good food around midland/sheppard In no particular order Dragon Dynasty for dim sum (Brimley and Huntingwood) - the push cart type. I'm not sure how veg friendly they are....but the vast majority of Chinese restaurants will have a tofu option. It just might not be veg ok for dim sum. Food court at Sheppard and Glen Watford mall - we always go to Silver Fountain so I don't know what the other stalls are like. Cheap and lots of food! The Roti Hut at McCowan and Pittfield - roti's are good. I am not overly fond of the doubles. Be forewarned I think the sodium content is high.....always thirsty after. Calabria Bakery on Midland south of Ellesmere - I only get the pizza so don't know what the rest of the food is like. Pizza's are only available Thursday and Friday. Can be cooked a little uneven because it's a wood oven but tastes oh so good! Ni-Ji - good if you're craving sushi and not too fussy about it....I'd rate them around 6/10.....or 3 star...... Midland and Ellesmere. Wanton Chai - wanton mein....in a strip mall around Brimley and Sheppard. The wantons are massive....which can be a plus or minus......also serve other noodle in broth varieties and you can order side plates of veg. Not veg friendly if you don't eat seafood. There is an Asian Legend branch around Brimley and Sheppard. A previous discussion on Scarborough gems if you can go further afield. Hope that helps! |

1. Beets - taste like dirt! Ich! |

Try a spot that serves dim sum. As far as I know Mississauga doesn't have any restaurants that specialize in dumplings (like Mother's Dumplings). You can also buy frozen from the grocery store if you're really jonesing and need a quick fix. |

Pho 88 has a location in Chinatown at 270 Spadina Ave. I haven't been so I don't know if the menu is the same..... |

Where to buy Norwegian Salted Cod (for Bacalhau)? I bought some salted cod at Costco around Christmas but I'm not sure if it is a regular item. Big piece, probably about 1/2 of the fish and boneless. |

Not sure if this would help you. There is a wagjag deal on for cooking classes at the moment. I have not tried this company so I don't know how good they are either. |

I had the poutine. The cheese curds tasted like they came out of the fridge.....an effect of the stand being outdoors in winter more than likely.... Also overpriced IMO. |

I think the highlight would have been in a store called Crescendo. They sell flavour infused oils and vinegars. You can try before you buy and mix in any combination that you like. They also have spices that you can add to the mix. The sample on the table with crackers for dipping was very flavourful. If you're there, definitely give them a try. I found an article about it. |

I went to the Christmas Market down at the Distillery District tonight and there was a stall called "Bacon Candy". Since I'd bought food at just about every food stand I'd walked past, I decided to wait and come back but by the time I did, they were closed!!!! T_T Has anyone tried anything from them? Is the chocolate bacon any good? What about the bacon bark? |

Northern Chinese Food - Great NEW find in Richmond Hill! I was there about a month ago.....still delish. I've been going off and on since I discovered this thread and they're pretty consistent. Had the spicy cold pork, green onion pancake and an order of the fennel and pork dumplings. I broke my rule of no eating in the car and scarfed down the green onion pancake....nice and crispy outside, flaky and that sort of sweet flavour of cooked green onions....just couldn't wait till I got home. I've liked the lamb dumplings in the past. |

Cantonese Cuisine Chowmeet at Maple Yip - Great food and Great Company!! Great job on organizing and menu selection Charles! I really enjoyed the pork belly! And beef tenderloin with cashew. Delish! I had a wonderful time. |

I prefer chicken.....turkey is not my thing.....has a weird taste to it. If I must eat turkey, it's covered with cranberry sauce. Or as my friends would ask, "would you like some turkey with your cranberry sauce?" |

Any thoughts on Cactus Club Cafe's planned expansion into Toronto? Located at 100 King Street W and opening next year. I've never been to Vancouver so I'm curious what people think of it.....has Rob Feenie's name attached to it..... Thanks, |

After reading this thread, I don't think the groupon deal, $69 for a 5 course tasting menu for 2, is worth it. But if anyone's interested, there's 2 days left on the timer. |

There was an article in The Star recently and it says they're hoping to open within the month. |

Thanks, I was wondering about the Mississauga location. Ate there a couple weekends ago, and while acceptable I wasn't convinced the food was the same as what's discussed on this board. The place is also not busy....maybe because they just relocated from Oakville? |

I'm just wondering, are all the Sukothai's owned by the same person/group? |

I ate at the David Duncan House about a year ago. It's edible but I wouldn't give it rave reviews.....2 1/2 to 3 out of 5. The menu seems stuck in the 90's.....and the atmosphere is a bit dark for my taste. ----- |

I have a jar of capers. Now what? Depending on how much work you want to do, I'm fond of Trinidadian pastelles. Living in North America, I sub aluminium foil for the banana (fig) leaves.... |

Live West Coast Spotted Prawns - Super Special Price this week end!! Thanks Charles for the tip on these prawns. I got some at the T&T Mississauga location this afternoon. There weren't that many left. Did hot pot (Da Bean Lou) with them. Delish! =) |

There is a deal on wagjag for a wine tour which expires in 5 days. Identical one is on groupon also but it ends tonight at midnight. I don't have any experience with this company so I don't know how good it is but it sounds like a pretty good deal. |

Vegetarians craving bacon/pork? Nutritional explanation? Definitely anecdotal. When I was training for a triathlon and doing 3-4 hours of cardio every day, all I could think of was getting my fingers moist and dipping it into the jar of salt and then licking off the salt. The other thing I did was make a hard boil egg, cover it with salt from the salt shaker and lick it off.....if salt wasn't so readily available I probably would've been at the salt lick with the deer! Now that I'm not doing all that sweating (I work out alot less now), I don't have the same salt cravings. So, I have to go with the "my body tells me what I need" theory. |

My go to meals when I have to stretch my food budget (and not already mentioned by others, sorry if I repeated accidentally) includes I'm making a soup with Chinese Okra, knackwurst sausage and elbow macaroni for dinner..... the most expensive thing was the vegetable.....sigh. |
|
|
That is sooooo cool! I WANT!!!! By the way, you can also turn any soup into sontaran clone food with a little food colouring. I only know episodes from the ninth doctor on...... |
|

Not sure how well this would work but you might be able to do a pandorica meatloaf? Easily shapes into a cube and decorate. This probably needs an adult version remake...I saw a recipe for mac and cheese with a hotdog cut into 1/8 halfway up its length to make an octopus shape in a cooking for kids book.....prisoner zero mac and cheese? And depending on how much you want to spend, the vampires of Venice remind me of lobsters/crayfish.....also messy for sitting on a couch in front of the TV..... |

Nguyen Huong has an outlet at 3255 Rutherford Rd. Building M#45 |

The Butcher Shoppe - What do you buy there? I think I know why it isn't listed.....the one I go to spells Shoppe differently......The Butcher Shop vs The Butcher Shoppe......oiy! Did a quick search..... |
|

The Butcher Shoppe - What do you buy there? It's at Markham Road and Kingston. I drive south on Markham Road and the plaza is on the right just past the lights. There's also a Popeyes and Shoppers Drug Mart in the plaza. |
