Pesach HOTELS 2012
We were at kibbutz lavi in Israel's northern region and loved it. It was our first Pesach hotel experience so I don't have anything to compare it to but I was really happy. The food was amazing and plentiful and the dining room didn't feel crowded at all. There were a shiur or two a day, in english and hebrew, but I didn't get to any because I was with my three littles, 6 months, 2 and 4. The pool and kids' pool were great, beautiful parks and grounds, lots to see and do in the area. We want to go back next year IYH.
Oh those Israeli breakfasts! We didn't miss bread at all.
israeli restaurant with fresh lafa and salads IN jerusalem WITH good hechsher! anyone?
Mervad Haksamim is my favorite. On Emek Refaim and on King George St. near the hotels.
Chicago Closings
not according to me.
i enjoyed chocolate shoppe. the owner is super friendly and nice.
i'm surprised about malibu.
Best frozen lunch main course last day of a 3-day chag
Do deli meats, salads like egg salad and cucumber salad, chopped liver with good rye bread. I like a green salad with chopped leftover chicken for shabbos lunch.
Super hot white horseradish
We had the same experience - Extra is stronger than Triple, though we didn't taste them side by side.
Date syrup - How do Sephardi cooks use this?
I use it instead of honey or brown sugar to make granola. Sticky-sweet and delicious!
New Ice Cream Shop In Skokie
Sadly they don't have soft-serve but I thought it was very good too. They even have some parve sorbet options.
found OU-D tootsie pops
OK I found them at Walgreens in Skokie. Some bags in the pile on the shelf have the OUD and some don't, so buyer beware!
New Ice Cream Shop In Skokie
I'm hoping to try this tomorrow; has anyone been? What is good? Do they have soft-serve?
Kosher Marshmellows- "Regular" National Brands- The Final Kosher Frontier??
Paskesz is the best by far!

cooking kosher asian-style food?
According to the CRC:
Rice noodles and rice paper wrappers with ingredients of only rice and water are permissible without a hechsher
I can't figure out how to link a tweet but it's posted on their twitter account (CRCKosher) on march 23.
EJ's pizzeria in Skokie
we got pizza takeout and zucchini soup for lunch today. Fantastic. Might be the best kosher pizza I ever had. Certainly the best in Chicago. I'm glad they'll be open motzei shabbos. And I'm having a lunch date there tomorrow!
Chorizo...any Kosher substitute?
We like this too, but I think you can only get it in Chicago.
Kosher holiday finds at Trader Joe's
I wish they had the peppermint gourmet marshmellows (e.g. homemade and handcut, not the commercial kind) that they had three years ago. Oh how I miss good marshmellows!
Pareve Cornbread
I make the one from the kosherblog blog, but I put the egg back in instead of using the flaxseed gumminess.
Mehadrin/Glatt Suggestions for Jerusalem/Bnei Brak/Dead Sea/Eilat, etc.
We're spending the year in J-lem and our best meal has been at Ahavat Ha-yam, a set-menu fish place in or near Nachlaot. They bring you lots of delicious salads, garlic pita, bottomless juice, and a fresh, filleted grilled fish of your choice. Get the trout!
Also, grapefruit-arak sorbet at Aldo. (There are branches on Emek Refaim and at the Tachaneh Merkazit, among others).
Enjoy and be sure to post what you ate and enjoyed!
Mike's Bistro: Chef's Tasting Report
Thanks for posting and letting us live vicariously through you. It sounds amazing!
Perlstein Resort Reviews?
It was vast majority families, but there were 2 or 3 couples w/o children. I think it would be so lovely and relaxing w/o children. The dining room scene is a little nuts w/ all the crying and running around.
From what I'm hearing from friends, some weeks the food is better, depending on the "tier" paid for...and our weekend was very cheap.
Perlstein Resort Reviews?
Well, in the public interest, here is my report: the food was awful, but we had a fabulous time.
Most of it was industrial, powdered, or frozen. Or otherwise bad. Exceptions were the cholent, which was packed with meat and kishka, not dry or burnt, with good flavor and enough salt. They also served an excellent sweet cheesy noodle kugel Sat. night.
But the place is gorgeous, rooms are very nice (love the water pressure!), many of our friends came, and our toddler had a blast, as did we. This particular weekend was not real "scheduled" with activities or babysitting, and we liked it that way.
Shallots Bistro in Skokie, IL
I follow them on Twitter - @Shallots - and they tweet about the sushi nights, they give away free sushi, and post pics of the rolls. They have had Copper River Salmon nigiri sushi the last couple weeks!
Baby keeps us in most nights, but I can dream...

Thanks,

Yep I've gotta agree with all that. Esp. the Miami part!
Kosher Restaurants in Chicago...
Taboun Grill is generally thought of as the best kosher restaurant in Chicago, in terms of value and consistency. (Certainly not the fanciest; Shallots wins there)
It is Israeli style and meat.
There's one on the north side of the city (West Rogers Park) and one in Skokie.
The yemenite soup is delicious.
Taboun Grill now open in Skokie, IL
As long as Morrocan fish is there, I'm happy.
Love that dish!
Brooklyn Kosher Food Field Trip - Need Advice
Wow, I'm jealous! Thanks for reporting back.
Great rye bread in Chicago?
We like Today's Temptations, which we buy at Oakton Market. I have their rye bread at home now; it's very sour - in a good way!
Kosher-style replacement for oyster sauce?
At $15 plus shipping for a bottle that expires in March - I don't want it that badly.
