REAL BRIT BANGERS & MASH, YORKSHIRE PUDDING - ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Any suggestions on where I can find the best spots for authentic Brit Bangers & Mash, Yorkshire Pudding in the GTA ?

Where's the best fried chicken in the GTA ?

Had a really bad experience with Popeyes recently and found out through the process that the Canadian Popeyes operate pretty well on their own with very little quality controls by the US company. There isn't a Canadian home office or CS dept to monitor quality standards.
Have never heard of Harlem or Stockyards, some details and taste comments please.
Where are they ?

BEST BIRYANI RE-OPENS

I just paid a visit to Best Biryani's new location @ 2352 Middlefield , corner of Denison.
Mr. Qadeer and his wife was there and had my 2 boxes of chicken biryani ready at 12:45pm
as promised. Nicer place and price is right @ $3.99 ! Taste like the old recipe, perhaps a little
less spicy today. Large portion as before, nice. Good to have them back !

Malaysian uptown?

You'll find some great reviews here on Garden Gourmet. They're probably the best for authentic Singapore-Malaysian food but unfortunately, no decor to speak of.

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Finally got to Eastern Foods today, YES. Much like the defunct Best Biryani,
take-out only, but very well done the old fashion way with all the real stuff.
Rice was superb with home made spices and the chicken was well seasoned.
This is definitely the place to go for good Chicken Biryani.
Many thanks for the lead, will try Desi Corner next and let you all know.

Singapore-style Laksa downtown Toronto?

Lots of clams but no sight of cockles in any restaurants-doubt they even heard of them. I've seen them occasionally in the frozen fish section in Chinese & Filipino supermarkets, common in England.

Singapore-style Laksa downtown Toronto?

Thks for the feedback, I'll give them another try in case they had an "off day"'
it happens even at GG, not the same when the apprentice does it.

Singapore-style Laksa downtown Toronto?

Finally took a drive up to Coconut Island to try their Curry Laksa.
I'm from Singapore and they definitely DO NOT serve Singapore laksa.
Theirs is a mild-spiced up version of what we in Singapore call Hokkien Mee (soup version). Singapore laksa is spicy with laksa sauce (not curry), heavy on coconut milk,
with either beehoon or li-fun, with whole shrimp, sliced fish cake, fried tofu, boneless
chicken and the elusive cockle. Then there's the topping of hot sambal blachan ( chili
shrimp paste) . Coconut Island's soup was tasty with a nice shrimp flavour but
hokkien mee (yellow noodles) in Singapore Laksa? No coconut milk, no fish cake and no sambal blachan...$7.50 Ouch ! So back to GG @ Sheppard/Brimley, everything
in an authentic Singapore Laksa (minus cockles), a treat @ $5.80 !

Scaramouche - The very best

Do you happen to know name of the the chef who did such a memorable dish ?

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Thanks.

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Yes, too bad ,got word from the grocery store nearby. Best Biryani is gone.

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Thanks. Will check them out. Got a box @ Ghareebs Danforth/Brimley and was very disappointed. Lots of packet flavoured rice, worst was the chicken, 2 small pcs of bony
chicken at least a day old. Can't understand why the Post wrote them up.
I tried Babu's lamb biryani @ McCowan ( S Major Mac.), nice flavour but rice was mushy
maybe I went too late (10:30pm), staff was friendly and offered bits to taste.
I found the Biryani Depots to be the best of the 3, maybe 'cos the chicken was juicy and
tasted freshly cooked, tho' the rice was so-so. Still looking for a place with the
real spices, sure miss Best Biryani Corner, who by the way, is out of business.

WTF - Churros in Toronto

Last time I had great churros was in Miami..with cuban coffee ! They make them small, deliciously -melt in mouth with a slight crunch-and a dusting of sugar. Aren't there any cubans
here on chowhound who can tell us where to get great churros ??

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Any word from your source on Best Bryani @ Sheppard and McCowan ?

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Thanks ! Sounds good to me.

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

Has anyone gone to Best Biryani Corner lately? They used to be @ Sheppard/Birchmount and someone told me they moved to Lawrence/Brimley but I can't find them. Are they gone?
Does anyone have a fetish for really good biryani @ a good price and suggest a place?

HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE " HYLAM KAI-FAN"

Thanks. I've tried Phoenix , chicken is OK but doesn't have the aroma and the chili sauce was very disappointing. The rice was bland. You need to gently fry the uncooked rice in chicken fat, that sounds
hi-cal, but that gives it that fatty golden color. Cook the rice in chicken broth, using a rice cooker is fine
but go abit short on water which gives it a grainier end result. Don't forget to salt your broth for flavour !

HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE " HYLAM KAI-FAN"

So what's the word on the best tasting hainanese chicken rice joint in Toronto and vicinity ?
I've even tried doing it myself but simply can't get the chicken right....help !

Soup Kambing

Does anyone know where to get Soup Kambing in or around Toronto, OR if you have a recipe for it ?

Singapore-style Laksa downtown Toronto?

Garden Gourmet on Sheppard & Brimley is as good as it gets, if you get the older "see-fu" or the owner.
Probably the closest taste to home. If anyone has tried GG and know of anywhere else let me know !
I tried alot of places claiming authentic Singapore/Malaysian but try asking for sambal and see if they
know what you're talking about. They've got popiah on wkends.
