Where can I find great CHEESE DANISH in LA?

Thanks to all of you... these choices all sound yum-a-licious!

Where can I find great CHEESE DANISH in LA?

Thanks, wienermobile. Unfortunately I'm one of the few people on Planet Earth without a Costco membership! (I think I'm intimidated by the sheer magnitude of the place...)

Where can I find great CHEESE DANISH in LA?

Hi Hounds,

Not wanting to drive all the way to Solvang, where can I find a really good cheese danish in Los Angeles?

I want to purchase an entire danish (not just a slice). Checked out the Danish bakery downtown HYGGE, but did not have luck in finding cheese danish there... unless they've added it recently.

Thanks for your help!

Minetta Tavern

Went to Minetta recently. Found the seating crammed and uncomfortable, and the Black Label Burger super-MEH: overpriced and overrated.

The one saving grace was the Grand Marnier Souffle... awesome!

I'm glad I tried the place, but the menu is not exciting enough to lure me back. Wish they had dishes featuring duck, quail or lobster. Too many typical beef options.

Place to go just for DESSERT (Grand Marnier Souffle)??!!

Thanks, uwsister! Due to a schedule change, we ended up reserving there for 5:30pm on a Sunday. Hopefully Minetta is not one of those places that rush you out!

Merci, RCC!

Place to go just for DESSERT (Grand Marnier Souffle)??!!

Is there a place to go if we just want to get dessert, especially if we're craving a Grand Marnier souffle?

Bonus points if it's open late! Thanks!

Need "beautiful place with good crowd" like Buddakan for out-of-town guest

Just made a dinner reservation for "Beauty & Essex" in December. Can't wait to check it out... the photos of the place are gorgeous!

Thanks, tex! I'm guessing ANNISA is a good place for conversation too, right? Not too loud (like a STANTON SOCIAL).

orthorunner: Thanks! Are there any dishes you ordered @ PUBLIC that really stood out?

Jumping on this thread too! Would love to know who has the best food out of all the places mentioned: BUDDAKAN, SPICE MARKET, PUBLIC or BEAUTY & ESSEX. Thanks!

YXTA closed on Sundays: Need other Mexican recs (btwn downtown & WeHo)!

Thanks, cls.

We may end up going to MAS MALO downtown because it's literally within walking distance to where I live. Plus, it sounds like they have Happy Hour 7 days a week (until 6pm)... though if anyone could confirm this, that would be greatly appreciated!

YXTA closed on Sundays: Need other Mexican recs (btwn downtown & WeHo)!

Thanks, Chowpatty! Yeah, the Mexican food doesn't have to be GREAT... just good enough.

Do you have any thoughts on LA PARILLA, BARRAGAN'S or EL CONQUISTADOR? Any places I should definitely stay away from (for fear of food poisoning)?

I was also considering EL CHOLO downtown... but they make you valet-park for $4.50, which is annoying.

We really wanted to check out YXTA, the downtown Mexican place recommended for good margaritas and decent Mexican food at reasonable prices. But they're closed on Sunday.

Any other recommendations for Mexican places between downtown and WeHo (that are similar to YXTA)?

Thanks!

RCC: Thanks! Gotham strikes me as a place that is lively... without being obnoxiously loud.

Thanks, kathryn. It probably will be on a WEEKNIGHT... some time AFTER Thanksgiving. So no worries yet.

rrems: I meant "warm lighting". Hard to describe, but it's the kind of lighting that makes everyone look great! For example, Dylan Prime in Tribeca has a nice, warm lighting. (No fluorescents, not glaring/too harsh or bright.)

Thanks, rrems! We're also open to restaurants in Tribeca. Have you been to The Harrison?

P.S. My friend is a huge fan of good lighting in a restaurant!

Help! GOTHAM or ANNISSA for special downtown dinner?

Hey Everybody,

I've been away from Manhattan for a while and wanted to catch up with a friend over a special dinner downtown. Am mulling over Gotham and Annissa (have never been to either place). Would love your recommendations!

About us:

1) We love foie gras!
2) We love nice-looking places, but not rooms that are TOO LOUD.
3) It would be great if getting reservations is not too much of a hassle.

Thank you!

Help! Is CAFE STELLA the best choice for a laid-back French bistro?

Thanks, Jack! I have to confess that I'm a Foie Gras Fanatic... but I'm more into the seared foie than terrine. Do you happen to know if they charge a corkage? Oh, and what else do you like there?

Help! Is CAFE STELLA the best choice for a laid-back French bistro?

I could kick myself for not trying ANISETTE in Santa Monica when it was still open!

Looking for quality French in a relaxed setting, and Cafe Stella seems to fit the bill for a nice birthday dinner.

Just wanted to consult with my fellow Chowhounders in case I was overlooking other places.

I like that Stella has an outdoor patio (big plus).

Thanks in advance for any other suggestions!
