Rome for my Better Half's 40 birthday....i dont want to screw this up!

we are in Rome the second week Oct. staying on Via Veneto (Grand Marriott) - are any of these delightful sounding places remotely close to where we're staying?

La Brasserie Lorraine

So we booked a dinner in advance. But on our first night walking around we stumbled upon it - and decided to go ahead. So our first dinner there - was fantastic. Service was delightful, and the sea bass divine. The next night(when we had our actual reservation) we returned. None of the staff recalled us from night before - no matter. Again, the waiter was fabulous, the food amazing, foie gras melts on your tongue and the liver was beyond heavenly. So we planned to have dinner with an old friend also in Paris that week, and we opted for La Lorraine based on the first 2 nights - we came on on a Saturday and it was HELL. You woldnt know it was the same place. Staff bickering, running around, they may have been understaffed and couldnt keep up with all the customers. They parked a baby carriage right next to my seat at my table. UNBELIEVABLE. Take your chances - if it's a good night you will dine like kings. If its a busy one, you're out of luck

Les Grand Cafe Capucines

Le Grand Factory, is more like it. We dined there, after great anticipation, on our second night. The staff seated us, then took a drink order. When they returned we werent ready to order - and then it took 20minutes to get the waiter's attention. There was a shift change which made things worse. Bottles and glasses piled up, making the small table very crowded. The food? Who remembers that, when they treat you so poorly. They wrote an email asking how we liked it, and we told them, we didnt'. I may have had steak, who knows. Over rated on all accounts.

i get the message, and just nervous about navigating around Paris for first time...ok bravely reviewing first suggestions and ignoring distance

Yes on a map everything seems far away though. For ex, if we're in the 8th, is something near Bastille or Opera a long cab ride? La lorraine is recommended below but on Zagat the reviews are very erratic. I have heard FLO are dependable.

we're going to Paris, Oct.1-11 and looking for brasseries, we are near Champs, near Arc de T. Preference: French (ie, not Mediterranean or Asian). Can you help?
