Charlie Trotters 20th Anniversary Dinner Sunday Night

I know Alice Waters is not going to be there. I just saw her speak at Borders on Mich. Avenue. There were only about 20 people there. I was surprised, she seemed surprised also but was really gracious about answering everyone's questions before signing her new cookbook. Anyway, she said she was invited but can't go.

Mandatory tip at Alhambra Palace?

Agreed - I should have said something last night. I guess this is more of a warning.

Mandatory tip at Alhambra Palace?

Hi:

Went to Alhambra Palace last night with some friends. There were four of us total and I was surprised to see a 20 percent gratuity added into our bill. I know many restaurants do this for larger groups but I've never seen this for just four people. The huge restaurant was barely full so maybe they're just that desperate? Just looking for your thoughts on this...

PS - Skip Alhambra Palace for the food. Save your money and go to Noon-o-Kabab or Semiramis on Kedzie.

Foodie bookclubs?

Hi:

I'm a reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times seeking book clubs with a heavy emphasis on food, maybe more so than the books. If your book club incorporates food into your night in a unique way, has been torn apart by food issues, has transitioned into a dining club from a book club or has in some other creative way combined books and food, please tell me all about it.

Thanks,
Kara Spak
