Just wanted to weigh in my agreement for the food at Alamo being so bad I now refuse to order anything other than the simplest of things.
Got the falafel once, it was runny on the inside, actually returned that.
Got a pizza once, and they took one spice WAY too far... can't remember which now.
So many bad experiences, I'll maybe get a dessert, or just pass on eating entirely. The food at the Alamo Drafthouse is disgusting.
So i joined Chowhoud to reply to this.
I first heard about margherita pizza when the jvpizza recipe got popular on the internet. I tried to make it and got... kindof close... I bought buffalo mozzarella, the right tomatoes, I bought the yeast mail order and made terrible messes growing it in my kitchen.
But it was a hassle, and so I gave up. Every time I see Margherita pizza on the menu somewhere, I ask about it. I got so sick of getting a cheese pizza with basil and sliced tomatoes.
I found this thread and found House Pizzeria was only about 2 miles from my house, so I tried it out on tuesday.
I can't say I've ever tried a real margherita pizza, but it was fantastic. The dough was bubbly and charred, they have buffalo mozzarella, the sauce was crushed tomato, not marinara. I'm going back tonight for a pizza I don't have to share with a date ;)
That said, it's a simple little place. Oh, and they serve pitchers of beer ;)
