New thread for discontinued products I loved that wheatberry bread so much. It was the perfect accompiment to my beef stew. I have never found anything close to it. |

Crazy supermarket check-out experience I used to heat water for my morning tea in a really cute teapot. After one two many times of having to go back from work to check that the burner was off, I decided the microwave was the way to go. Good Will got a nice donation. |

snacks or other foods you eat, that others find " gross" I have to eat my favorite cottage cheese snack in private. It grosses everyone out. Four ounces cottage cheese, chopped pineapple, and copious amounts of freshly ground black pepper. (about a full teaspoon) |

Paper burns at 451 degrees fahrenheit. Great Bradbury book, by the way. |

Things kids think are "normal" these days... Both my parents drank percolated black coffee. As kid we used to beg for a taste, but were forbidden since it would turn our heels black. I don't know where they got that from. |

Things kids think are "normal" these days... In my opinion, tuna casserole shouldn't even be served on the first day. |

Things kids think are "normal" these days... Yum, nothing like crunchy Cheetos dredged in cream cheese. I haven't had in several years, but it is a fond memory. |

Really Crappy Unhealthy Disgusting Toe-curling Junkfood! While I haven't had this culinary treat in years, I used to love dipping crispy Cheetos in cream cheese. If that wasn't enough, I would fry up about four pieces of baloney and slap them on white bread with a big slather of Best Foods mayonaise. I was white trash years before i ever heard that term. |

What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid? My brother and I were only served canned spinach once. After watching Tom Hatten and his Popeye show for several years, we just had to have some of that canned spinach so we could be strong like Popeye. Thank God she didn't force us to eat it. |

Food storage -- Help settle a disagreement! Don't worry about that expired Mayo. Growing up, we kept the Mayo in the cupboard. We never got sick from it. |

Good morning. Looking for the ultimate Lunch Box to take to work. THE ULTIMATE This situation could easily be solved with 2 insulated lunch boxes. One for cold and one for hot. This combo should be big enough for your health appetite. |

I created a chili relleno sandwich once. It was delicious, but a pain to make. Whip one egg white and fold in one beaten yoke. Between 2 pieces of white bread place one seeded and slightly cooked anaheim chili pepper (spread out) with two pieces of jack cheese. Coat the sandwich with the egg mixture and fry. Tasty :) |

What's the best thing you personally can make with white sliced sandwich bread? I can't believe no one has mentioned that this is the appropriate bread for fried baloney sandwiches. Add mayo and mustard for a sublime treat. |

What did your Mom always have on hand, that you NEVER do? Mashed sardines on saltines...yum. |

What did your Mom always have on hand, that you NEVER do? Canned spinach...yuck. I only had it once when I was about eight. My brother and I were big Popeye fans, and begged my mother for months to get some canned spinach so we could be like Popeye. |

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 1st quarter 2012 [old] I'd have to say nay to TJ's frozen chile rellenos. I bought 3 and ended up giving away the other two. I haven't heard back from them to hear if they liked them. |

Still Hungry ... Late Night ... How about an Fried Egg Sandwich? This could use a slight improvement. Cut back on the mayo and spread bread with mashed up avocado. So good that it is probably a sin to eat it. |

Did Your Mom Repeatedly Cook a Dish You Despised? What saved me many nasty bites was that we had a table that expanded to place leafs in. Under the table was a small ledge that held a few bites of food. The dog was put out at meal time since my parents were on to the feeding under the table trick. After dinner he was allowed in to clean up the nasty bits. Even he wouldn't touch the peas though. I had to sneak back later to clean those out. Raffles, I miss you. |
