In DC for one night- DuPont Circle, need a great cocktail and small plates!

I'll be staying in DC on business in the next 2 weeks and would love nothing more than to sit outside someplace and have an amazing cocktail and some small bites. Please give me some stellar recs.

Pinang - So Disappointed

After raving about Pinang and their excellent food, I went there for dinner on Friday expecting more of the same and to leave impressed. I certainly did not. The waitress was slow, rude and unaccomodating to regular requests ( for example, may we have an extra wine glass?). This was an outing for my monthly girls night where we try to have or make various types of cuisine. None of the other diners had eaten there before and this was not a good impression.

The food arrived at scattered intervals, appetizers, soups, entrees in a blur. Some were just starting their appetizers while I was enjoying some pineapple fried rice. Until, oh wait, what's that? Glass. Yes, shards, of glass in my rice. I found five about the size of peas after biting down on two of them. I was totally repulsed. Stopped eating immediately and alerted the "awesome" server. She apologized and then tried to charge me for the rice. Needless to say, I did not pay and left promptly after.

I am so disappointed that this is the impression I and my friends will forever have of Pinang.

Corndogs in DE?

Learned today that my sister in law has never had a corndog. Not a cardinal sin to me or my family as far as food goes, but we decided if she has gone 29 years without one that the first need be exceptional. Any suggestions for a good ol' corndog?

Thai Food--Soybean or Panang?

I agree that Pinang would be a better choice. I love their shrimp puffs as an appetizer. I have had a variety of things on the menu for entrees including their sushi and am usually quite pleased with the food. The setting is more intimate than Soybean. I also like Tasty Thai in New Castle but not for this occasion, for a casual lunch it would be good.

fish restaurant

Heading to Fish for dinner. Any must have dishes? It looks like the skate gets excellent reviews. Also, I saw that they have special wine dinners and events but their website doesn't list any thing upcoming. Anyone know of an inside scoop on that info?

Nephew attends U of D. Anything near campus chow worthy?

I agree with travelmad on the suggestions for you. I also like Sinclairs Cafe on Main Street for a good breakfast. They usually have specials too. Driving into Wilmington would be your best bet for a good dinner and isn't a hassle at all to do.

Recommendations around Smith Mountain Lake State Park? Roanoke? Blue Ridge, VA?

My uncle lives on SML and a place that I always love visiting is the Dudley Mart. It's a great place for breakfast that is in a renovated old school. It's pretty cool.

Vinoteca 902 or Domaine Hudson?

This is a good question and we just talked about it a few weeks ago. Search Domaine Hudson in the Mid-Atlantic for some good chatter. I haven't eaten at Vinoteca so, Domaine is my choice. There wine list is incredible. Also, after dinner drinks I like Chelsea Taverns' Market St mojito.

Indian Restaurants near Bethany Beach?

I'll start by saying that you are a woman after my own heart, I love Indian food. That being said, I think your choices are more than slim in the beach area. I have tons of luck with Aarti Sequeria's recipes from her show Aarti Party. She does a fusion of Indian and more accessible ingredients and I have loved everything I've made.

I have good luck at Williams and Sonoma. They make some jarred sauces ( tikka masala, etc.) that taste very good. I was surprised by the quality. I also buy grocery store naan and brush with olive oil and grill. I hope that these suggestions help you.

If you ever wind up in the Wilmington area there is a hole in the wall Indian place called India Palace on Maryland Avenue that is excellent. I rant and rave about it all the time on CH.

Rascal's, New Castle DE

I went there about 10 years ago, my grandparents live in New Castle and this place is located right next to one of my favorite greasy spoon guilty pleasures, The Dog House. Rascal's is everything they mentioned, smelly, gross and producing a poor product. I will admit though, I am intriuged to see if they have changed.

I don't think bluehens meant that if a CH ate there that it would be good, just that it seemed like no-one wanted to eat there in that condition and that's why it would qualify.

Valentine's Weekend Dinner Near University of Delaware?

Domaine is perfect for young couples. The vibe there seems like it would suit you well. I am 27 and felt totally comfortable there in a casual dress. My guy loves to sport slacks ties when we dine and he fit right in. Also, it's in downtown Wilmington with hip after dinner drink options. The Chelsea Tavern would be a great spot to get a good cocktail after your meal.

Or Vintoteca 902 is a good dinner option, I haven't eaten there myself but it gets great reviews on CH. It's also in downtown Wilmington and is upscale.

Valentine's Weekend Dinner Near University of Delaware?

My favorite for a romantic dinner selection would be Domaine Hudson. It is a dressier establishment with an incredible wine list. This will be a 25-30 min drive and at the higher end of a price range. The lights are dim and the ceilings are low, its defintely a good spot to get close. I would recommend making reservations.

Romantic Dinner in DE/PA?

The dinner at Harvest was exactly what I was looking for, and pleasantly surprised that a place in a strip mall can pack such a punch. The food was fresh, local and delicious as they advertise. My date really enjoyed his cocktail with ginger bourbon and I treated myself to a wine flight (or two! ). The service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients.

After dinner we stopped at Sullivan's for a lovely cocktail with their house infused pineapple vodka. The drink is called a knockout and I really enjoyed it. Then, as if we needed more to drink, we went to Chelsea Tavern and had Market Street mojitos. They make them with basil instead of mint and use turbinado sugar. These were magical. I should probably stay away from them. All in all it was a great night with excellent food and cocktails.

Romantic Dinner in DE/PA?

You're totally on track, I live in downtown Wilmington. And, I missed the open table coupon for Harvest! Chelsea Tavern for post dinner drinks it is. I am not a beer drinker, but my date certainly is. Any cocktail suggestions for me?

Romantic Dinner in DE/PA?

Thanks for all the great suggestions. My date has taken the reins and surprised me with reservations at Harvest but, I am curious if Vintoteca would be a good option for drinks after dinner? I have also heard good things about Chelsea Tavern.

Romantic Dinner in DE/PA?

I just went to Domaine Hudson last week! The wine and beer list is always impressive, as are the cheese and charcuterie plates. The shirred egg was underseasoned, but it does have the dark, brooding ambiance I'm looking for.

Romantic Dinner in DE/PA?

I am looking for an interesting option for a romantic dinner this Friday. I have heard good things about Harvest and Masamoto. I am open to all types of food, I am also concerned with the atmosphere. I would really like romance but not in a cheesy way. I'd like to stay out of Philly for this. Thoughts?

"American" Food Restaurant Rec- DE

My mom isn't an adventurous eater at all. I am looking for a good "American" place to send my parents for a nice meal. My father loves anything and everything, so a place that would have something slightly out of the norm for him too would be great. Any suggestions?
