Delicious and welcoming!

Angelica's in Sea Bright is a favorite of ours, too. We always have pleasant, friendly service and the food is delicious! We've been to a lot of places and I'll think about our favorites and post them. I don't go on this site all that often (as you can see) but I like to share good places when I find them! Monticello's in Red Bank is also very delicious and has very good service. These are both bring your own places, btw. The Harborside in Atlantic Highlands is a nice, casual dining place. We go there quite often and order the burgers and they have a feta and blueberry salad that I dream about! Grimaldi's Pizza in Highlands is nice if you're looking for good pizza and a casual night out. We used to go to Ama in Atlantic Highlands until the owner was just plain rude to us a couple of times (note: we were NOT rude or disruptive in any way, she's just surly) and now we won't go there!

Delicious and welcoming!

I am one of a group of 5-6 women who like to meet and eat out once or twice a month. We decided to try Via 45 a couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday night and it was wonderful! The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. The host was charming and very helpful when it came to order a bottle of wine from a nearby liquor store.

I never order pork chops out, but Via 45 had a pork chop special that I decided to try and it was so delicious I could have licked my plate, if it wasn't frowned upon in polite company! It was lightly breaded and came with a salad on top of it. A very generous portion, but I ate it all!

The service was very good, but it did take a bit for our food to arrive. I assume this is because it is cooked to order. It didn't matter, we had wine and conversation and was a lovely time.

Everyone was polite and welcoming and the food was delicious. It was a Tuesday night and they were packed!

I would definitely recommend this restaurant and my friends and I decided to make it one of our "regulars"!

Angelicas in Sea Bright- New Feelings

I have been to Angelica's several times this year and have loved it every single time! I guess I must have missed Frank, but I felt very at home and comfortable there. The service was amazing and friendly, and the food came out quickly, piping hot and delicious! This was on a night when it was packed and I was sure we'd have a wait for our food. I've had several different dishes there and really loved every one. It's my new favorite place! The servers and the hostess are unfailingly pleasant and polite and they really make you feel welcome. They do not rush you out the door when you're finished. Other restaurants in this area could learn a little something about customer service from this restaurant! Someone else mentioned Bay Avenue Trattoria and I agree they have great food and service, but I find it lacking in any type of atmosphere. which is important to me. If I'm going to spend a good deal of money eating out, then I like to enjoy the atmosphere as well as the food. Don't get me wrong, I certainly won't turn down a meal at the Bay Avenue Trattoria, but I do wish they would give it a little personality.

Ama Restaurant - Atlantic Highlands, NJ

Also, they used to take credit cards. Even if we had been there before, this was an honest mistake and there was no need for rudeness. Every time we walk by this restaurant, my husband says "Never again!"

Flakey Tart - Atlantic Highlands.

Yes, I'm aware of the differences, having lived in France for several months. However, we're in Atlantic Highlands and they could bend the rules....just a little, n'est-ce pas? I adore everything they make and it wasn't a criticism at all, just a longing for the pain charleston that I developed a taste for those many years ago....!

Ama Restaurant - Atlantic Highlands, NJ

I agree that the service is part of the entire dining experience. Many restaurants have food as good, or better, than Ama but have much better service. I have gone there several times and have had terrible service from waiters with attitude and very good service from different waiters. Sometimes the food is amazing, other times not so much. In fact, the first time my husband and I went there my scallops were raw inside and he claimed his food was just so-so and won't go back. The one constant has been the surliness of the owner and I have no explanation for this. Never have I, or the people I have been dining with, been rude or behaved poorly. I have said hello to her and been completely ignored. She has never once said thank you for coming, please come again. She slapped the credit card down and said, "I don't take credit cards" , not "I'm sorry we don't accept credit cards but we do have a cash machine in the corner." The gentleman who was paying hadn't been to Ama before and had slipped his credit card to the waitress without consulting us prior to doing so. And, yes, she slapped it down. Personally, I find this behavior rude and have chosen not to return there. If it doesn't bother you, or if perhaps you are one of the people she isn't rude to, then by all means return. I will not and will counsel others to go somewhere where they are treated with respect. There are many, many restaurants in this area with equally good food but much better attitude.

Ama Restaurant - Atlantic Highlands, NJ

Yes, she is very rude. I think some of the items on the menu are delicious and others are so-so. But, that's not the problem. The owner is down right rude and I will not return because of that. I tried it again after my last review to see if perhaps I was imagining it. Nope. She seems to forget that if people don't come to your restaurant, you go out of business. Eating out should be a pleasurable experience, not one where the owner slaps credit cards down on your table and refuses to serve you dessert because they have another reservation coming in in ten minutes. There wasn't even any alcohol involved! So, I predict this one will not last. She's had a pretty good crowd this summer, but when word gets around about her rudeness, people will stop coming. I know my friends and I will not go there anymore. Too bad, because it could be a nice place.

Anyone tried Copper Canyon in Atlantic Highlands lately?

Well, maybe I'll try it again. Their steak and scallops are really good, but I really don't want to be rushed out again! My friend often goes there for lunch and she says they're more relaxed then. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I own the table for the night, but I think pushing your customers out so you can squeeze in as many table as possible in a night is just rude. Not to mention, there are ways to do things and say things and they just haven't learned (or hadn't the last time I went there which was 3 years ago) how to do it properly. So, if you say they're improving in the customer service department, I'll try them again.

Kunya Siam - New Thai restaurant in Atlantic Highlands

I've been there a few times now and their service is excellent and their food is consistently great! I had a chicken dish and a special spring roll appetizer and they were delicious and piping hot. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Review of Ama, Atlantic Highlands

I agree with you about the owner's attitude. We are a group of women who like to go out quite often and we like the food at AMA but haven't gone there very much because we can't get past the owner's unhappy attitude. We had a waiter one night that acted like he was doing us an enormous favor by being there. So, we started to deduct a dollar from his tip every time he was rude or smarmy. I think he realized when we kept saying, "minus 1, minus 2" and then became VERY nice. We just returned there after quite a while and we had a new waiter who was excellent. The food is good, but the owner was still not very nice. She does know that we're paying her, not the other way around, right?

Anyone tried Copper Canyon in Atlantic Highlands lately?

I wrote this review previously, but I'm not sure what happened to it! So, I'll write it again. I would NOT bother going to this restaurant. Yes, their food can be good, but not so good that it excuses their rude behavior. Twice when I was there with friends, after an hour, hour and a half, the server rudely stated that we had to leave because they needed the table! The second time was right after we ordered a round of drinks (and there were several of us) and the server placed his hands IN the glasses to take them in order to hurry us out! I am not the only one to have had this experience; a friend of mine went to the ladies" room and when she came back an entirely different party was seated at her table! She had to ask them for her handbag which she had left under the table! I will not go back there until they learn to value their customers.

Flakey Tart - Atlantic Highlands.

Yes, the Flaky Tart is wonderful and certainly deserves 5 stars. Their pastries are incomparable and the service is friendly and quick. My only request would be for some delicious crusty baguettes for the mornings that I don't feel like eating something so sweet. Don't forget their delicious coffee as well.
