We are back from our Las Vegas trip. We ate at Bachi Burger, Olives, Michael Mina, L'Attelier, and Raku. I could write pages about the meals. But the bottom line is this: we ate foie gras at every restaurant, and our total for the five dinners was $1150.90. We would gladly have spent this money in California, were it not for the foie gras ban. |

Looks like we will not be going to Andre's: |

Add Fleur to the list of places with two preparations. Generally, when a place has two preps, they will be a predictable torchon and seared foie. |

We are starting to think about our next trip to Vegas, in November. From their web sites, I find the following Foie Gras info: L'Atelier 5 preparations (L'Atelier also shows two serving sizes of what they claim is genuine Iberico Belotta.) Le Cirque 4 preparations Raku 4 preparations (two of them appear to be similar) Michael Minna 3 preparations Andre 2 preparations Alize 2 preparations There are lots of places with one preparation. |

Splendid! |

Thanks. I went back and looked at the menu for Raku more closely. They have four preparations at the moment. The rest of the menu looks interesting also. Have it on my must do list. |

My foie gras google alert just told me that there is foie gras at Marche Bacchus. Surely there must be other places "off strip" that serve it? |

We are Californians who get to Las Vegas once or twice a year. Before the foie gras ban went into effect, we had four amazing foie dinners, at Village Pub in Woodside, Pacific's Edge in Carmel, Martin's Gastropub in Redwood City and a private Dishcrawl event. We keep hoping that some restaurant in Las Vegas will offer a menu with four to seven foie dishes. I would be willing to go to a high end restaurant with two or three preparations. But I am also looking for more casual places in the area if they only offer one. Barrymore and Bachi Burger seem like possibilities. Can anyone suggest other places that won't cost hundreds of dollars? My favorite place for foie in California was Bistro Elan (now Birch Street) in Palo Alto, if that gives anyone a better idea of what we have in mind. |

Squirt imported from Mexico - where to buy? Don't know. The printed labeling was all in Spanish. Says "Quitased Squirt El de Toronja con Jugo". On line translators don't recognize Quitased. |

Squirt imported from Mexico - where to buy? I found some in a local mexican grocery in Hollister. It took a magnifying glass to read the paper label that was attached. Which listed Aspertame, not sugar or corn syrup. Buyer beware. |

The best chili relleno in Tucson? I had the chile rellenos at Los Nopales last night. Thought they were outstanding. The place is a bit hard to find. ----- |

The milk pail has a pretty good selection of cheese. |

We have a spudnut shop in Hollister. I ate a lot of spudnuts as a kid, and these sure taste like they have potato flour in them. |

Brand new in Silicon Valley: where should I eat? We eat at Bistro Elan a couple of times a year, always on a Friday evening. Padrig is a gracious matre d. And we always ask for Ed Nieto to be our server. He is a kick. Don't know what other days he works. We discovered him at an amazing place called The Dining Room in San Mateo, long gone. ----- |

I strongly second the recommendation for Bistro Elan,. Foie gras is no longer on the menu, but it is available. Call ahead if you want to be sure. I love La Foret (we went there tonight), but the one time I had the foie gras, I was very disappointed. Tiny portion, cooked to death. ----- La Foret Restaurant |

When I want a burger in the Palo Alto area, I go to the California Cafe in the Barn on the Stanford Campus. I rarely go anywhere else for a burger. Right up there with the Village Pub, if not better. ----- |
