Saute in 1 cup vegetable oil 1.5 tablespoons garlic powder, 1.5 tablespoons crushed red pepper and 2 medium onions chopped until the onions are soft, add the 3 cans tomato soup and 28 oz (large can) tomato puree, stir and simmer for 1.5 hours, refrigerate overnight.

Looking for some things unique to New York

This isn't city related. When I was stationed upstate at Griffiss AFB there was a shop that made "turkey joints" and they are excellent. I have them delivered during the holidays and everyone loves them. http://www.turkeyjoints.com/catalog/

LorenV, Come to think of it, I never associated Millers with the Windmill..being young at the time. I can recall some of the ads now. The Millers were on the corner next to Salerno's if I remember. Got any Danny's/Cricket's sauce ideas? I also think about Pleasure Beach and the Harbor Hut, brought many shiners, bunker and greasy burgers/fries to fuel my quest for the "Big One" off the pier and jettys.

Shreveport-Bodacious

No, It is not affiliated with the Texas chain. I worked there part time for nine years and had to inform the uninformed of it. Also, the resturant is in Bossier City at 4706 Barksdale Blvd. Tell them John said hi..(I know the post is from 2005)

Emilymary, I was on leave from the Air Force and went home to Bridgeport to visit family. Hit the local hot spots (The Greeks, Salerno's Apizza, The Windmill..etc) and was devastated to find Cricket's out of business! I am now retired and have tried to find thier receipe and technique on line but no luck. There has to be a former employee/manager out there! Please! For the sake of humanity..sanity..memory..good'ole days
