Osetra in SoNo

How are they doing?

I popped in there the other day (my first visit) and enjoyed some small plates at the bar. Whenever I walk past I don't see too much traffic inside.

I hope they make it. How about the other place, Bacchus........??

Rodger Sherman Inn "Excellent"????

Hi Nonny-

Yes I've been there since the new ownership took over.

I guess my main complaint is that the CT section of the NY Times (P.Brooks) and the Weds section (F.Bruni) should be a little more in tune with each other. She throws around "Excellent" and "Extrodinary" ratings like there is no tomorrow.

A few years back she gave Relish in SoNo and extrodinary rating...that was a sad joke.

I know we are not Manhattan up here in CT but there should be some consistency. The truth is, if you took Rodger Sherman and plopped it in New York, it would not be in business very long.

P.Brooks needs to be replaced. Her review reads like a high school term paper and not a restaurant review. I hear Gail Greene needs a job now....

When Grandma is in town, drive to Rodger Sherman. When you want to do some serious eating, get in the car and drive to Manhattan.

Rodger Sherman Inn "Excellent"????

NY Times reviewer Praticia Brooks gave the "new" Rodger Sherman Inn and "Excellent" in her review today.

Someone please put her and us out of our misery......................

Looking for great wine shop in Fairfield County, CT [Moved from Wine board]

Ditto the Var Max.......great wines from every catagory you can think of...Rhone, Burgundy, Napa, Italy, Bubbles, Sauterns,......they have it all.

Beringer Private Reserve Chard $25!!!!!!!! Stews in Norwalk is selling it for $36!!!

Need a plan B for Port Chester

Good luck getting in. I went last week at 5:45 and the place was totally full. The bar was packed with people eating at the bar and other people waiting behind them like circling vultures waiting for them to leave.

I asked the hostess how long for a table of 2 and she said 30 minutes. About 10 minutes later we were seated. Just lucky I guess!

Food is good. It's like they took Otto and Lupa, squished them together and put the result in Port Chester.

I will not return until the buzz dies down (maybe by the year 2050?) The noise level is incredible. Every wacko form Westchester and Greenwich are crawling over eachother to get in. The line of parked cars on the side road must have been a 1/4 mile long! Nice big wine pours though!!

Michellin Stars.......please explain

Chef June, Can you explain a little more? I have a chef friend that received a michellin star and was let go from the restaurant a few weeks later. He told me that the star belongs to him and the "knife & forks" belong to the establishment.

I had always thought the stars belong to the restaurant until it is again reviewed. Do the same rules apply in the USA & Europe?

Michellin Stars.......please explain

ChefJune,

Do tell more. I have a friend that is a chef. The restaurant where he was working was barely opened 6 months and received 1 Michellin star!!!

He was let go by the restaurant a few weeks later. He told me that he gets to "take the star with him", but I had always heard differently

All by myself........

Solo lunch this weds.......I've been to Union Square Cafe, Gramercy .....where else has a good bar to sit and have lunch with a decent glass of wine??

Michellin Stars.......please explain

What do the "forks & Knives" represent?

Michellin Stars.......please explain

Is the resto then able to "keep the star" until the next michellin review?

Michellin Stars.......please explain

I've asked this question on other sites and I can't seem to get an answer.

In the USA, if a chef earns Michellin stars and then he leaves for another restaurant:

Does he then lose the star?

Does the restaurant keep the star?

Can the chef then bring the star to the new establishment and that establishment then becomes a "starred" restaurant?

Does the star belong to the restaurant or the chef?

Does they system work different than in Europe??

where is the food best---red cat or perilla?

DITTO

Restaurant Closings in Sono?

Brasserie Molliere is not open during the day........that being said they may have closed.

There was never anyone in the place....too bad, I thought they may have had a chance just based on the beer selection alone!!

Habana.........thank god they finally closed. I don't think I have ever seen a restaurant not change their menu for 10 years and remain open!

Has anyone ever eaten at the bar at Babbo?

Bring your earplugs

Chefs in Fairfield County- Where do you go to eat on your

I drive to New York (or take the train). I'm off this week so I had lunch at the bar at Union Square Cafe the other day followed by dinner at Convivio.

Tomorrow it is the new Porchetta in the East Village for lunch and dinner at Bar Boulod

North Fork Farmstand Recs Needed, Etc.

The only reason that I can think of is it is right after the Holiday weekend and it is a sunday night. There are only 4 rooms at the Inn so I did not mind at all!

North Fork Farmstand Recs Needed, Etc.

I just stayed at NoFo Table and Inn last night. We had a 3 hr. dinner. The fluke crudo with orange fleshed melon was outstanding! Dad the fisherman will have no problems finding something. If you ever get the chance, stay the night in one of the 4 rooms.
We were the only guests and what could be better than Claudia Fleming serving you fresh baked fig scones and frittata with local veggies in the morning with Aldos coffee and the New York Times.......Nothing!!!!

Osetra SoNo

I live in SoNo and I hope they make it. Over the last few years I've seen alot of restaurants come and go........the food is good but they need a PR person to get some buzz going.

I see alot of empty seats on a regular basis.....not good,

Need Recipe for Navettes

I had these "cookies" in Uzes and I can't seem to find a recipe for them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

what roses are you drinking?

IMHO it is way too "hot" for a rose. A rose that exceeds 14% alc is pretty tough to take. I'd rather drink French

Going BACCHUS for More (South Norwalk, CT)

One of my pet peeves: A restaurant that calls itself Bacchus, but does not list the vintages for most of the wines on the list. That is just poor.

spanish in norwalk

I can't believe La Paella has lasted as long as it did.

Manhattan's Best Salad Bars

Where do you go for a great salad bar? The Whole Foods in Columbus Circle seems to be pretty good.

Wher else would you go??

Greenport/North Fork/Shelter Island Dining

I will be out there on a Monday night in July and I need the absolute best dining I can find regardless of price.

HELP!!

P.S. Wine list must be good also!

Wine fridges: specific question

Eurocave is great.......until you have to place a service call. It took a MONTH to get a repairman to my house, and I live in the same town!!

not to miss stops on way from city to mattituck

Hi Lisa,

Are you spending a few days in the area?? Are you cooking in or dining out every night? Lieb cellars is a must stop for their pinot blanc & sparkling pinot blanc.

There is a goat cheese producer in Mattituck that make some of if not the best fresh chevre I've ever eaten.

what roses are you drinking?

I'm on the Kosta Browne mailing list and I love their wines but IMHO, the rose is one of the worst wines I have ever tasted

Nessa - Port Chester

My only experience there a few months ago was poor also. The help was nice enough, food was poor at best. I hope they hire a capable chef. I like the "feel" of the place.

Longford's in Old Greenwich

Longfords makes great ice cream for a local producer. His coconut mounds and espresso nougat flavors are to die for.

What is so appealing about RESTO?

Ditto here.....tasty food....small portions (except the mussels) My wifes Waterzooi was a total joke. It was a $20 bowl of soup. The service was terrible. We asked to speak to the Mgr. when we were leaving and he was vey apologetic and handled it very well.
