Bahn Mi in South Austin?

It was open as of this past Thursday, had a great Bhan Mi, and a noodle bowl, really fresh, and a good size, order with an egg on top. Owners were wonderful.

Trader Joe's Coming - Seaholm

Personally, I've never been overly impressed, can't really think of anything new or original they'll bring to town. Yawn!!

"Simple" Tacos

El Taco Rico, El Taco Rico, El Taco Rico, El Taco Rico, El Taco Rico, El Taco Rico, El Taco Rico, perhaps the best in Austin, fresh homemade tortillas, the barbacoa is beyond description, the ladies are fab....run don't walk!!!

Austin Food and Wine Festival- worth going to?

Me thinketh the same!!

LA Hound coming into town; any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, but you must give some love to the Horseshoe Lounge, in the same shopping center as Barley Swine and truly Austin. Great jukebox, $1.50 beers and .50 cent shuffleboard and all the locals you can stand.

Which trailer park to take out of town guests

I think the perfect place to start is the East Side Drive-in at 6th & San Marcos, after you walk down to 6th & Rio Grande, both have about 4 to 6 trailers in each, Way South Philly, Salvation Pizza, Bits and Druthers to name a few. In addition there are 2 (i think) east side king trailers located in Shangri-La and the Grackle, all within walking distance of each other. If your still hungry, Rainey Street has got a good group, Cazamance, G'Raj Mahal , El Naranjo and Budare's Arepas, as well as South 1st, Izzozs Tacos, Little Thai food, Mueller BBQ and Gordough's donuts.

Where is your favorite place to watch the UT game, have a good meal and get ice cold beer on tap?

Okay, take it a step further, what Austin dive with cold beer is gonna have the game on ?????

Anyone tried Frietkot?

Tried them about a week ago, gotta say I wasn't impressed, they were greasy, overcooked and worst of all I think the oil was old...it had that bitter taste. Best I can say is I thought they were seasoned well.

Food Cart Crawl

I agree with Izzoz's, we've been eating them forever, we love John the owner, but in this situation I am looking for smaller portions and his tacos are just to big!!! As far as ending, at Duck and Gordough's we plan on splitting things, so portions are very tiny, including the donuts, taking cutting board and knife.....tiny tiny portions!!!

Food Cart Crawl

Chef, I'll have you know we did early recon this past Saturday and we each had only 1, it was tough but I fight the good fight, I guess I was sticking them first so we know the standard to judge by and I thought they close around 8ish and all the other carts stay open later????

Food Cart Crawl

We will be hitting them later in the evening, we thinking tacos el rico early, since I think they close earlier than most.

Food Cart Crawl

Doing a food cart crawl with friends this Saturday, big van and designated driver. We would like to do about 5, East Side Kings, Odd Duck and Gourdough's are on the list. We want to end at Odd Duck and Gourdough's. I would like to add tacos for sure and perhaps BBQ. Would have love to add Franklins, but went by today and they were sold out at 1:30 and we won't even be starting till about 4:00. Give me some suggestions please!!!!

R I P part II

No rumor, that's a fact!!

Is there a good philly cheese steak in Austin??

Looking for the best and most authentic. What makes it real, is it the meat, does it have to be shaved rib eye steak, what about the roll and let's not forget the all important cheese, wiz or provolone???? Do you do the condiments onions, mushrooms and peppers??? Inquiring minds want to know.

1063 Lıcensed Food Traılers ın Austın and I Ate at Each One

Little bit off the mark, I too love trailer food, what type of cuisine are we missing at our trailers?

An Essay on Austin,Texas Food in 2009:From Sugar's to Justine's and Everything in Between

hey chef, can I ask where you ate in new orleans, heading there in January, would love to here your recs.

Can't say enough good things about Parkside, great burgers, love the mac and cheese, oysters on Wednesday. We've eaten at Fabi & Rosi, cozy place the pork belly was perfect, the veal and spatzle was a mixed bag, veal was great, the spatzle was not traditional, as I know it, more like a sphaghetti than the little buttons of pasta and I did not detect that it had been fried in butter before serving. The bee hive cake was tasty but perhaps a bit dry. Go to spots has to be Hebenaros-carnitas and T&S seafood, salt&pepper shrimp

Tamales for Christmas Party

Both Nueva Onda by the South Congress HEB and Habneros on Oltorf sell them by the dozen. At Nueva Onda you might have to order in advance.

Best Steak not in a Steakhouse

Eating out with friends this weekend, long story short, they always want steak at traditional steakhouses, looking for a compromise, best steak not in a steakhouse in the downtown area. Thanks for the help.

Which Food Magazine Do You Love???

Want to treat myself to a food magazine, looking at either Bon Appetit or Gourmet, what are your favorites????

Alamo Food & Film Event

I am interested in attending the Julia & Julie food & film event, and want to know what the quality of food is like??? Anyone been????

Thanks for the input!!

Restaurant.com Special Promo

This seems like a great deal and a way to try new places. I have looked at the spots listed in my area and want to make sure I understand this right. If they say a $35 dollar minimum, does that mean that you can use a $25 certificate and pay the other $10 or can you use 2 certificates??

New Restaurant in old Malaga building

Tried Peche last night, the space is pretty much the same. We had the Monte Cristo and Steak w/frites. Gotta agree with Nab, they were some of the best fries I've had in a long time, so perfectly seasoned, light, crispy, they were addictive. The steak was ordered medium rare and was served medium rare, quality of the meat wasn't the best I've ever had, but they did an excellent job sear and season wise, quite tasty for $14. The Monte Cristo was okay, it was done just fine, but for some reason I didn't especially care for it. Didn't try any drinks, but food will bring us back.

El Salvador

Nab,

You can get pupusas at El Zunzal on east 7th, in the same shopping center as HEB.

Corazon

Thanks, steph, that was my intent.

Corazon

We went on Friday, the food was average at best, had the carnitas, very little flavor, dry, chopped, almost minced. Habanero at $6.95 is twice the plate and flavor wise blows Corazon at $9.95 out of the water. The queso portion was tiny and bland, bland, bland. My partner had the chicken enchiladas, took a taste, below average at best. If their goal is to be upscale, ala, Manuels, then they have a long, long way to go.

Dong Nai ???

Just finished reading review on this place in the Chronicle. I had never heard of it, they got a good review and I was curious what ya'll thought?? It would be great to find some places closer to the downtown area. Anybody eaten there??? Thanks!!

Salt Lick BBQ

Got to say, I agree, my goodness, Sam's and House Park are head and shoulders above Salt Lick and you'll save about $50 in gas!!! When we have out of town visitors, we either take them to Lockhart or or Sam's or House Park. Just depending on how much we like them!!!

lulu b's:vietnamese sandwiches/snacks in 78704!

okay, it was great, great, great, we had the shrimp/avacado egg rolls and the pork sandwich. You really can't get any fresher, the cukes, carrots, cilantro and peppers were fab in the sandwich and the service was wonderful!! We will be back!!!

Burgers, Burgers, Burgers, and a side of fries

I have to agree bout Phil's, it was one of the worst burgers I've ever had. Way overcooked, dry, tasteless, prepattied garbage and the fries were some of the worst I've ever had. Limp, soggy greasy. In fact, Phil's was the one of the meals where we left it barely eaten and went somewhere else and had a decent dinner. On top of that I found the service to be barely competent, they really could care less.

Pool with eats

I'm looking for a place where we can have some decent food and after play some pool or shoot some darts. I know there's gotta be a few places, but nothing comes to mind. Thanks for the help.
