hatch peppers

I buy them roasted at the store and then use them in scrambled eggs, quiches and omlettes. I also mix them in to ground turkey for turkey burgers. I went to Central Market yesterday, where there is a full on Hatch festival going on at the moment (I reside in Texas) and they had Hatch chilis in everything from salmon burgers to sausage, crab cakes, brownies and cheesecake, muffins, breads, cornbreads, tortillas, chicken enchiladas, tamales....even gelato! I was overwhelmed and came home with too much but the possibilities are endless.

Thank you so much....you were right about the post...the Chow moderators moved me to the southern New England board because I posted on the wrong one. I have made reservations at State Road!

Doing annual trip to Boston, Cape and Vineyard .......need suggestions on good food spots.

I am heading to the greater Boston area for a trip and would love the latest, greatest food recommendations. Will be one week on the Cape, then several days on the Vineyard and two nights in Boston. The place we know the least about is the Vineyard and would love people to weigh in. We don't mind spending a lot for a good meal......but we want some atmosphere with the food. In Boston we love Number 9 Park but we need another one...and for the Vineyard we really need help. Suggestions and impressions appreciated.

Thanks for all of those great tips. I think I am organized now for our meals - in Bar Harbor we are doing Galyn's and Mache Bistro, in the Camden area we are doing Primo, Francine and The Edge and in the Portland area we are doing Fore Street and the White Barn. Lunches are going to be catch as catch can, as we will be sightseeing - hopefully lots of great lobster rolls, fried clams and chowder. We are so excited!

I have heard about Moody's and it is on our list - we love strawberry rhubarb pie. The warning about the traffic is great - I have to buy an atlas to map out our route and have some alternatives lined up for traffic.....evidently there is a really good atlas that everyone uses in Maine but I can't recall what the name of it is.....

Funny you should mention Bob's - I was watching Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives just a few nights ago and he featured Bob's on the show.......I will definitely call and check on when these places close for the season - thanks for all of the info.

Thanks so much - really have very little on Bar Harbor so this is most helpful and local seafood is very appealing - we are not big meat eaters.

Dined at Avner Samuel's new restaurant "Nosh"

Had dinner at Avner's new place on Saturday night. He has cleverly opened "Nosh" in the old Aurora space on Oak Lawn. Good menu with loads of selections, bar with television and open kitchen with counter seats that look right into the kitchen if you really want to see them prepping your food..... We were a party of seven, 3 generations, and everyone was very pleased with their choices. We sampled the gazpacho, the wedge and the beet salads, the croque monsieur sandwich, the roast chicken, the halibut, the kobe burger, the short ribs and the flat iron steak. My only complaint would be that the steak came with too few roasted vegetables (artichoke, fennel, and onion) and that the restaurant was noisy - very difficult to hear and converse at our table of 7 but it was a Saturday night so perhaps week nights will be better. Price points were good, with most entrees at our table being under $20.00 with the exception of the halibut and maybe one other. Overall, a good experience and I will definitely go back - just booked again for Thursday evening.

Trip to Maine Oct '10 need restaurant tips for Bar Harbor, Camden & Portland areas

I have always visited Chowhound when travelling and have just signed up officially so that I can participate in the conversations.

We are planning a "reconnaisance mission" to Maine in the first half of October. We have reserved for 3 nights in Bar Harbor, 3 nights in the Camden /Lincolnville area and 3 nights in the Portland area (Scarborough). We love to eat and travel and we are interested in knowing about the "must trys" in these 3 areas. We will pay the big bucks for a great dining experience - alternatively, we love the dives also. Dinner is our most important meal as we will be driving hither and yon during the day trying to sight see and identify a community in which to possibly rent a home for next summer.......we would like to know about great restaurants, food markets, and farmers markets. We will drive some distance for a great meal.

We had hoped to visit in September but surprisingly had trouble bookings rooms - evidently September is a great month there but many hotels/inns could not accomodate us. So,October it is.

If any of you can weigh in on this, we would appreciate it. There is a lot to research but I will certainly review any previous discussions on this topic that are recent (2010)........

Avner Samuel--NOSH Euro Bistro

I am so excited to hear about this - I noticed it last weekend but wasn't sure it was open yet.........After reading the above I will be adding it to my plans for this week. I have been an Avner fan for years in Dallas - Avner's, Bistro A, Aurora. I think a more casual setting with a lower price point will work well in the current climate and we could use more places in the neighborhood that are easy to drop in to for a good bite.

Rise No. 1 What are your favorites?

I agree that the marshmellow soup is good and creatively served. I generally go here for lunch and enjoy the Rise 1 salad with chicken or the nicoise salad which is very good....I save the souffle for dessert and always choose the grand marnier but they are all delicious.....hope you enjoy it. The "can't be missed" is obviously a souffle and it is difficult to choose between savory or sweet but most people can't eat both. The salad dressing here is yummy and they sell it in jars - I keep one in the frig.
