Can anyone recommend a good Mexican restaurant suitable to take 8 and 6 year old girls? Thanks!

That sounds good - do you have a recipe?

Help! I need your best turkey leftover recipes!

Sounds great! I think I'm going to try your broccoli, white cheese sauce idea tonight.

Help! I need your best turkey leftover recipes!

I bought a turkey a wee bit too big for Canadian Thanksgiving and now I have lots leftover. (highly recommend the free range, organic turkeys, very yummy) What can I do with all of this yummy leftover turkey?

Thanks!

Urgent! Need recs for restaurant near Convention Centre in Vancouver

Thanks! It's my hubby who is on the mad search so I'll put that to him.

Urgent! Need recs for restaurant near Convention Centre in Vancouver

I need a recommendation for a Vancouver restaurant who can accommodate a group of 20 for dinner. Menu needs to be broad (ie like a Milestones or Earl's broad) and price point mid to upper-mid range. Any ideas? It needs to be walking distance from Convention Centre. (or short cab ride if pouring rain...)

Thanks so much!

Need recs....birthday dinner with kids in Seattle

Thanks so much for the suggestions!!

Need recs....birthday dinner with kids in Seattle

My husband and will be celebrating our 45th birthdays in Seattle in November. We'll have our girls with us (5 and 7) and are looking for recommendations for dinner out. We love sushi but some other asian food is off-limits for us because my daughter has a peanut allergy and sadly, it's just too tricky to negotiate the kitchens of Thai, Malaysian and Chinese. North American-style and European restaurants are fine. We'll be staying in Pioneer Square (Best Western) but we are transit-savvy and we will have a car (although, it's a birthday dinner, so we'd like to take transit so we can have a glass of something..)

Any recommendations? thanks!

Recs for Portland restaurants - travelling with 6 and 4 year old girls

We are going to be in Portland and staying at Park Lane Suites (809 SW King Ave) and would love some recs for good spots to eat with our 4 and 6 year old. 6 year old has a peanut allergy so asian restaurants are out (except for sushi, which we can navigate around..)

Also, I would love a rec for a great cup of coffee in Portland.

Bellingham area with kids....can you recommend somewhere?

That is great! I will keep that in mind....thanks!

Suggestions for Mount Pleasant Bakeries?

It's a great place to go for soup (black bean and lime chili is my favourite) a panini. or other treats They make a lot of swedish specialities and I have often ordered cakes from them (again, you have to call ahead and they don't make them every day..chocolate is my favourite) My girls love their chocolate coated heart cookies and we often pick up bread from them too.

If you live around the corner, I suggest picking a lovely warm day and ordering a pitcher of their wonderful lemonade, something to eat and sitting on their outside tables with a good friend or a good book. Ah, bliss.

Thanks so much! You've given me lots of ideas.

Bellingham area with kids....can you recommend somewhere?

Yes it was!!! Thanks so much!!! We'll probably try that or the burger place. Cheers!

Suggestions for Mount Pleasant Bakeries?

I love Liberty which is a bakery at 21st and Main. Not a Chinese bakery, the owners are Swedish, but I'm sure you would love it.

And if you're not in the mood for baked goods, but want some soup, try the black bean soup with lime chili there (don't forget the lime chili..that is the best part!)

Bellingham area with kids....can you recommend somewhere?

It's been a few years but we are going down to the Bellingham area with our 4 and 6 year old girls. Can you recommend somewhere? I remember that when I asked before, there was a great pizza place recommended which we loved....but I cannot remember the name.

6 year old daughter has a peanut allergy so sadly, Thai, Malaysian and Chinese food places are out. :(

Dinner near Main Street Vancouver

Thanks so much! I have walked by Latitiude and wondered about it.....where is Campaganolo? What kind of food? Thanks!

Dinner near Main Street Vancouver

We have been out of the restaurant loop for a while, thanks to raising young children and a limited budget. But it is Birthday time and we want to go out for a memorable meal. Suggestions? We live near Main and 16th in Vancouver.

Service in Vancouver...another disappointment in Pied a Terre

Yeah, I guess so. Still, it really affects my experience to have slow service. (maybe I am unduly picky because we can't go out as often and I want each time to be good)

Service in Vancouver...another disappointment in Pied a Terre

I love Vij's!!! That should be our next pick!

Service in Vancouver...another disappointment in Pied a Terre

Eating at a higher end restaurant is a rare treat for us now, thanks to a growing family. We usually manage it twice a year at best. After dining at Bishops a few times over the years, I am always left disappointed at the level of service at other restaurants. (the service at Bishops is unsurpassed) Our latest disappointment was Pied a Terre. The room was packed and there were only two servers for everyone. Yikes!

Why won't other restaurants learn from John Bishop? Excellent service is such a great complement to a delicious meal. I find it so frustrating to pay so much for a meal and have mediocre or disappointing service.

I'm tired. Need inspiration: kid-friendly food.

Thanks Diane!!! Those are great suggestions. Funnily, my kids LOVE sushi. I love the suggestion about the mini-quiches and the pureed vegetables too.

What are your favourite recipes for feeding your kids? (mine are 2 and 4 years old) I have been overworked and overtired these days and need to be inspired by some new recipes. Thanks so much!!

Good cheap eats while in Van on a course

I highly recommend Shiro (as many others have). You can find a casual-type organic lunch at Capers Grocery store (now Whole Foods) (16th and Cambie) Wonderful hand made noodles are at Shao-Lin (in the 500 block of Broadway) Great pizza is at Martini's (300 block of Broadway, east of Cambie, about a 15 minute walk) Enjoy!!! You are in a great neighbourhood.

Are there any peanuts or peanut products used in Japanese cuisine?

Okay, not sure if this is on the right board.......

Are there any peanuts or peanut products used in Japanese cuisine (as one would find in a North American Japanese restaurant) Our daughter has a peanut allergy and is a big sushi lover, (as we all are) I was assuming that there were no peanuts in Japanese cuisine (everytime we ask at a Japanese restaurant, they tell us there is no peanut in house) However, an allergy book listed Japanese restaurants (along with all Asian restaurants) as ones to avoid.

Can anyone think of a peanut product that might be in use?

Cheers.

Best Burger in Vancouver - what's your vote?

Waaaaaaa! I was hoping it would be great. Please post again if you try it out again. I also live in the hood so I might try it as well.........

Is a jellyroll pan the same as a cookie sheet?

I can't sleep until I get the answer to this burning question. Please help the insomniac. Thanks!

Sure-fire pastry recipe....may I have yours?

I would love your sure-fire pastry recipe. I am planning on making apple pie for Christmas......I'm sure I had a recipe for pastry from this board but I can't seem to find it.

So...does anyone have one that is almost always successful? Cheers!

Your favourite cookbooks for cooking for kids

That sounds great! I didn't know that Mollie Katzen had a cookbook for kids! I will check it out......

Your favourite cookbooks for cooking for kids

I love Chef Bobo's cookbook....(which I found out by reading this board, thank-you!) Are there anymore out there like it? I'd love to think that my 2 and 4 year old are going to wolf down hot curries etc., but they just will not so Chef Bobo is great for adapting good recipes to developing North American pallettes. Any other good cookbooks I can try too?

Henry's...Vancouver

" even I don't really really want to eat overlooking the Safeway parking lot.".....lol!
Thanks so much. I think we will try it for lunch and I'll report back. MIL is taking us for a birthday lunch so my one worry was the price (MIL is...well....cheap). I guess if she doesn't like the price we can always go to Safeway for a sandwich at Starbucks....;)
