Your Thanksgiving 2013 Menus

I got this recipe from a cookbook that came with my Kitchenaid stove back in the early 90s

1 c. pearl barley
1/4 - 1/2 c. pine nuts
3 tbsp. butter
1 med. onion, chopped
1/2 c. minced parsley
1/4 c. minced chives or green onion
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper
3 c. chicken or beef stock, heated to boiling
Chopped parsley for garnish

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Rinse and drain barley. Toast pine nuts in 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet. Remove nuts with slotted spoon and set aside. Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter to skillet and onion and barley, stir until toasted. Stir in nuts, parsley, chives, salt and pepper. Spoon into a 1 1/2 quart casserole. Pour hot stock over casserole and mix well. Bake, uncovered for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Always have a very traditional Thanksgiving here, and with the exception of the barley casserole the menu has not changed in the 40 years I've been hosting Thanksgiving dinner.

My family would have fits if we changed the menu.

"Only in Canada" food items: add to the list

I have no idea if the Nanaimo bars sold here are made from Bird's Custard Powder or not...but Bird's Custard Powder is sold at nearly any large supermarket here in the Seattle area.

I like canned cranberry sauce! What holiday treates do you like that foodies would shudder at?

My memories of it go back to at least the early 1960s...

Indian Food In Seattle

Agree, there is always going to be better restaurants somewhere...but the way some people talk on this board and other boards one would think that Seattle is at the absolute bottom of the culinary scale...

Dishwasher Hell - Bosch Ecosense - Model SHE43P02UC/60

I have the same model Bosch and love it...however I never wash my pots and pans in the I have no advice there.

One thing to keep in mind is that recently all brands of dishwasher detergent were reformulated due to government regulations and no longer contain phosphates. This change has led to many consumer complaints similar to yours
