Anyone been to Dino's wood fired pizza?

After reading so much about this place we tried it tonight. Unfortunately we were not all that impressed. The toppings are limited to traditional ones, no eggplant, goats cheese, broccoli, sun dried tomatoes. The crust was nice around the edges but soggy in the middle and he forgot to put our requested green peppers on it. The place is small, looks clean and has a few tables with plastic tablecloths on them. i think the majority of his business is take-out. He seems like an okay guy and probably just wants to stick to the basics and if that's what you like then it's way better than all the pizza chains.

Prairie Ink restaurant at new McNally Robinson bookstore?

We stopped in for dessert at Prairie Ink on thursday after a disastrous lunch over at Linda's Thai food in the same area and we were so pleased with what we got. We sat out on their terrace with a lovely view and we are definitely planning to go back for lunch soon. I think that they may well have improved since they opened because the food that was being served to the other diners looked lovely. Maybe you should all give it another chance.

Lein's Deli - closed!

Ya, we saw that sign too. But for such an old and popular business to suddenly not pay taxes or rent, it's all kind of weird. My Dad and his friends also loved their meats, sausages, ect. and will miss them.

Lein's Deli - closed!

Just drove by Lein's deli on Lakeshore in Long Branch and was very surprised to see that they are gone. Does anyone know if they moved or just went out of business.

IKEA

I was at Ikea this week and was shocked to find individually packed Sara Lee muffins there. When I mentioned it to one of the staff they told me that it's all about costs and and offering low prices means find the cheapest suppliers. No more fresh baked goodies, not even those tasty Swedish almond tarts are offered in the cafeteria even though I would be willing to pay more in order to sit and enjoy one with a coffee break from shopping. Their coffee has also gone downhill. Oh how I yearn for the espresso bar days!

Casually upscale in Mississauga

Thyme restaurant on the Lakeshore in East Port Credit has a nice atmosphere and pretty decent pastas, risottos and pizzas. Another favourite of ours is the Apricot Tree Cafe in Sherwood Village Plaza on Dundas west of Mississauga Rd. A bit more casual but the food is usually delicious.

Il Fornello Richmond Hill - Brief Review

We recently had a great experience at Il Fornello's Richmond Hill location. It was mid-July and they had just introduced a 3 course menu for the summer that was delicious. Then we went to the Oakville location about 2 weeks ago and were so disappointed. The food was bland and boring and the menu was quite limited. It seems like the Il Fornello restaurants no longer have a standard so your experience will likely depend on which location you're at.

Price Differences - 3 Micheline Stars in France, New York and Bruges

The 3 star restaurants outside of Paris are much more reasonable and just as good. In fact we enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Auberge De L'ill which is in a quaint quiet village near Colmar. Our bill came to 435 Euros for the 4 of us. We had ordered from their set menu which was 96 euros each.
Mind you that converted into over $700 CAD.

Gourmet Dining in Kingston Ontario

Well that depends on what kind of pizza you like. Our experience at Woodenheads was right up our alley as far as pizza goes. And Kingston is a lot closer than NYC.

whats the best lunch in Muskoka area

We stopped at the new Rawley Resort in Port Severn for lunch. The dining room is lovely and has large windows and a patio facing the water. The small lunch menu sounded great but unfortunately only the fish and chips were good. The angel hair pasta was so overcooked that one could mash it with a fork and most of the listed veggies were missing. The salad was drenched in too much dressing. The smoked salmon sandwich was just okay. The place has potential and we hope that it's just due to start up issues like not enough staff. We'll probably try it once more because it is such a nice place to stop.

Salba

Of course Chia is a lot cheaper than Salba. I think they have some kind of patent on Salba because they bred a plant that only produces white seeds. Chia is predominantly black with some white seeds and has all the same benefits. It's an ancient seed that the Salba people are trying to market as some new discovery. Buy Chia.

Buffalo, New York

Thanks shifty. We didn't make it to Le metro last time but I will definitely try it next time I'm in Buffalo. We ended up having lunch in the restaurant at the Art Gallery. Modern space looking out to a courtyard and we enjoyed a great sandwich and I think that their delicious bread came from Le Metro. Service was a bit slow.

New discoveries in Berlin?

we just spent 5 fabulous days in Berlin. Loved our meal at Oxymoron (in a historical courtyard in the Hackisher Tor area) and the the pizza in the 12 Apostles was delicious and a very generous size. If I have more time I´´ll think of some other places but my time is running out at this internet cafe.

West end restaurant - special dinner

3 years later... just got back from Sempre and not impressed. We had made reservations and just as we walked in, a nice table at the window became available but my husband was told rather harshly that we could not sit there. We were promptly ushered to a booth in the back, right beside the open kitchen. Okay so now about the food. My one son quite enjoyed his Caesar's salad but the two pizza's that we ordered were disappointing. Both pizzas were loaded with cheese. One had dry artichokes, a few buried slivers of hard sun-dried tomatoes, and canned tasteless pizza olives. the vegetarian pizza had all the right ingredients on it but not with the right balance. Both were very bland and boring. Even adding salt didn't help.
Isn't there anywhere in the Toronto area where you can get gourmet pizza??? (ie. Woodenhead's in Kingston - yum)

Buffalo, New York

Thanks for the suggestion. I love seafood, sushi and asian but I'm not sure that everyone in our group does. The ceviche sounds yummy.
Any other suggestions? And is Le Metro any good?

Buffalo, New York

Can't find a way to search on the Buffalo rising website. A group of us are heading down to the Amherst area for a girls night out soon and are looking for a well prepared meal, not deep fried or gigantic portions or things like burgers and wings. I passed Le Metro bakery cafe in Williamsville the last time we were there and it looks like our kind of place. Has anyone eaten there? We always end up in Carraba's because the food is okay (just way too much) and the staff is very friendly but we would like to try somewhere else. One of us has a gluten allergy too. Any suggestions?

Good casual dining in Southwest Mississauga?

How about Bistro Matisse in the plaza east of the Royal bank in Clarkson? They have a mid week prix fix menu and their regular menu is also good. That's one of our regular spots. It's small, cozy and the food is usually very good.

Gourmet Dining in Kingston Ontario

Called Chien Noir and they could not accommodate the 5 of us on a Sat. night but it turned out that the big storm changed our plans at the last minute. So we went to Woodenheads for Sun. lunch and boy were we impressed with the pizzas! the dough was thin & crisp on the outside but still soft & chewy and the choice of toppings were amazing. The Nonna Mela sounded strange with apple butter, cheddar garlic onions but even my fussy 13 year old loved it. It may be the best gourmet pizza in Ontario.
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'm sure they will help other chowhounders. Chien Noir and Lukes will be on our list the next time we're in Kingston.

Gourmet Dining in Kingston Ontario

I found Chien Noir's website and their menu has some great choices so that's a definite maybe. Intersting story about Luke's. I think he is 17 now.

Gourmet Dining in Kingston Ontario

Wow. Took a look at the website and Luke's does look very impressive!

Gourmet Dining in Kingston Ontario

We love thin crust pizza and it seems that Woodenheads has been recommended on other posts

Gourmet Dining in Kingston Ontario

Overnighting in Kingston soon and wondering where to go for a delicious dinner and breakfast. We know about Chez Piggy (mixed reviews), have been to Atomica for (salty) pizza about 2 years ago and Luigis has been recommended to us by some friends.
Anyone know how the above places are these days or have some other interesting suggestions? International, French, eclectic, funky, as long as the food is tasty!

Mont Tremblant Eats

There are some great local places in the St. Jovite area a few miles away from the Intrawest village of Mt. Tremblant. Also check out this link for a great listing of area restaurants.http://rvmt.com/restaurant_list.html

Headcheese in North York area

Lein's Deli, 3262 Lakeshore Blvd. W...not in North York but very tasty headcheese

Liverwurst: any real stuff left, and where?

My very German Dad comes all the way from Hamilton to Lein's Deli, 3262 Lakeshore Blvd. W. Very authentic wurst made there in small batches...very fresh. Not near the subway but a streetcar runs past it.

German Restaurant

Of course there is the ever popular Schwarzwaldhaus aka Black Forest Inn in Hamilton if you feel like driving for an hour or so. Lots of Schnitzel choices but other things too. Zum Linzer is also in Hamilton see http://www.thestar.com/living/article/269633 for more info.Back to T.O... in the Long Branch area Lein's Deli, 3262 Lakeshore Blvd. W has a variety of hot food for either take out or eat in that is very popular at lunch time. Basic decor but the foo is good.

Jamaican Food

We stopped for lunch at Allspice Bakery Cafe this Monday for the first time. It's a great find in Mississauga at 3115 Winston Churchill Blvd, just north of Dundas. It looks like it used to be an old donut shop but now it serves quite a variety of Carribean food. I loved the rice & peas with curried chickpeas that I had. Very fresh and tasty. The other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked just as good. Very reasonable prices too.

Stage West Dinner Theatre

Thanks for the informative reply. It sounds like there's hope for some kind of edible dinner for us. We'll just have to drink lots of wine!

Lunch in Burlington, Kitchener, etc. weekdays and Sundays

Hurontario & QEW
take out lunch in Port Credit - great homemade pizza with unique toppings ready to go slices @ La Villa Bakery on Lakeshore Rd. east of #10 and Gourmet on the Go across the street has interesting food. In the village Marish Boulangerie serves lunch, Rabba has a lunch counter with some pretty good middle eastern choices, Souvlaki Hut is opening soon and then just around the corner north on Stavebank is Burrito Boys - very tasty. All of these are quick options, mainly for take out - not sit and dine.

Stage West Dinner Theatre

I was wondering how your evening went because we'll be there next Wednesday? How was the buffet? Could you find anything decent to eat? They certainly charge enough for the dinner/theatre so why do they get away with such mediocre food? Are most of their clientele large bus groups? Anyways, our friends arranged this evening so we have no choice but to grin and bear it. At the very least, I hope that you enjoyed the show. Please let me know.
