What goes with olives?

Leftover cold steak slices, cucumbers, feta, cherry tomatoes. Hummus and pita if you want lunch. Add olive oil oregano and lemon and you are set. Oh, arugula too

Why do people find it so strange to take photos of your food?

I love the artistry of a beautiful plate of food. I am happy to be there and i want to share it. Before we all dig in and ruin it. I am not a foodspotter exactly, but when some amazing sushi roll comes out i cant help it

Flap meat and peruano beans!

The broth begins to get cloudy rrather than watery is the best way i can describe it. And the beans are very soft . I really dont time it, so its hard to say how long. Peruanos just seem to have a creamier texture, almost like butter in them. The goat name is because i love them. Lol. I usually cook carnitas with peruanos, the leftovers make amazing tortas burritos and taco

Flap meat and peruano beans!

I love peruanos. Something about their consistency. We make a batch of pot beans first and then will make refried with leftovers. No recipe per se, rinse and put in a pot with enough liquid to cover by a few inches. Throw in rough chopped onion, usually 2 jalapenos and 2 serranos, a couple of garlic cloves, and salt. I watch the water level and cook until they are creamy and not too soupy. We happen to like a lot of peppers and onions in bigger chunks. Refried i mash with a potato masher and cook in a little lard. Or my husband will cook them with soyrizo (which i actually prefer to real chorizo) and potatoes and make amazing breakfast burritos. Pinto beans are ruined for me

I love Roisinboller. A very popular norwegian bread, definately do the raisins.

What's for Low-Carb Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner? #1 (Through July 18, 2013)

I work very early, and spend 12 hours at work. So i have to plan ahead, also limited kitchen at work. I recently discovered how to cook eggs in the microwave with a coffee mug. Such a help! I scramble up the eggs and toss in a little cheese and leftover veggies from last night. Really helps me not get bored of my egg breakfast

mini sandwiches for SuperBowl

I will be doing a chuck roast. My east coast husband initially balked at shredded meat, but now loves it. it is perfect for the buffet style i need, but perhaps not traditional

mini sandwiches for SuperBowl

I will be doing a crockpot of italian beef which is always a hit, and the plus of being easy access for people. Plus i am addicted to the giardiniera

Making stock/broth, do you peel the aromatics?

I also have a freezer bag that certain trimmings get put into. Onion tops, raw carrot trimmings, etc. I dont put all veggies in my veg stock. Ie no bell pepper. But at least teice a month i can make great veg stock for what seems like free to me

Making stock/broth, do you peel the aromatics?

I always leave my onion skins on, throw in the celery tops and middle, and just chunk up my carrots.

What are your culinary resolutions?

To perfect my tamales, can more, spend less, and think ahead. I can not stand how much produce i throw away

Care to share your more unusual recipes?

I make this every year, it is tradition even tho only my husband and i eat it now. Its from my greek "family" a family i am not born of, but they taught me how to cook and enjoy food. I really have never seen anything similar. Curious if you have any strange recipes you cling to for memory (and because its that good) i am also interested in any greek food experts that would weigh in.

Fresh Masa?

If you cant find premade, can you find a bag of masa harina?

Out & About in SD...Day 2

If you can go to pacific beach, and like sushi... go to Sushi Ota. Not the nicest location and a little pricy... but oh so good

10 things food banks want but don't ask for

I know this sounds strange, but dog and cat food is really appreciated. Not for human consumption obviously. My church has a lot of seniors, and it means a lot to them to have their companions. Next favorite thing i can think of is peanut butter

Holiday Parties

I am having a dinner this week for about ten. I will be making posole rojo. So easy to have a pot of soup and then all the condiments on the table to pass around. Cabbage, radish, lime, avocado, tostadas, etc. Xmas food with interaction. Always works for me for a casual get together. Biscochitos for dessert

Tamale time

If you buy your masa preprepared do you doctor it up? I was always told to whip my masa until a spoonful floated in water. I get mine prepared from cardenas and then add a bit of broth, or lard, and some of my cooking juices... i have not tried yet with scratch masa. Curious what you do

Fruit tamales

I do flavored masa, either filled or not. Pineapple and strawberry are traditional. I have to find a blackberry recipe that is awesome. Sweet bean raisin was a total fail. When you buy your masa premade do you doctor it up?

I think what i should have said.. is that i hate when people assume they can tell someone is gay just by looking. Gaydar. Not when someone is proudly being out

Funny thing is, he cooks moose, cans tuna, can make aableskiver and a mean chile verde. Not even sure you decide what makes him fancy. I just hate the gay on sight thing. So not true.

I realize im going off thread. Sorry
