Best gourmet ice cream and patisserie?

You beat me to it. I realized my error immediately!!! It's been a while, and half my hub's family is Turkish from way back, so that was stuck in my mind. Enjoy, Kevin! I'll see you there. And while I'm here, I still mourn the late lamented Robin Rose Ice Cream, on Rose Avenue in Venice.

Best gourmet ice cream and patisserie?

While this question was posited by someone over a year ago, I never pass on the opportunity to extol the amazing Turkish (sic) style ice cream of Mashti Malone, of course. 1575 N. La Brea. There are standard flavors that are incredible, but the exotics (to us) of things like rosewater and saffron are amazing for those of us who like perfumey flavorings. They will give you samples, so you can try some of the more unusual flavors without committing. Ice cream may be even more popular in Turkey than it is here, so they have refined it to an art form. They also carry some really amazing pastries and desserts, including this odd flossy like spun candy-like substance like sesame cotton candy that is insane. Correction, it's Persian-style.

I Lost It for Flicks at the Movies

I had very fond memories of Flicks and the variety of shiny metallic foils they came in. I had to consider which color I felt like, as if that affected the taste of the delicious cocoa-y treats. When I first saw them as Cost Plus a few years ago, I was thrilled. Alas, the unique flavor was no more. Still, I purchased some last week for my daughter to take on a plane trip as a little treat. Before handing them over, I took a photo with them to post on a nostalgia-oriented facebook page I hang out on, where Flicks are remembered with near-religious fervor. I'll give these new ones a try, hanging on to them through the trailer to give them a fighting chance.

Pizza Del Popolo Blows Up the Food Truck

Great industrial design. I wonder how customizing a freight container costs out in comparison to a standard food truck.

DON'T think PINK: Pink's (Hot Dog Stand) Revisited

Carney's is so superior. Delicious food, and fast, efficient, and interesting workers. Love the one on Sunset.

Great Chilidogs

Wanted to add my enthusiastic thumbs up to Carney's, who apparently just won a chowhound taste test. I'm always bemused when I see the line at Pinks. I understand the entertainment value of joining the throng, but their hot dog left both hubs and me cold, and their chili, well, did something else entirely. Carney's chili dog and fries are such stuff as dreams are made of.

The, Um, Breast Milk in the Fridge

Next time I'm reading all the comments before writing. I see I'm not the only one grossed out not by breast feeding, but by putting the pristine breast pump equipment on the possibly germ-laden communal drying wrack. Come to think of it, my mug's not going there either!

The, Um, Breast Milk in the Fridge

Even though you have every right to put your drying pump parts on the rack, why in the world would you? You must realize that that cupcake-swiping miscreant doesn't wash his/her mug/plate with any diligence before placing it in the rack next to baby Snook's meal ticket. As for putting medical items requiring refrigeration in the common fridge. I would, but probably in a securely-closed and private container. I trust no one when my child's health is concerned. Too many idiots have seen the Jackass movies. And yes, I did breast feed.

Brown's Bakery Wilshire

If I'm not mistaken, all the Gelson's contract with Victor Benes. They are still consistently good, but I'm seeing some decline in the quality of late.

Brown's Bakery Wilshire

I think Diamond's is still pretty good. Their rugelah is not too dry, with lots of chocolate, and/or nuts or other flavorings. Their pumpernickel raisin bread, sold by the inch (!) is still phenomenal. And it so sad to to see so many bakeries go out. Yes, all the birthday cakes for my now 17 year old daughter were first from Brown's Victory until they closed, then Fred's on Robertson until Cissy sold it. Now, Michel Richard is also gone, I think.

Rosh Hashanah Dinner in LA

I hate to spill the beans, but they have a lovely menu for Rosh Hashanah, complete with apples and honey. This year they'll be serving it Sept. 8th and 9th. L'shanah tovah.
