dBar and Cafe Boulud - Huge 'service' disappointment!! I had similar experience at Daisho some months ago, except it was over bottles of coke. Initially, our waiter told us that it was available, but went to check and changed his mind, saying that while they sell it at Noodle Bar, it isn't available upstairs. Fair enough - I can understand why they wouldn't want their waiters running up and down on a busy day. So I went downstairs and asked to pay for a bottle to bring back upstairs but the waiters at Noodle Bar also refused without any explanation! Finally, I had to run back up to Nikai and talk to the much more accommodating and business savvy bartenders, who promptly delivered two cold bottles! We practically had to BEG the restaurant to sell us these drinks, and on top of that, we were rushed through our meals! It seems that the service at these outposts simply aren't on par with their NY companions. |

The Oriental Gourmet - An interesting ' Omakase Style' Chinese Chui Chow Dinner Looks great! But what's the 'omakase' called in Chinese? |

Restaurant for a Mixed Age Crowd Thanks TorontoJo! This place looks great! My buddy also suggested Cafe Belong at the Brickworks - any updated Chow opinions on this place? |

Restaurant for a Mixed Age Crowd Hi there, I have some family visiting from Australia and I'm looking for a place with good food and a relaxing atmosphere that can accommodate six people - a couple in their 50s, a couple in their 30s with baby, and a 25 year old. Hopefully this place is open on Sunday, takes reservations, and lies somewhere between Splendido and Grand Electric vibe wise. Thanks in advance! |

Went there today, but didn't see any. |

Interesting! I don't remember having anything like wagyu while there! Perhaps it's time for more visits :) |

Is the omakase at Kaji the normal set menu, or a special request? |

Markham Event Centre reviews??? Attended a corporate event there once. The food, to put it kindly, sucked. There was watery vegetable soup along with a salad of mixed greens, strawberries, cheese, cold grilled chicken breast, and balsamic vinegar. |

Wow the Aoyama omakase never seems to change. I've gone there twice for omakase and they served the exact same dishes both times! ----- |

Thanks for the responses everyone! Based on the responses I think it'll probably be Omi (because I'd prefer sushi and sashimi only), and maybe Zen and Solo-sushi ya one day. Hopefully it'll be a good day, and the chef will be there. |

Despite eating Japanese food semi-regularly most of my life, I've only very recently heard of Omakase (it's not advertised much at Japanese restaurants in York Region - or at least not the ones I've been to). In any case, I've decided to give it a go. My price range is around $50-70 per person, and I'm wondering what the best choices are for more authentic and exotic fare. Opinions vary a lot, and there are a large list of restaurants. The consensus seems to be that Sushi-Kaji is the best, but it's slightly out of my price range. Restaurants such as Japango, Omi, Zen, Cafe Michi stand out. Thanks! |
