Pinkberry is good - How do I make Frozen Yogurt at home?

My pseudo Pinkberry recipe is:

2 cups nonfat plain yogurt (I just used Alta Dena)
1/2 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup half and half

Blend ingredients together with a hand mixer. Put into ice cream maker and churn until frozen. Serve with your favorite toppings.

The taste is similar to Pinkberry, but the texture is a bit icier. Also, it tastes best right out of the ice cream maker. Once you freeze it, it gets fairly hard and requires some defrost time before it's soft enough to eat again.

ISO Good Salvadoran Restaurants near Van Nuys

I've discovered a passion for Salvadoran food and I'm looking for recommendations. The places I've tried so far are Mi Casita Salvadorena (a little too salty but otherwise like it for takeout) and Mi Ranchito Salvadoreno (pretty bad). What should I try next? Prefer places that do not have an emphasis on mariscos since I can't eat them.

The Loft in Santa Monica (Wilshire/13th)

This place recently took over Anastasia's Asylum. Has anyone been? Wondering if it is still a coffee shop or if it is now a restaurant, what the atmosphere is like, etc.

Tons of restaurants on Westwood Blvd. What's good?

I like Sushi Masu and Ramayani.

Zankou... ???

My most recent visits to the West LA location have been really disappointing. They have skimped on the pickled turnips and there was barely any garlic sauce on my chicken tarna wrap. I've had much better luck at the Van Nuys location.

Ocean and Vine

Any thoughts on this restaurant in the Loews hotel?

Farms, Farming, and Farmers' Markets event at SMPL last night

Did anyone attend last night's event at the Santa Monica Public Library? I'm curious to hear what others thought of it.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Santa Monica Farmers' Market, and to celebrate, the library is hosting a three part discussion series called Farms, Farming, and Farmers' Markets.

This week's discussion addressed the question, "what is the future of California's small farms and how can farmers' markets help keep farmers on their farms?"

I really enjoyed myself--I learned a great deal about farmers' markets, got to meet some of the panelists, and devoured delicious food provided by Evan Kleiman. (Now I must visit Angeli Caffe!)

There will be two more events like this--one Aug. 17 and one Sept. 21, in case you're interested.

ISO Houston food blogs

The Houston Press is Houston's version of the LA Weekly. I have also searched for Houston food blogs and found nothing.

Tender Greens - Open & Excellent

I'm not sure what's so great about the lemonade--I wished I'd gone with one of the microbrews instead--but most of the food I tried was very good, though it wasn't served hot. I'd get the flatiron steak sandwich, the spinach salad, and the lemon cupcake again, but I'd skip the grilled chicken and the butter lettuce salad. The mashed potatoes were also very good. Service was fast (maybe they could have spent some more time making my food hot?).

izakaya-style restaurants.

I love Musha for izakaya. Great atmosphere, great service, great (and interesting) food. I think FuRaiBo on Sawtelle is also considered izakaya--it's very inexpensive, popular, and loud, but the food is also good and the menu is huge.

Place for a 1st date

Lucques would fit your description perfectly. Nice outdoor patio, extensive wine list, award-winning food, WeHo location.

I also like Orris, but the outdoor patio is no good for a date (Sawtelle traffic).

Avocado ice cream

Possibly at 99 Ranch or another Asian grocery store.

For desserts I love Bhan Kanom Thai in Hollywood. They sell a multitude of Thai pastries and other goodies.

ISO Good Oaxacan besides Guelaguetza and Monte Alban

I've recently started exploring Oaxacan cuisine and I'm wondering where I should go in addition to Guelaguetza and Monte Alban?
