and comfort food, and you can't beat the ambiance on a sunny day!

Restaurants in Evanston

Thanks all for all the great recommendations. Our two favorites restaurants turned out to be the Dixie Kitchen and Blind Faith Cafe. Turned out we ended up eating in many areas outside Evanston. Downtown we really liked The Purple Pig, right on Michigan Ave., and also Mary's Burgers in Andersonville. Also visited The Wormhole in Wicker Park for good espresso. Thanks again, Toni

Good Persian food for Narooz?

Thanks for all the great info and advise for good Persian food! We went out Saturday night in heavy rain, and decided to stick close to home so ended up at Faz in Sunnyvale. Not bad. Their menu items are not strictly Persian to say the least. My husband said Dishdash in Sunnyvale is better. Anyway will definitly want to try some of these other restaurants in SF another time. Thanks again!

East Bay Rrstaurant for celebrating birthday

im looking for a good restaurant for lunch or dinner ( open on weekends) where I can take my family for my birthday celebration ( no kids involved here). I'm looking for an established, known entity. Any cuisine is fine, a little more expensive is ok. It should be a nice atmosphere, doesn't have to be too fancy. I'll even accept a pizza place recommendations. Looking around San Ramon, pleasonton, Walnut Creek, Berkely area. I'm thinking Weekend lunch / dinner. Appreciate any good recommendations.

Peruvian Food - Mancora Wasiiki , 2319 El Camino Real, San Mateo

just discovered a Peruvian restaurant, Mancora Wasiiki, today in San Mateo, and it was very good. We ordered Pollo a la brassa (rotisseri chicken which came with potato fries and a salad ) and it was as good as Fresca in San Francisco. Plus there was a very nice, somewhat spicey sauce on the side that was an added bonus. My husband had ceviche, very nicely displayed, and flavorful. The atmosphere was good too. The interior was bright, clean and fresh looking. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were around $10-15.00. There was a sign on the door saying "under new management ". Well I don't know anything about the previous restaurant, but we will defiantly return to this one.

Coffee and cookies [Boonville]

Stopped into the Mosswood Market Cafe and Bakery yesterday for a coffee. Their latte was very good - espresso was not to strong, milk balance was just right - not too milky, and the chocolate chip cherry cookie was a good compliment. The Cafe was clean and nice inside with an outdoor patio too. There was a side market too, but i didn't check that part out. If you are near Boonville on hwy. 128 stop by and check them out.

Mendocino Bakery & Cafe

we are headed to Mendocino for the first time next Friday, and would like to know where really good baked goods can be had. Also cappachino. If there is some place that does their own roasting, or is on par with Blue Bottle Cafe in Sam Francisco.

Thanks!

2 recommendations: Khans Restaurant on Stevens Creek, across from Santana Row at hwy. 880. It's Americanized Vetnamese, buy very good - special rice, vermicelli and catfish clay pot, are very popular items with my friends and I. We've been going there for over 10 years.

The other recommendation is for coffee - Barefoot Coffee, at Lawerence Expressway and Stevens Creek (down the road from Khans). They are in a small strip mall with Bed Bath and Beyond and serve serious coffee and espresso drinks - no foo-foo whipcreamed stuff.

Best Pizza in Portland

We are from out of town, and tried Apizza Scholls based on seeing it on Anthony Bordain's No Reservations. It was very very good. It was a Friday night close to closing and only 15 minute wait. The vegetable appetizer was also really good.

"Gaumenkitzel" West Berkeley

After reading the previous reviews we went to GK for breakfast. I had the pancake, which was good, but the apple compote was too little for the size of the pancake. It was a too small of a portion. My mom had the cheese plate. Also good, but again the portion was too small. Also, as in previous reviews, the service was too slow. Seems too much effort is spent to make things look pretty, and not enough on timely service and quantity. Food was good, and price was fine, but portions could be larger.

Big Island of Hawaii -- Kailua/Kona/Waimea

We liked Teshimas. Good solid Japanese, with good selection (nice options also for non-fish eaters). Lava Java was good for breakfast. Coffee was fine, but some more particular drinkers may not like their espresso drinks. Coffee Epicurea ( just north of Coffee Shack) is a good alternative to the shack. No view, but good breakfast baked goods and a nice outdoor patio. I was disappointed with Kona Brewing Co. A lot of stuff on your plate, but flavor was lacking. Cafe Pesto pizza was probably better, but their person answering phones and reserving tables was seriously lacking in skills. 3 times I called to reserve a table and each time was put on hold, never to be answered again.
