Sottocasa - Neapolitan Pizza in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn

Went mid-October and tried the Laura and Reginella. Flavor was great for the Laura, but the Reginella was a little too watery with all the tomatoes. Love that they're cooking in a wood-fired oven, but the balance isn't quite there yet in the crust -- both pies ended up soggy by the end. However, the crust was chewy and delicious. They just need some time to work out the cooking timing or heat, I think. After ordering, our pies were on the table within 5 minutes, and they could've used some extra time in the oven.

This will be my new go-to pizza place in the neighborhood for quick pizza. The space is minimalist yet cozy, the backyard is inviting. It was a much needed addition, though I'll still head over to Frannys when I want a perfect pizza.

Mackinac Island Restaurants

Ate our first meal out as newlyweds here and was really pleased. If a place can cook your steak well and as ordered, they know what theyre doing. The view in particular made it more special--we watched the moon rise over the horizon.

suggestions for mackinac island???

Agree on the Carriage House. Good, classic cocktails, excellent water views (we watched the moonrise) and perfectly cooked steaks. I was expecting so-so because of the island setting and limited choices but I was really pleasantly surprised by all the deliciousness. The menu is pretty traditional, yet it felt special. A good Ender to the meal: homemade hot fudge sundaes and letting us take our drinks to the room.

Traverse City, MI - good eats?

Covered wagon in suttons bay, just down 204 has wonderful pies made by Linda, the proprietor. Nothing beats homemade.

Side note on Suttons Bay, found a couple of faves: o'keefes for chili dogs, lil' bee (I think?) for iceys and martha 's leelanau table for farm fresh meals all around.

Traverse City, MI - good eats?

I agree, we stopped In amical because of posts here and it was just so-so. Had a bland pizza and the sandwiches were average. However, I was very surprised by Poppycocks recently. Looks like an upscale diner but had fresh, interesting menu items. Had a special goat cheese, walnut, cherry and sweet potato spinach salad with a strawberry-maple dressing--somehow, all the ingredients complemented each other. The hanger steak app was cooked well, and was well seasoned, and the daily soups were interesting flavor combos (like tomato, spinach, Swiss) that again, oddly, worked. Thumbs up!

TraverseCity/Petoskey greater area--Gourmet dining/winery

Cooks house catered our wedding recently -- couldn't have asked for a better meal and got many compliments from our guests about ours being the only wedding where they wanted seconds! So glad we booked them pre-Batali :). also their cookbook is wonderfully written and a good read aside from recipes. Obviously can't praise them enough!

It was the suttons bay farm/inn location for Black Star, but Old Mission was lovely too on a smaller scale. Everyone is so friendly and talkative. We ended up holding an event here and they were extremely accommodating.

Interestingly, there are some rules about what can be sold from the different peninsulas if a winery has more than one tasting room. I think you won't always find the same wines between the black star rooms.

Be sure to stop at Blackstar Farms ... had a 2008 Arcturos Cabernet Franc that was impressive, and their raclette cheese is also amazingly good. Being originally from Michigan, it was a really pleasant surprise -- and I know Blackstar has a cafe that may be open for lunch. Haven't tried it, though.

Also, Food and Wine recently did a story about the area and mentioned some restaurants. Cook's House sounds interesting. This might help: http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/m...
