I just read the wine list. Or rather a read the first few pages then I go a headache. I have never seen such a long wine list. To make it worse, I have no idea about any of it except the 2 South African listings!

Lol, we will just leave it to the sommelier. I believe they are very good at Per Se in suggesting a good wine for your price and taste.

Yeah I thought as much. You have no idea how expensive your wine is compared to ours.

I didn't see the wine list. Will search for it.

That's a very good question. I will ask him and let you know.

I can tell you though that if I make him wear a tie he will frown but do it anyway because my parents are taking us to the most expensive restaurant he will EVER eat at.

It's mostly about packing space. My husband's shoes are just so bloody big.

Oh yes tax, it gets me every time. I still don't understand why tax can't just be included. Sigh

So mow much is tax?

Assuming it's about 14% which is what we pay here, I can maybe budget $360 per person incl tax with $40 for wine.

Wait, how much is a bottle of wine? I tried to do some research but answers varied from $300 for Napa Valley wine to $20 for some other wine.

Now you see that's exactly our point. While a black suit would be great and all my husband really is not comfortable in that sort of attire. So now he will be comfortable and look good :)

Exactly what I was just thinking. They're smart pants, those in the picture, with a white shirt and tie and a very nice blazer which I am going to go find.

Oh I totally forgot to mention that we will buy him a jacket for that outfit in the photo.

Packing a jacket is not the problem; it's the whole outfit. Normally he would not pack black shoes, pants etc, so now he also has to pack those extra, plus a suit is bulky. So we're trying to rather do it with the things he would normally wear anyway plus a nice jacket.

I find it easier to travel with a dress outfit - my clothes and shoes are smaller than his! We're not staying at a major hotel.

But point taken. I just have to go buy him a jacket quickly (he really is not a formal dresser) and we will try again.

christy319: what kind of dresses? I have black pants and a very beautiful dark blue wispy thing (hard to explain) with patent leather black heels. Plus I will probably wear a pashmina if it's cool.

ellenost: Really $500 per person? We like to drink wine but I think we're spoilt in South Africa and I'm going to get a shock with our first order of wine in a restaurant. I actually only budgeted $300 per person for a table of 5, do you think that's ok or will we spend more?

After reading all this I begin to wonder if we should have looked around more.

This is all true but can you imagine traveling around a foreign country with a suit just for one dinner at the end?

We're thinking about this (attached) for him. The problem is that most of his clothes are brown so the black suit, shoes etc are just very spacious. (Excuse the un-ironed trousers - it will be done before we go to dinner!)

I know the dress code is fairly smart and men should wear jackets but what exactly do men and women wear to Per Se?

Our booking is for a Friday evening in October at 6pm.

My husband is thinking dressy jeans and smart shirt but perhaps jeans (even very nice ones) are not a good idea? Should I wear business smart or more dressy clothes?
